Chapter 1
Today is my eighteenth birthday. I have been waiting for this day since I was dropped off at the front door of the Orphanage for the special and unique. My name is Alex and I am a werewolf or I am supposed to be. When I was six years old my parents left when they got called by the Alpha and never came back. After a few weeks the pack memeber asked to watch me turned me over to the orphanage with out a single word. I grew up among many others who where just like me and others who where different. Werewolves, witches, warlocks, and other creatures who had no one to care and help them learn their abilities. On my sixteenth birthday I was supposed to meet my wolf and change. I did the ritual I wanted with all my might to change but I was the only person still standing in human form. While I did not change or meet my wolf in any way I was still some how able to hear the pack and understand what they communicated through their mind link. Once I figured out I was different I kept everything including what I could hear to myself. No one knew why I did not change or what was wrong with me so they left me be. I had abilites as if I was a wolf such as healing quickly, speed, great sence of smell, and killer eye sight. I could even make my nails grow and go back in, but never a single patch of fur or a tail. Now that I am finally eighteen I can get out of this place and maybe just be a normal person and get old and live a quiet peaceful life. The caretakers of the orphanage are not very loving and sentimental but they where kind enough to give me two hundred dollars and a wave good buy in the early morning when I set out to start my new life. With all I owned in a duffle bag and a book bag I walked to the bus station a few blocks over and closed my eyes and pointed to the map. Red woods, PA. Well I have never heard of it but what the hell lets see what fate has for us.
"One way ticket to Red woods, Pa please," Alex said with a smile and money in hand.
"Twenty-Five dollars" the older man said in a monotone voice and no expression.
Poor guy looks like a robot. I got my ticket and board my bus with in the next hour and the journey has really begun. I am so excited I can't stop stairing out the window like it's my first time out ever. I probably look like I have issues. Three hours later as more and more mountains and trees pass by the driver finally says we will be arriving in the next two hours. I am thankful because about fourty- five minutes before that a weird feeling took over my stomach and makinig me uneasey. As the bus comes close to the end of the trip I notice this is a very small place. There is one grocery store s***h hunting store, a gas station, mechanic shop, bar, salon, and a small motel with run down tiny cabin. What the hell did I just get myself into.
After a few minutes of getting my barings I decided to walk to the bar first. I am starving and could use something to drink anyway. Definetly looks like a biker bar on the inside the air is thick and despite there being only a few older men at the end of the bar it smelled of sweaty men and to the bottom of that beer tap.
"hello darlin you must be lost did you get off at the wrong stop," a kind older woman said from behind the bar with a big smile.
"You know I thought the same thing at first, but this is where my fate landed so I am here to figure out why. I am Alex by the way," I reached out to shake her hand with a kind smile
"I'm Betty but everyone calls me grams," Betty said as she smiled and took the young girls hand. As their hands met Betty had a vision. Fire raging, wolves dying, and then out of the distance this young girl and her grandson come together the vision stops.
"Are you ok Betty," Alex asked again in concern.
"Oh yes just tired. Running this place day and night on my own since my help moved away," Betty said after looking into Alex's concerned eyes for a moment.
"Here sit can I get you some water or anything take a few minutes. It's not busy yet rest I can wait," Alex urged in concern for the older woman.
Betty was interested after her vision so she sat in the stool next to Alex and faced her. With out a word the two woman just staired at each other in curiosity. Betty could sense great power coming from this girl and new she had to keep her here. Alex could sense a storm brewing inside of Betty and was worried it was her health and not the future of her whole pack.
"Would you like a job here," Betty blurted out with a big smile. She had a feeling and the godess herself showed her this girls importance so she must stay.
"I would love that, but I am only eighteen so I cant handle the liquor," Alex said as she looked down sadly.
"I think you know that we dont follow the same rules in this establishment as the humans do in theirs darling," Betty said with a laugh. " Hank I will be right back stay out from behind my bar you hear me." Betty called as she grabbed a hand full of keys and lead Alex back out the door. "you are going to need a place to crash and you are in luck. I own the bar and the motel so you can have room number six this way you are closest to the woods for when you need to shift," Betty said as she walked across the street and into the office of the motel. With out a word to the attendant Betty grabbed the keys for cabin six handed them to Alex and walked out the door.
"Thank you for all of this Betty really," Alex started to say as she stared at the keys
"Oh please call me Grams you are no longer a lone wolf my little pup," Betty said as she patted Alex's head like she was a toddler. For some reason Alex could tell she was genuine with her words. Ever since she woke up this morning her sences have been hightened and she keeps getting feelings like tingling in her fingers and butterflies in her stomach. The closer she got to this place the more at ease she felt, but why.
After the short walk to the cabin Alex was setting her bags inside and settled in. The cabin was a one bed room one bath all wood cabin. Everything inside was up to date and it looked like something out of a hunters catalog just with out all the deer heads and antlers, but it was still warm and comforting. Wow I keep using that word yet until recently have never felt it maybe this place will be a good thing and a fresh start for me.
