Maggie was standing right in front of the building when Mr jones pulled over. Sayre c****d her head, assessing her from head to toe. She looked upbeat as usual, with a file in her hand.
She rushed to wards the car, pulled open the door and sat in.
Good mor-"
"Didn't I already fire you?"
Sayre asked slowly, folding her hands over her thighs. She was wearing a white shirt and a brown skirt that stopped mid thigh. For a woman who's always detested skirts, a mini skirt wasn't what she'd ideally put on for work. But Ophelia had insisted on styling her.
"Miss Carter I am so sorry, I accept my incompetence and sluggishness but I had to come in to work today because I forgot to send your schedule over"
She was leaning over the front seat, trying to appear meek and convincing but Sayre gently shifted her gaze to the window.
Christmas, she thought. What kind of luck do you call looking forward to Christmas every year and getting disappointed by it every time.
Most people spent Christmas with their families. Sayre either spent hers drunk or depressed, there was no in between. She wasn't looking forward to this one, or maybe she was convincing herself not to. Either way, she was still going to spend it in bed... Alone.
"Um... We have to be at Doukas Enterprise as soon as possible, we have a meeting there asap."
Mr Jones started the car.
Sayre immediately got the chills. What?
She dragged her jacket to cover herself.
"What kind of meeting?- and why didn't you call me earlier- you know what? I'm going to have you design and print your own job vacancy and find a replacement within a week."
"Miss-"
She shot her a look. She was suddenly agitated, seeing Beck on what was supposed to be a peaceful morning was certainly not what she wanted. She was certainly going to sell her shares. She suddenly felt sick. Making out with his brother was also not on her bingo card.
She still could not make out that man's face even if she tried to. That club was dark as hell and so was their stupid parking lot.
And why was he in the country anyway? He has been away ever since he was fifteen and no one- Sayre had heard from him ever since.
"We are here."
Mr jones said as he pulled over.
"What do I have today?"
Sayre asked, letting out a sigh as they walked towards and into the building.
"This meeting is supposed to be an hour or even less, introducing you to the other shareholders and staffs. And after this we have an ad campaign with the SLOTHS- good morning"
"Hi, good morning. Welcome, the lift is to your left."
Maggie rambled on and on about something else while Sayre's brain tuned out to a peaceful and quiet space to think. Her heart started an annoying race she could not control. God, she hated how unstable she became around Beck. She could smell his stupid perfume right here in the lift.
That bastard, she thought.
"It's so nice to have a Carter on our team."
"Yeah"
Sayre gave a nervous smile, glancing over and catching Beck's gaze. She stiffened when he excused himself and started over.
"Excuse us Mark"
He said without turning to the polite man.
Sayre blinked when he towered over her, she badly wanted to knee him- if her skirt would allow her.
"Good morning Sayre"
"Miss Carter you mean"
She said ever so casually, turning slightly away from him.
"You don't expect me to call you that"
She shot him a look.
He reached for something in her collar and she shifted, swatting his hand away.
"Are you insane?"
"What is this? Are these hickeys?"
Sayre looked away. Oh, so that was what it was. She sighed, imagine being so detached from reality that you actually don't recognize what an hickey is. Although they appeared to be very obvious in different parts of her chest, she'd assumed she injured herself in her sleep.
"What do they look like to you?"
Beck opened his mouth to speak, shut it and opened it again
"Who did this to you?"
A disgusted expression formed on Sayre's face
"I don't remember you being my guardian or a parent to me. What sort of stupid question is that?"
"The only thing I find stupid is you going out to sleep with men who you know nothing about Sayre. Are you trying to get back at me by flaunting your s*x life around?"
She thought to speak but shut it. She didn't remember Beck being as immature as he was currently. Good Lord, she needed to leave before doing something absurd.
She shifted in her chair, carefully uncrossed her legs and stood.
"Where do you think you're going?"
He asked, walking alongside her as she headed towards the door. Sayre whipped around in anger, looking him straight in the eye.
"Do you need me to file a restraining order against you? I don't want you near me. You disgust me."
She bit out in a low but clear tone.
"Sayre I- you're hurting me. You know I care about you. "
She shook her head, unsure of what to say as they maintained eye contact. His brown eyes were hard with something she couldn't decipher. She shifted her gaze, his hair was still the same, eyebrows still bushy, his nose pointed like the Greek descendant that he was and his mouth as kissable as always. She wanted to kiss him so bad but at the same time wanted to walk away.
She hated how she felt for him. She hated how she felt within herself.
"Beck"
She whipped around and her breath caught in her throat.
He was breathtaking. He looked nothing like Beck and something like Beck at the same time. His hair was buzzed, brows just as bushy and his green eyes could melt any woman that stood in his presence. His nose was the only thing he had in common with Beck, his lips were perfect, slightly curved and witcher like. His body, to die for. He was two times her size, tall and f*****g sexy. The black suit he wore fit like a second skin as they stretched over his muscles. They weren't too tight at all but you could see the outline of his body from afar.
He walked over.
"Mahoney needs you"
His voice still had that same effect, thick and rich.
"Miss Carter"
He breathed, reaching for his glasses and wearing it. His eyes wandered over her face taking her in. Her hair was in an afro today and he thought she looked beautiful- breath taking even.
"Sayre."
He stretched his hand for an handshake. Sayre took it with a smile, she loved the way his large hand engulfed hers
"I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the meeting. I had an emergency I had to attend to."
"Oh, it's fine." She shrugged "I met with the rest of the team"
He made the mistake of glancing down at her cleavage. Sayre had never been the busty type. Up until last year her boobs remained a seedling until miraculously, second puberty happened. She had grown everywhere and now they'd grown into the size of a full orange. Not only that stood out to him but the mark on her cleavage. He stiffened, he'd put that there.
He averted his gaze quickly and Sayre shrugged from his hold.
"What are you doing here by the way?"
"To run the buisness"
He swallowed.
"Oh- What about Beck?"
"He's left to pursue other interests"
He said as a matter of fact, shoving his hands into his pant pocket
"How can I make it up to you?"
"What?"
"To welcome you properly I mean."
"Oh, you don't need to do that"
"I insist."
He lifted his wrist to check the time
"If you don't mind getting lunch with me, I know a place."
