After the divorce, I didn’t know if I could ever feel...this,” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. “You’re not alone in that fear. I’ve been hesitant too,” Liam confessed, taking a step closer, bridging the distance between them. His eyes searched hers, a blend of kindness and affection reflecting within their depths. “I know it’s complicated,” he continued, “but I can’t help but feel a connection with you, Clara—a spark that reminds me of the joy, the laughter we’ve shared.” Clara’s heart raced as she absorbed his words. The warmth of connection flooded her senses, mixing with the remnants of trepidation. Could she really allow herself to embrace this chance for love? “Maybe we can take it slow,” she proposed, a timorous smile breaking through her worry. “Together, that is.” Liam’s face lit up, his smile widening. “I’d like that. I want to be part of your journey, wherever it leads.” Before they could say more, Lily burst into the room, her energy radiating like a sunbeam. “What are you two doing?” she asked, eyes wide with curiosity. “Just wrapping these gifts for you!” Clara said, hastily trying to cover up the moment that had just unfolded, hoping the excitement of Christmas would distract her daughter. “Can I help?” Lily urged, bouncing on her heels. “Of course! You can put on the ribbons!” Clara replied, a smile returning to her face as she pulled Lily into the folds of their ongoing festive activities.
