CHAPTER FOUR

1264 Words
The Ride to the lake house was full of music, snacks and car games. It was fun but I could tell V was worried. I didn't press it. So much happened in so little time. When we arrived at the lake house we were greeted by Veronica’s older brother Dante. He had bags under his eyes and it was clear he was stressed about something, it wasn't until Vincent came into view I knew why. Veronica was fast. Like a panther. She tore into Dante who hung his head in sheepish submission. Despite being younger and smaller than him, she was aggressive and vicious. Even if he tried to argue she was the princess of the family. Her father would have him kneeling though she needed no help as they all loved and doted on her, never wanting to upset her. I couldn't hear her but by the narrowed gaze on Vincent it was clear she wasn't holding anything back. He approached the siblings causing her to quiet down though the anger was still evident in her eyes. He looked over at me, his gaze proving through the dark tint of her car and into my soul. I tried to shrink but he didn't relent. Frustrated she stormed back to her car, Vincent called her name and made her pause. It was more like a command. I was shocked she actually listened. Next thing I knew she was unpacking the car. Whatever he said made her change her mind rather quickly. Not trying to get involved I kept my head down and followed her. His eyes met mine for a moment before I turned away, my cheeks flushed from his strong presence. Once we got to our room she threw her things down in fury. “Who the hell does that asshole think he is?! Coming to MY family house…ohhhh I'm going to tear Dante to pieces for even telling him!!” She was pacing the room, her eyes blazing with fury. I went to speak when a soft, deep voice spoke from the other side. “ViVi…come on…it won't be so bad…” Dante had a tremble to his voice. Veronica, ever the softy for her family, began to calm down. She sighed and pressed her head against the door. “A warning would have been nice traitor…you owed me that much.” I could feel the remorse in his voice as he replied through the door. “I'm sorry ViVi…I should have warned you. Will you come out?” She looked at me and sighed, opening the door. The two siblings hugged and mended their relationship with ease. As I admired them Vincent came out from the shadows behind Dante. A thick brow raised in the sibling display of love as if it was another world sight. I chuckled a bit. “No siblings?” His response was curt as he hardly acknowledged me. “Don't you.” It was a cold statement that cut me deep. It appears he knows me and my situation. Veronica growled at him as she pulled away from her brother. “f*****g asshole.” With that she shut the door firmly, trying to comfort me. She tried to comfort me but I just gave a weak smile in response. “I'm ok V…I'm over it…” She could tell it was a lie but she didn't push it. Instead she pulled out a cute black string bikini and grinned at me. “Come on Doll, let's party!” She chuckled at my discomfort as I tried to cover my heavy chest and curvy hips that were barely concealed by the flimsy fabric. I was flustered and annoyed but she found a cute pink sheer floral cover to help me feel somewhat covered. After putting on her own shimmering gold bikini, which she wore proudly, she dragged me out to the lake to her family boat where a few people were already in a party mood. “Who are these people?” She shrugged. “Neighbors, college kids…you know. Summer fun right?” I felt more uncomfortable but she pushed me onto the boat. It was spacious and elegant, a group of fifty could fit easily so the smaller grouping of thirty or so strangers was no issue, however, I was always an introvert. Veronica found a quiet space for me to sit and brought me a fruity drink and a plate of snacks before going to mingle. She looked radiant as she socialized with ease, her smile infectious and her laughter commanding attention. I felt more awkward in comparison as I kept my eyes down and kept to myself. I was enjoying my food and drink peacefully until a couple of guys spotted me. Their eyes undressed me as they licked their lips. I shuddered with unease, looking away hoping they wouldn't bother me but I was not so fortunate as they found my avoiding gaze to be an invitation. What I could only assume was that the leader of the trio spoke first, trying to charm me with his toothy grin and soft voice. “Hey pretty mama, want to spend some time with us? Let us show you a very good time.” His suggestive tone and lecherous gaze made me flinch. I tried to find an excuse or a way out but they were persistent. I felt uncomfortable, fidgeting in place. This only seemed to amuse them more but before they could get closer a familiar and overwhelming presence made them freeze. “She's mine.” A rather deep and possessive voice declared. Vincent’s voice. The men didn't argue and quickly scurried away. Vincent looked at me, my head still hanging down as I tried to avoid his gaze. He said nothing and sat beside me. His arms folding across his chest, his muscles flexed through a tight black T-shirt. I noticed tattoos up his arms and peaking through his collar, something I hadn't seen with his shirt buttoned at the club. Looking at him closer I could see he was roguishly handsome. Jet black hair that was brushed back. Deep, brilliant amber eyes. His skin was a warm sandy color that complimented against his black attire. His overall build was fit but not overly so, he reminded me of a god of death. Didn't help he carried an aura of danger, like death awaited anyone who messed with him. It felt a bit intimidating having him so close but he wasn't moving. His eyes scanned the crowd as he scared away any potential people that would otherwise approach me. Slowly I got used to him, eating my food peacefully and enjoying myself when suddenly he took off his shirt and threw it at me. “Put it on.” His commanding tone left no room for an argument. He was polite enough to look away as I took off my cover and slipped on the oversized shirt. I hadn't realized how big he really was until I wore his shirt. It felt warm and smelled like leather and warm spice. It was exhilarating to inhale but I tried not to, feeling a bit shy. “Sooo…why?” I asked quietly. There was silence for a while. Like he was finding the best words to use. Finally he gave a devilish grin as he turned at me. “So they all know.” “Know what?” I asked naively. He chuckled and leaned closer, whispering in my ear with a soft growl in his tone. “That you're mine, Princess.”
