ENDING IN A DRAW?

"I challenge Matero ranked fourth." This was still resounding in every one's ears, they all turned towards Matero, just to see his reaction. The disciple ranked first among the fifteen Da sun had challenged him. This wasn't just any opponent, they all knew Da sun's level was entirely different, he was at the third step of the second realm, some how the real difference between the first realm and second realm started at the third step of the second realm.

The first two steps had a drastic increase in strength, but from the third step various new abilities existed. The most vital was the ability to finally attack through air, the chakra of cultivators took various forms and attacked without the contact of the two cultivators. This was the basics of becoming a legendary cultivator, who ever didn't reach this point is not a true martial artist and can't proceed to becoming a master or accessing the realms that are beyond.

Matero just stared at Da sun, his face was expressionless, no fear, no excitement, nothing. It was a blank stare. Right under every one's gazes, Matero rose to his feet and briskly walked up the stage. He did so calmly, not a trace of anxiety, it was like Da sun was just a normal opponent to him. The spectators cheered.

"Make me proud disciple." Kerepa didn't know what to think, he was fed up of getting shocked by Matero who always surpassed his estimations.

"Matero will make history if he wins."

"Da sun will crush him."

"Do you have more surprises for me." Saru thought. "Strange brat with blue hair."

"Da sun ranked first challenges Matero ranked fourth, if the challenger wins, the two disciples retain their ranks." The judge announced. "But if the challenger loses, he is displaced to fourth place and the victor wins his spot."

Matero was not scared, in fact he wasn't anxious one bit, he was just disappointed. He never expected a match up from any of the three ranked above him, he didn't even challenge any of them. He knew what Da sun had in mind.

"Matero is probably the most terrifying disciple here if Da sun is excluded." Kelena was starting to see why Da sun challenged Matero.

"Defeating Matero meant establishing dominance over every one else." That was Titi, seated next to her was Haru who had bruises all over. He gazed at the two on stage with a fiery battle intent.

"I will utterly defeat this crap and instill my fear in the hearts of everyone else." This was Da sun's thought as he licked his lips and drew his sword.

Matero retained his blank composure and also pulled his sword, his hair blew gently. The two stood for almost a minute without any movements, they just stared at one another, everyone could see Da sun's surging confidence written all over his face, Matero on the other hand was like a pitch black world, nothing came forth from him. The two stared at each other for almost a minute, none made an attempt to move.

"Imperial cut." Chakra already engulfed Da sun immediately he started speaking, there was no release of aura or pressure. Instead chakra engulfed him and he was like a man in flames. He slashed out from where he stood and a huge crescent like material shot out of plain air towards Matero. It originated from the path the s***h took and shot out immediately Da sun slashed, it was like the cresent originated from the sword. It's shape was similar to the path the sword took, it was just on a larger scale. It travelled so fast it almost made contact immediately it was released, all those observing could see was a fairly bright crescent shoot out of Da sun's move towards Matero.

The crescent ripped through Matero's figure, but he was no longer there. "Instant step" had removed him from the spot and he appeared not far from Da sun. The crescent went on to crash into the stage and it left a gash that could contain four men laying down.

"So deep."

"That attack would have ripped Matero to shreds."

"Matero has incredible reaction speed." The clash just now had everyone talking, the level of skill displayed were already above expectations.

Da sun slashed out towards Matero's new position, the crescent headed in the direction, Matero evaded with the same skill and when he appeared, another crescent was already headed for him. It was close but Matero turned just in time to barely evade the strike that cut part of his robe.

Matero released his aura, it was terrifying and it made even Haru tremble sligthly, he moved with a speed that could be considered inhuman and closed the distance between him and Da sun.

"Lightning soul ripple." Matero slashed at Da sun as soon as he was within attack range, lightning travelled around Matero's sword, Da sun struck out in return and blocked the hit.

"Clang." The swords collided with one another, Matero was pushed backwards a couple steps, Da sun didn't move one bit. It was obvious Da sun had the upper hand. Matero launched a barrage of assaults in quick succession, lightning faintly travelled round Matero's sword and he struck at Da sun from various angles. Da sun blocked every single hit from Matero with ease, his feet remained rooted on a spot while Matero aimed at him with various means.

"Da sun is dominating the matchup."

"He can easily deflect Matero's attack."

"What are you plotting, blue haired brat."

Lord Saru didn't even blink, he had the feeling that there was more to Matero's moves.

"I see." Kerepa smiled gently after figuring something out.

Matero was descending into a frenzy with his resilient assaults, he became more vigorous each time the rebound effect threw him backwards. Da sun had no trouble blocking every single strike, but there was an infuriating tingling sensation he got each time they clashed, there was also the occasional shock of lightning.

Enough." Da sun finally had enough. "Dazzling kill." He yelled and slashed out. With a nearly blinding light, bright objects that looked like stars shot out towards Matero. The were tiny but innumerable, closely packed together, they whistled and crashed towards Matero who was very close to Da sun.

"That move."

"It was with this move Da sun defeated nine cultiavators at once."

"Matero is too close."

The attack landed immediately it was released, Matero was right in the middle, the stars quickly engulfed him and no one could see him move.

The attack lasted for a few seconds and disappeared, a figure covered in smoke knelt where Matero initially stood. It was Matero and a faint light surrounded him, he only had tiny marks on his body and no serious injuries.

"How is that possible?" Da sun couldn't believe his eyes.

"Buddha body." Lord Saru laughed.

"Matero countered."

"Da sun, you might have the advantage of attacking through air." Matero steadily rose to his feet. "Dazzling attacks, colourful strikes and the likes." He was now on his feet, his hair kept waving endlessly. "But then they are only as strong as you are."

"So true disciple." Kerepa had full understanding of what Matero meant, in fact every master present understood.

The ability to attack through air is merely an upgrade, the strength of the cultivator is still equivalent to his talent and skill. Matero was one of the few that could wrestle cultivators a step above him, so far he reacted in time, Da sun wasn't a difference. The attacks could move through air, but they were still limited to Da sun's level of strength, to a prodigy like Matero, they could be handled.

"Ripple rebound." Da sun screamed as soon as Matero said this, his entire body trembled and he glanced at Matero with panic.

"Eh eh." Lord Saru smiled. "So that is it."

"He really mastered the grand master's ripple rebound." That was Koi.

The ripple rebound was one of Kerepa's secret moves, at first Matero used a technique that sent in various signatures into the body of the opponent. In this case he used lightning soul ripple, each time he came in contact with Da sun, he released things that could be referred to as seeds into Da sun's soul, this was the cause of the tingling sensation Da sun had. When the seeds are activated, they seal of the victim's aura and chakra, rendering him almost useless for a certain duration. Matero could not yet use the complete form and so, he could only lock up about fourty percent of Da sun's full strength.

"With this, I can drag us to a draw." Matero knew he couldn't easily defeat Da sun, but he didn't need to.

"You will pay for this brat." Da sun yelled and his aura exploded, the entire stage shook.

"Still this terrifying." Matero was a bit shocked. "Well, it is the third step after all."

Da sun charged at Matero, his ability to attack through air had greatly diminished, so he therefore relied on real contact and skill. The two clashed over and over, We sun slightly dominated the collisions, but Matero didn't withdraw.

"At this rate, they will end in a draw."

"If they exchange up to hundred moves with no obvious turn around, then it is a draw."

"I knew he wouldn't disappoint."

"I still can't tell who is more terrifying." The observers watched as the two disciples exchanged moves with their swords, with Da sun slightly dominating, but Matero had no traces of being pressured.

Sixty moves, seventy moves, seventy-five moves, eighty moves, eighty-five moves...

"I have to defeat this brat if I must save face." Da sun thought within himself when they reached ninety moves.

Ninety-two, ninety-four, ninety-eight... In his last attempt to defeat Matero, Da sun unleashed a deadly move.

"Full imperial kill stab." Koi rose to his feet in shock, the move was forbidden when wrestling disciples of the imperial cultivation academy, it was a deadly move reserved for worthy enemies.

"It is that crazy move."

"That is forbidden." Titi exclaimed where she sat.

Like a dart through cheese, Da sun stabbed through Matero's flaw, the sword travelled straight towards Matero's chest and was merely inches away.
