CHAPTER THREE

Jonathon growled in annoyance. His eyes narrowed as he met the stranger's intense gaze. “This doesn't concern you.” The stranger lifted a brow in challenge and gripped Jonathon’s wrist, without warning he moved in such a fluid motion I hardly had time to process what was happening. It wasn't until I heard Jonathan's cries of pain. “What the f**k?! Agh!! Y..you broke my wrist!! I’ll f*****g have you locked up!” I looked at the stranger who didn't look in the slightest bit bothered. His expression was unwavering and his eyes cold as he released Jonathon who slumped to the ground, gripping his now very floppy wrists. The man gave a warning look before placing a hand on the small of my back and guiding me away. Jonathan's curses and empty threats faded into the background as the music slowly drowned him out the farther we got. I wanted to ask who the stranger was but a man with similar features to V came up to us with wide eyes. He had the same honey gold eyes with the same lush deep reddish brown hair. Though his features were sharper and more masculine with a touch of age to him you could clearly see the family resemblance. He looked nervous as he looked at the stranger. “V..Vincent….w-what uh…what brings you here buddy?” Before the man could speak Veronica appeared, her arms folded across her chest as she glared at her brother. “Dante Alexander Valentine! Where the hell did you go?!” As spotted the stranger her eyes narrowed. “Vincent.” “Veronica. I’d say it's a pleasure but that would be a lie.” The man had an icy cold tone as he shifted, not bothering to hide his annoyance. She hugged and saw me, quickly grabbing me and pulling me away. Tucking me behind her. He seemed to chuckle at her protective display. “Are you challenging me princess? Because you know what happens when someone challenges me.” She stiffened. I've never seen her waiver before but this man and his overwhelming presence had even her pausing for a moment. I could tell he held power so I kept my head down, seeing me he tried to soften his look but V refused to step aside. She eyed Dante who reluctantly nodded. “Hey…Vincent, let's go to my office and you could tell me what brought you here, hm?” Vincent sighs and nods, following Dante away but I can still feel his eyes on me long after he's gone. I look at Veronica, her expression hard. She doesn't speak and just takes my hand storming out of the club. The rude home was silent but as we got into my house she let out a long groaning sigh. “Why do you only attract assholes?” I looked at her surprised and feigned hurt, she chuckled and we both shrugged. As we dressed in comfy shirts and shorts she took my hand in hers, sitting me on the couch. “I need to tell you something...about Vincent.” Her eyes lost in words she tried to carefully choose. She let out a sigh and looked into my eyes. “He killed my friend Amara.” I gasped and covered my mouth, trembling as I looked at Veronica. Her eyes reflected past pains as she fought back tears. I gently touched her cheek and she smiled softly. “H-How…?” I asked quietly. She sighed, gripping my hand. “S..she overdosed…” she could tell my confusion and sighed in frustration. “Everyone thinks he's blameless but it's his fault! He exposed her to that world Addie! She was like you…smart, strong and sweet and like a devil he corrupted her and left her all alone…she couldn't take it and took her own life…” Pulling her close I gave her a reassuring squeeze. Holding onto her tightly. She sobbed in my arms holding onto me. Seeing him must have brought back painful memories, memories I didn't get to help her through the first time but now I was here. We spent the rest of the night watching trash TV and eating junk food until we passed out in the living room. The next day when we woke up Veronica went to the master bedroom to shower and burn what remained of Jonathon's reminders in the house while I began to cook breakfast. It was starting as a good day until I saw my phone blown up with messages. Some from Jonathon, some from my former mother-in-law but the most were from Nadia screeching in text how “I ruined her wedding” and “I'll pay for this”. I sighed and ignored them when there was an urgent knock on the door. When I opened it I was stunned to see officers there, they looked me up and down in confusion. “Are you…Adeline Michaels?” I shrank a bit nervously and nodded. “I-I am currently…what's the problem officers?” They looked visibly uncomfortable. “W-We just need you to come down to the station for questioning…” Before I could burst into tears Veronica came out, hair wet from her shower and body wrapped in a towel. She saw the police officers and narrowed her eyes. “Officer Jacobi and Officer Nathan, what brings you gentlemen here to disturb our breakfast?” The two men looked more uncomfortable. Veronica was a princess in this city. Her eldest brother Dante owned every club in the city, his clubs were places were elite and the underground met seamlessly. Her second older brother Jackson was a high ranking police officer, his influence could save or damn anyone. Of course her third older brother Michael was a famous lawyer, he had the charisma to make a guilty man believe he was innocent. With her influence in entertainment the Valencia family was a powerhouse most didn't want to provoke. The officers shifted “W-We are just doing our jobs Miss Veronica…” She lifted her phone from the counter and dialed a single number. Before they could try and stop her, her eyes narrowed as she spoke. “Jackson. I suggest you get your officers before they commit a terrible offense.” One of the officers immediately got a call and motioned to his partner, they tipped their hats and scurried away. Veronica slammed the door. “W..what was that about V? I…I haven't done anything wrong…” She looked at me, righteous fury evident in her eyes. “Don't worry Addie. It's nothing to worry about. Let's go and have a good day. Remember the lake house?” I nodded and she smiled. “Let's go out there for a while, ok?” She took my phone before I could look at it and we ate our breakfast. Afterwards she packed everything she deemed passable which wasn't much. She groaned looking at my pitible wardrobe. I chuckled and she just shrugged. “We got to go shopping, take your pitiful clothes for now. Come on Doll.”
