-Ember- I was looking at all of the books thrown and what was broken .... it seems the most destroyed things were the books of the circle's by-laws. "law books huh?". I jumped nearly out of my skin "NIRA you can't just sneak up on me like that." I turned and saw her smile ... it didn't reach her eyes and I could tell being here with me upset her. I cleared my throat. "Nira .... after we get finished with this ... can we talk?" she looked into my eyes and her face was so tense. then she sighed, "Ember ... you made your intentions clear ... I don't want to hold you back or crucify you." "no no no .. Nira ... can we start over? ... I'm sorry I ever said that to you." Nira narrowed her eyes and sighed. "no ... we have work to do." she turned her back on me and my heart sank. "but Nira ... I f****d up ... I let the best thing in my life go, out of fear... I let my life's meaning slip away and slowly over time I realized it and now life is so dark I have to fake a smile for the queen... I have never had to fake a smile ... but without you, everything is so empty." "ENOUGH ... YOU CAN NOT THROW THAT AT ME ... THAT IS HOW I HAVE FELT SINCE THAT DAY AND YOU WILL NOT USE IT AGAINST ME .... LEAVE THIS ROOM SO I CAN WORK!" Nira shoved me out and put up a barrier so she can collect evidence in peace. "Miss.... if I may?" a small voice came from the dark. it was one of the younger trackers "the trail ends at the front door which indicates flight ... ill talk to the boss for you... I can tell you are sincere." my eyes dropped as I held my breath feeling like if I released my air I would unravel. -Alex- "Alexander ... with your partner missing you are the high priest ... this ritual needs to be run by a priestess... her mother and I will gladly step in if she is not found in time." my fingers were numb and it was hard to hear but when she said they could step in my anger bubbled. "I bet the two of you are over the moon about her disappearance. "my hands slammed hard on the table in front of me as I stood from my chair." You get one last hurrah and get to run a ritual. And here I was thinking you would give a f**k that my love ... YOUR DAUGHTER IN LAW ... is missing ... carrying YOUR GRAND CHILD. ... Mother ... you sicken me sometimes." I stalked out of the door and straight to the town hall where I was stopped by a young tracker who bowed low. "Sir." she greeted then clicked her pen. and showed me a diagram I didn't ask to see. "this is the floor plan of the building." she said pointing as I nodded. "this was the route taken to remove the young priestess but it stops here." she pointed at a spot that had been chalk circled. "this means flight or teleportation... which we cannot track ... so hopefully Nira finds something in the office." I nod and then breathe. "if it won't hurt the investigation... I can do a rewind spell that my father came up with... I am not very useful in other ways ... but ... this I can do." she looked at me curiously and waved her hand to tell me it was fine. "ok ... please take notes of what you see." I walk to the spot and stand in front of it and start chanting and breathing. my hands twitch as they slick my hair back and my back tenses. I chant and shadows start to appear that resembled a hooded figure carrying Everly. the tracker gasped and started to sketch what she saw and wrote a description. Then the shadow started moving back to the office, shooting guards that were running up. the tracker followed the shadow and flung the door open on Nira to continue observing. "WHAT THE f**k ALICE? I TOLD YOU-" Nira was cut off by Alice shushing her as she continued taking notes ... Nira finally noticed what was happening and watched. "what?... the... " the shadow placed Everly down and slid her under the desk by her ankle, where she curled up in a ball and chanted. then the figure unflung books and threw chairs and backed out the door forcibly slamming it and back through guards and destruction and back to start. I nodded and the entire scene played in real-time forward with sound then as they reached me its as if something had snapped and I was pushed over by a gust of wind. My eyes slowly opened both women stared at me. "sir..." they were both blinking like they were deciding if what they just saw was real or not. I threw my hands up "my father developed that spell to help uncover truths" Nira blinked again and smiled "Oh man ... you have to teach me that." Alex finally smiled as Alice gasped both of our heads whipped around to her "what?" we asked in unison. "it was a masking spell... they can't have done this " "WHO?" we cried again out loud. "the former priestesses and .... a dragon"
