A high school start.

886 Words
It was the start of a new school year at Rosewood High School, and for 16-year-old Alice, it was a chance to start fresh. She had just moved to the town with her parents, and this would be her first year at a new school. As she walked through the crowded halls on her first day, Alice couldn't help but feel a little out of place. Everyone seemed to already have their own groups of friends, and she was the new girl, the outsider. But she was determined to make the best of it and make some new friends. Her first class was English, and she took a seat towards the back of the classroom. She tried to blend in, but her bright red hair and quirky style made it hard for her to go unnoticed. As the teacher introduced herself and the class, Alice couldn't help but notice a group of popular girls sitting in the front row. They were the typical mean girls - beautiful, confident, and seemed to have it all together. In the middle of the class, the teacher asked everyone to introduce themselves and share a fun fact about themselves. Alice's turn came, and she nervously stood up. "Hi, I'm Alice, and I just moved here from New York," she said, trying to sound confident. "A fun fact about me is that I can recite the entire script of Mean Girls." There was a pause, and then the whole class burst into laughter. Alice could feel her cheeks burning with embarrassment, but as she looked towards the front row, she saw one of the popular girls, Emily, giggling and smiling at her. As the class went on, Alice found herself sitting next to Emily and exchanging small talk. She was surprised at how friendly and down to earth Emily seemed, despite being part of the popular crowd. After class, Emily invited her to sit with her and her friends at lunch, and Alice accepted hesitantly. As they walked to the cafeteria, Emily introduced Alice to her friends - Taylor, the athlete, Victoria, the brainiac, and Jenny, the artist. They were all curious about Alice and asked her all sorts of questions, making her feel welcome and included. As the weeks went by, Alice found herself becoming friends with the girls. They were all so different yet had a strong bond. They started hanging out outside of school, going to the mall, watching movies, and having sleepovers. Alice couldn't believe she had found such amazing friends in such a short time. But not all was perfect in Alice's new life. She noticed that Emily had a bit of a mean streak, especially towards other girls who were not part of their group. She would spread rumors and make fun of them without any reason. Alice didn't want to be associated with that kind of behavior, but she didn't want to lose her new friends either. One day, when Alice and Emily were hanging out at Emily's house, they overheard a conversation between Emily's parents. They were talking about how Emily's behavior had changed since she became friends with Alice and how they were worried that she was turning into a mean girl. Alice was shocked. She had always thought that Emily was just acting mean to impress her friends, but now she realized that it was not an act. She knew she had to talk to Emily about it. The next day at school, Alice pulled Emily aside and confronted her about her actions. Emily was defensive at first, but then she broke down and told Alice that she was just trying to fit in with the popular crowd. She was afraid of being rejected and wanted to do everything to be accepted, even if it meant being mean. Alice reminded Emily that she was already accepted by her friends just the way she was, and she didn't need to change herself to be liked. Emily realized her mistake and apologized to Alice and everyone she had hurt with her actions. From that day on, Emily changed for the better. She stopped trying to be someone she wasn't and became a kind and caring friend. The girls' friendship only grew stronger, and they became known as the "Fab Five" - a group of girls who accepted each other for who they were and supported each other no matter what. As the school year went on, Alice and her friends faced many challenges - exams, drama, and relationship problems. But they always stuck together and helped each other through it all. They even started a club called "The Rosewood Helpers" to volunteer and give back to their community. On the last day of school, as they said their goodbyes, Alice couldn't believe how far she had come in just one year. She went from being the new girl to having a group of amazing friends who accepted her for who she was. And she knew that even though they were all going to different colleges and embarking on their own paths, their friendship would always remain strong. Alice learned that sometimes, the best things in life come when you least expect them. And she was grateful for her high school experience and the "Fab Five" for teaching her the true meaning of friendship.
