"So, sister, how are things?" Caleb made a trying smile towards his sister, who just stared back at him like he was crazy, with me eating slowly, feeling sick and honestly, it wasn't the pregnancy, it was the man placed right before me, on Caleb's right side, giving me smiles occasionally, talking to my mate and sometimes his sister, who didn't seem to want to speak at all, the least to me.
"Good, and congratulations to you on becoming the head, Caleb." Melody did a slight raise of her wineglass, giving my mate a sad smile that I knew was making him miserable. Still, he didn't show it, my hand finding his underneath the table, not caring if someone saw us; this was my pack, and if I wanted to hold the hand of my mate when he was sad, then I would.
"Yes, and well deserved, since we all know, your father wouldn't let go of his head position if someone didn't make him…" I stared back at the smirking Alpha. Did he just say in the full dining room that Caleb killed his father? He did, but still! You didn't say that, not like that!
"He was a monster, and you all know it, and if Caleb hadn't stopped him…" I was growling, my eyes glowing and not caring anymore, with my mate giving me a warning over the matebond, stopping me from counting, calling the last head what he really was, cold and calculating, with no heart!
"Well, all Deltas think the head is a monster… they don't understand…" Beta Melody was giving me a look like she didn't understand how Caleb had mated me, giving me a sigh with my eyes were full of gold, sick of people thinking they knew everything about us, and about what kind of hell I had been through to even be with my mate, not just get married!
"Oh, I understand just fine. Me being a Delta is the worst outcome for your brother, I know, since your father told me to my face when we mated." I smile now, still angry but proud. I was pouncing her back. Did she really think that I didn't know just how bad her father had been, because clearly, she was living in a fantasy?
"Emilia, stop." I huffed now, putting my own glass down and showing the whole table my frustration at not being able to talk, like the truth was too big of a secret and still, it was in the room, written on the faces of Caleb and Melody, both giving me stares like they were not happy about me acting out, maybe they really where siblings after all?
"Please, can we just stop acting like you two didn't mate, when we have rules about this, and then you killed Father over it, because he was the only one sane enough to stop you." Melody seemed to have taken the same stance, wanting to push back; she clearly wasn't happy anywhere, not with us, the night, or even her husband.
The first Beta of the blood moon was just searching, like he still didn't believe that I was fighting back against the two biggest Alphas around and his wife, who tipped her glass back and put it down with a bang, before a delta came running, knowing already to refill it.
"Melody, I think you need to stop talking about my mate, and child, as if father was still alive." Caleb had been silent with me, getting more upset that he wasn't taking a stand. He was the head alpha of the golden moon; he needed to make sure people didn't treat us like we didn't deserve to be mated. We did!
"Caleb, please, you had Katarina all lined up and you..." I growled, hearing the name of my mate's former Luna, the chosen one, making the whole room stop breathing, people's voices died down, porcelain not clinking, and deltas not running around. Everything had stopped.
"Yes, that is right, Melody, I had her all wrapped up for me, the perfect beta female for me to mate, your best friend…" Caleb made a sigh like he didn't want to scold her. To my shock, she was one year younger than me, and he treated her like a child. Wasn't she supposed to be eighteen soon??
"...she loves you, Caleb, still does…" Melody was giving him a sad look, devastated, with him sighing like he knew that too, with me about to leave, just stand up and go. Then they could all have a feast without me, about how great his chosen mate was before me, goddess!
"I don't love her, Mel, s**t… look at you, you don't even know how the matebond works…" Caleb looked like he wasn't trying to hide that he was hurt, too, by her silence when he took down their father. Maybe he had expected her to support him, and she didn't.
"I love my mate, and I don't care if she is a Delta or our cousin. I chose her right away when I saw her. You are going to show her the same respect as everyone else, or I am going to send you away, and you are never going to see our baby." Caleb made a smile now, taking my hand and kissing it, making me want to start bawling my eyes out. Did he just say before two great packs that he loved me?
"With all my heart, Luna," I started to cry, with my pack wanting to come closer, rescue me from what was hurting me, even deltas wishing to come closer, a girl reaching out a napkin before being growled off by Caleb, since he didn't want someone else close to me, not now when I was as most vulnerable, Beta mark and tony packing and giving me looks, just wanting for Caleb to signal them to come and get me, back to safety when they didn't understand, none of them did. I was safe right here with my mate.
"Okay, that's enough for me tonight… and Caleb, you hold onto that girl… she's got fire…" Alpha Victor made a smile that was hard to read, as I started to calm down, Caleb giving him a nod, as if he knew just how special he believed me to be, his light and savior.
"Oh, and Vic, if you ever try to make my mate feel bad in any way, I am going to have to hurt you." Caleb's voice was somber, giving the standing Alpha a smile showing he was serious. This was the last time he was to push me like he had tonight, or there would be consequences for everyone.
Caleb had made me get up, even though I was still trying to understand what had just happened. Did Caleb tell the entire world he loved me, and only me, not some precious Beta girl he wouldn't care about? That was amazing!
"Not amazing, just the truth…." He smiled, pulling me closer, and I finally breathed easier, since the betas surrounding us were of the golden moon, making me realize just how comfortable I was as the Luna, knowing I was safe, not threatened like I had felt before. My eyes showed love to everyone in my pack; I loved them so much.
"And now for the real problem tonight…" Caleb made a heavy sigh, with me not understanding what he was talking about before remembering the last part of Alpha Victor's reply, Melody and Beta Brad, oh. I looked back at the girl, who wasn't even eighteen, and looked like she didn't understand her brother. She never would, not until her own mate showed up, and that was not the silent, composed, and friendly Beta Brad.
"Is he still going to take her as her mate?" I was sad suddenly. It wasn't fair, was it? Melody was getting used to creating an alliance with Caleb, walking inside the head office, still not letting my hand go and giving me a look like he knew I wasn't going to like what he was going to tell me, closing the door and made me sit down on the sofa, giving me another weird smile, he loved me so much.
"Alpha Victor is my sister's mate." I gasped, feeling the baby kick. Wow, I did not see that one coming!
