3. ill fate

Eva's POV With a peevish face, I reached my office and worriedly moved towards the auditorium after knowing all employees would have to gather there. Confusion prevailed on my face as I can't even get why the management is changing? And why do we have to gather in the auditorium instead of working? Such a problematic situation is this. “What is going on?” I asked one of my colleagues, but before she could have replied to me, Sarah pulled me by saying, “Come, I kept a seat for you.” “Thanks, but why are we here? Don't we have to work? Or do we all get fired?” I rubbed my forehead and sweat badly. At any cost, I don't wish to get fired. It would be so bothersome to look for another high-profile job but why is Sarah so relaxed? Fine! I understand she is carefree still how could she be so calm. “Our new boss is running late, so we have to wait though I heard he is not going to fire anyone,” listening to her words, I realized why she is so relaxed, and it is time I should also calm down. “Hey, you didn't tell me. How did you feel after listening to my news?” Sarah is certainly an agent who finds everyone's secrets and at another hand, no one knows her secret. “Tell me, did you get relieved? Sarah again asked. “Glad! I can't even afford to lose my job. It would be too much struggle to find a new job with the same salary at a different company,” I said. “Position too. You are a CIO's (chief information officer) assistant. It won't be easy to get the same position in a new company, also you won't get a good environment and amazing friends like me,” she winked at me. “Why do we always talk about me? What about you? Do you think you would get a good position elsewhere? You might be a contract worker but you still get a good increment. Not only this if management wouldn't have changed then by now you would have got a permanent position,” I said, sharply. Already, I have anxiety because of the morning's incidents and here Sarah is eating my head. So, I feel like killing her. “Alright, I know,” she mumbled and sat straight, getting angry at me. “I only attempted to lift your mood, nothing else. You don't need to be so harsh with me,” after some minutes, she whispered. “So many things are going on in my head,” I said. I gave her an apologetic look. She didn't even glance at me and focused on her mobile. “Don't show me a tantrum. I have amazing news. I am sure you are going to love it. s**t! No way, I was supposed to keep my lips sealed,” I signaled to zip my lips and looked around myself. Everyone was gossiping around me and nervousness was on their faces. Glad! I have Sarah. She made me relieve tension. “Spill beans, if you won't do then I won't tell you about my source,” she smirked at me and showed me her mobile, but before I could have taken it, she pulled it. “Alright but you have to keep within yourself. She doesn't wish for others to find out,” I regret that I am going to tell her Ariana's secret. Well, it's okay! I trust her further whom she will say? No one, so it's not a bad deal. “Who? Can you use a noun?” She annoyingly said. “Someone is pregnant! And I am not going to use the noun until you don't tell me about your source,” I arched my brows and curled my lips in a smirk. “As you know I am in HR departments. There is someone who likes me, he only keeps me giving updates,” she showed me her mobile. “Woah! But who is he? And do you like him?” I excitedly saw messages on her mobile and smiled reading them. “No! I am not interested in the relationship. I am happy with friendship,” for the first time, I noticed some sadness and pain in her eyes, but I was reminded of my situation which made me angry at her response. How could she use someone for her benefit? If she can't reciprocate someone's feelings then she should have drawn a line, so the next person won't have to get hurt. Furthermore, it's better to end things before another person raises their hopes and sees a forbidden dream. Like I had seen and as a result, I ended up breaking badly. I just wish he would have told me that sorry Eva, I can't like you ever, so don't expect anything from me. Yes, I know he didn't know about my feelings, and I am blaming him unnecessarily, but I also need someone on whom I can put the blame and move on. Moreover, the reason behind hating Adam is not that he didn't reciprocate my feelings. It was something beyond my feelings. He snatched my hope with his soft words. “Hey, are you fine? What happened to you? You got tears in your eyes,” Sarah broke my trances and kept her hand at my shoulder. “Can you stop messing with his emotions?” I gave her my mobile and stood further saying, “I guess it is better if I go to my desk rather than wasting time here.” Perhaps, I am reacting unnecessarily, but my experience is not allowing me to ignore pettiness. “Are you Miss Brown?” I stopped in my tracks listening to a voice and turned behind. “Yes, say,” I asked with confusion and attempted to recall this man who was 6 feet long and seemed like a model. “Your id card was at the entrance,” he extended my card to me. “The guard called you to take your id, but you didn't turn,” he further said. “Thank you,” I mentally hit my head and took my card from him. Generally, I don't make such mistakes, today was an exception. Furthermore, my luck was bad. I couldn't use the card to unlock the gate as some technical error occurred, so I needed to go to guard, and I guess because of tension I forgot to take the card. “No, not me, Miss Brown. You should say thanks to your new boss. He only picked from the guards and gave it to me and asked me to give it to you,” he looked towards a particular direction and then bowed his head saying, “Also, sir said it is not good to lose things and if someone else had got it then he would have misused it.” “Is it, Mr?” I paused and smiled reading his name, “Mr. Diaz. Shall I pass my regards to him? Or would you do it from my side? Sorry to be insolent, but I have to arrange files. So I don't need to run late.” “Aren't you going to attend the seminar?” Mr. Diaz spoke to me, but his concentration seemed somewhere else, I guess that's why from time to time, he stared in a direction but whenever I looked there, I couldn't see anyone. “It seems you are preoccupied,” I moved slightly but stopped listening to his words, “Sir said your style changed a lot. He couldn't recognize you by seeing your photo. He took 10 precious minutes to reach some conclusion.” “Excuse me,” I looked at him with anger. However, he bowed his head saying, “I am a messenger. You please carry on with your work.” He left from there murmuring something under his breath. What just happened? Whatever, I should do some work to divert my mind rather than killing time here. I swiveled to go but stopped thinking to ask who his sir was. However, I couldn't even see his retreating figure. It seemed he was a kind of ghost who disappeared in the air after doing his work. Never mind! Soon, I would find out who my new boss is and what connection I have with him. I just wish we don't have an ill-fated relationship. To be continued.
