Devika's Point Of View: "I think it is over now. The bleeding has stopped but you need a doctor.", I said knowing that it was not possible to get a doctor for him. "Thank you..", he whispered more to himself than to me. He looked vulnerable, broken, ripped apart suddenly. "What happened?", I whispered drawing closer to him knowing he did not mind anymore. "I miss her, you know. My mother. She.. she loved me more than anything. More than that devil of a husband. When I was young I had a problem in speaking. It was quite a long term one though. He hated me more than anything. When I was around fourteen it was discovered that he was in a relationship and had a child from that. Meera, more precisely. Mom broke down because she loved him. She left him and we started leaving in another flat on rent. And one day, when I was fifteen years old..", his voice broke away at this but he did not stop. He wanted to say all that he was saying. "She had committed suicide. A note was found which had said that she had never wanted to do this but she was compelled to. Her husband had put pressure on her to return and had tried assaulting her also.. She had killed herself because of that. Because of Love.", He said still looking up at nowhere. "I hate love more than anything in this world..", his voice trailed away. He finally looked down at me. "You should leave me and go. You are a good human being and deserve the same. Not me. ", He said with a soft smile, it was full of unexpressed pain. "Why do you care about what I deserve?", I asked knowing he would answer all my questions tonight. "Because even my mother was like you. The same happy, sweet person who felt her life was a fairytale. She thought that her husband loved her when he did not. She felt that one day he would realise her love and they would live happily ever after. But at the end..", his voice broke as he continued, "Life is not a fairytale." His words were so true. I was so close to him but so distant. He was so far from me. "And what if I want to be with you?", I asked him. "I will not let you do the mistake.", He said. He slowly stood up as I just looked up at him. "You are on the opposite path. Nobody will arrest you.", He said and started walking, limping badly. "No!", I shouted at him from behind, standing up. "This is not the way you want!", I shouted at him not caring about anything. He turned towards me with a raised brow. "It is.", He said slowly but distinctly. I walked up to him and pulled him by the collar of his kurta. "This is my life! And it will be my way!", I shouted as he immediately pulled me by my neck towards himself. Inches apart. "You are being foolish! Didn't you want to leave me and go?! Now I am asking you to and you are not! ", He growled. His eyes twinkled in the dark. His steel grip hurted me but I did not care. Leaving the collar of his kurta I took held his neck. "If you are the Gangster King, I am the Queen! You heard that?!", I felt all the fear evaporate away from me. I was not scared of him anymore. I couldn't believe. Ranveer looked back at me with an unreadable expression. "You are ruining yourself. I am fire. You will burn.", He whispered softly, in a manner I had never heard him speak. "Trust me. I will not give up like your mother how much ever torchure you do on me. You know why? Because I know you are not this by choice.. you are this because you had no choice! You are a good human inside but you are killing him yourself just to survive. I respect you and the fact that you are fighter.", I said fearlessly looking into his eyes. His grip on my neck slowly released. "Fine. If you want to play with fire.. play. If you want to dwell with darkness..dwell. ", he said defeated as he moved away. I felt the joy of victory envelope me. I defeated him. "Come with me then.", He said as he held my hand softly turning towards the deeper part of the forest. "Thank you.", I said softly as he just looked back at me. "Not welcome though.", He said. His voice was not scary or disgusted. It had a hint of happiness. For the first time he was happy to lose. •••
