Chapter 2 "Are you sure going to that banquet is a good idea?"' "No not at all, but then again I am a special guest" "You know it would have been nice if all of that charity money was going to places that truly needed it" "Well at least this one is in honor of the war victims, hopefully, it will fill that purpose," said he as he sips his whiskey. Banquets were not his idea of social events. He had to play the part and pretend to be somebody civilized for a couple of hours. He hated that, but then again that was part of his duty and he never fails to accomplish his duty. He came to the U.S.A to meet with the famous self-made millionaire Carla Brown about a project to help the war victims in his country. Instead, he was invited to a banquet to which he couldn't say no to. The U.S.A was the least of his favorite country since the cause of the suffering of his people was their wayward politic. Not all of them were of a bad breed of course; but those in power were the greedy wolf, devouring whatever they touched. Whether he liked it or not, his status had to deal with all the formalities. After all, it was the country first. He met Carla Brown about eight months ago, during one of her trips to his country. She was African American with the most beautiful face he had ever seen. Just by looking at her, he could tell that she was a prize in her younger year. He wishes he had met her during her time; he sure would have wooed her. She knew how to hold her own; she was brave and kind-hearted. He loved the fact that money didn't change her way of life. She had true compassion and empathy and that's the reason why today he found himself in the Marriot five-star hotels sipping a whiskey and dreading a banquet. He has so many other things to do then assisting a banquet. He hopes tomorrow after the banquet he will be able to talk to her and by Saturday be out of this country. Many awaited him. Chief editor Colin watched Sarah and Anna walked in hand in hands laughing their hearts out. True be told, if he wasn't married, he would have certainly court Sarah. The girl was an angel, he had yet to see her mad, to which he wonders if she ever does. She was always smiling, whenever their eyes met and would grace him with her beautiful smile. A smile, that has become his remedy every morning. She was his light when the time was dark. He loves her; unfortunately, it's a love that will forever stay hidden in his heart. He should have listened to his father, had he listened he wouldn't have married last year, and maybe he would have had a chance with Sarah. It's not that he didn't love his wife. He did, it's just that he felt that if it were Sarah that was by his side, life would have been brighter. As his eyes followed the girls, he noticed the hungry eyes of his male employees staring or more like gawking at the girls; what could he say, after all, he didn't blame them at all. Clearing his throat, he called out Sarah Upon hearing her name, she stopped in her track and look his way "please come into my office" she utters something to Anna then walked him toward him. He waited for her at the door and as she passed by him, he made sure to inhale the smell of her perfume. It had this sweet smell to it that was pleasing to the nose. Clearing his throat once again, he closed his door and walked toward his desk. "Please take a seat" she walked toward the chair and sat down. Today she was wearing light blue skinny jeans that accentuated her curves with a black half sleeve shirt, she wore a boot and to complete her look her hair was in a ponytail. She had no makeup, not even lipstick. Really where is this girl from. His body was already reacting to her with just her presence, yet he hadn't even touched her. "Colin, hey Colin, earth to Colin" he heard something hit the table snapping me out of my thoughts. "Are you alright?" Clearing his throat, he responded. "Of course, dear, I am" "You seem so far away" "Well I was just thinking about a few things" "Hope good things" She flashed him her smile as she said so. He had to focus; she was forbidden fruit no matter how much he would love to. "Sarah, you’ve heard of the annual ball held by the G&C Corporation?" "Well, I have been hearing of something of the sort over the news" "The G&C Corporation is known for designing the latest high-tech gadgets for military and police purposes. This year as every year, they have decided to host their annual banquet here in Newark City. During that banquet there will be fundraising; the money will go toward war victims in the Arabic world" "That's awesome of them," said Sarah skeptically. "I want you to cover the banquet Sarah" Sarah froze in her seat; she didn't think she heard correctly. She looked to Colin "excuse me" "The host of the banquet Carla Brown has asked me for the best writer that would give this banquet an ampler bigger than what it is, and you, my dear has the skill to do that" "Wait for Colin, I know I am good, but to ask me to cover a banquet where only the rich with their glamorous lifestyle will be present, you must be out of your mind" "Out of my mind yes, I have writers here that will be more than capable of doing it. But they are missing one thing, the passion. I have never seen anyone write with so much passion than you. You never fell the amaze me. That is why I want you to cover that banquet. I want you to blow everyone away. Of course, it will boost our company." "I should have guessed that's what you were after" Chuckling Colin responded "I am an opportunist after all. The banquet will be held tomorrow at seven in the Marriott Hotel." Silence reign a little bit in the room. Colin could tell when Sarah's mind was working and right now it was going more than 100% faster than usual. He watched as the excitement slowly grew in her eyes. He knew the answer before she even said it. "Yes, I'll do it, but one condition" "Which is?" "That you let Anna come with me and I will also need an advance in salary to get ready for tomorrow, you have to admit you took me on short notice," Sarah says with an innocent look. The look that would pull a string in his heart every time and if he didn't catch himself would have him in very big trouble. To stop his lustful thought, he thought of her request about Anna Anna, here's another girl he admired and protected like a sister. Like Sarah, Anna was special in her way. The moment he had to interview her, a year and a half ago, he saw in her a rare and amazing talent with an innocent soul. He was not surprised when both girls click right off and it certainly didn't surprise him that Sarah asked for Anna to accompany her. Those two have never gone to an event without each other. "You already know the answer to that question; yes, she can go with you." As he said so, he pulled open his desk drawer and took out an envelope and handed it to Sarah. "What is that?" "Consider that as a bonus for both you and Anna. There's about two thousand five hundred in there for each of you" "Wow" "Don't ask questions, just take it and spend it wisely" As much as she wanted to ask questions, she didn’t. It was not the first time that Colin would give her bonuses. She did always ask herself why, but of course, he was a tight-lipped man. So she did the simple thing she’s wanted to do but was always scared of doing, she never properly thanked him after all. She got up from her chair, went around Colin’s desk, gave him a hug and a kiss on the cheek and rushed out of the office. She didn't' turn around as she closes the office door, otherwise, she would have seen the lustful look that was sent her way.e was his light when the time was dark.
