“Well?” Sara prompted, not bothering to hide her eagerness for gossip. “How cozy was our Alpha with his future Luna?”
My fingers clenched around the empty tray. “I wouldn't know. I simply served breakfast.”
“Come on, Amelia.” Ruby snickered. “ You must have noticed something. Was she sitting on his lap yet?”
The image sent a shard of pain through my chest, but I kept my expression neutral.
“She was a guest, and she behaved as such. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have linens to change.”
I set the tray down with more force than necessary and hurried from the kitchen, ignoring Jade’s concerned glance.
I needed air, space to breathe without the suffocating weight of others’ expectations and my own forbidden feelings.
