Sand

358 Words
A rope hits my side and I fight to grasp it. I hear Dean yell “Hold on!” Confused but clinging to the rope for dear life I look up and see Dean holding the stick in one and and the rope he cut in the other keeping me from being taken. I don’t think he can hold us like this for long. Juju scrambles to try and reach dean to help but there not enough slack in her rope. I frantically search for another rope. I can’t take Dean down with me. About three feet away I spot it a rope but the sand is moving fast. I take all my strength and use Deans rope to try and stand. I’ll have one shot at this. Deans shouting at me telling me not to do something stupid that he can hold me. I block him out taking in a calming breath and make a break for it. Slipping against the sand I fling my body towards the rope. Fear takes over as I struggle to get a grip on the rope. I have to make it I curl my body around it forcing my self to get tangled in it hoping it’ll be enough to keep me from falling. A tear runs down my face as I pray this works. There’s a sudden jerk and a pop and I scream. The rope wrapped around my arm and popped my shoulder out of place. Tears stream from my eyes but I can’t help but be relieved. I’m hurt but I’m not in the hole. Just as I think this can possibly get worse the ground shifts and lifts making us hang and the sand move faster. Someone I don’t recognize goes flying past me scream I can’t watch but I know they aren’t going to make it. I hang from my arm and the pain is unbearable. My fingers are purple and there’s black dots in my vision. I try to breathe through the pain but it’s to much the world is going dark. Please let me survive this is my last thought before I black out.
