Chapter 2

I swear I'm cursed.. if it's not one thing; it's another. I did not think leaving the comfort of my home was going to be this dramatic yet… here we are. The star of our very own soap opera. I can see the cover description now. "Small town girl goes for walk and dies of embarrassment.." No, death would be too kind. I lifted my head and slowly opened my eyes. I'm suddenly staring into the most beautiful blue eyes I've ever seen. I'm a writer and even with all the words in a Webster. I still can't describe the true beauty of Jru Merchant's eyes. All I could say is.. "beautiful..". Imagine my surprise when I thought I'd said that in my head only to see Jru's eyebrows shoot up when I said it out loud. " Well, I was thinking the same thing but you beat me to it.." Jru said with a little laugh. He was smiling at me with that dimple and those beautiful eyes. I honestly couldn't remember what I'd come in for. Did Jru Merchant just say I'm beautiful? No, that has to be wrong. Guys like Jru with all their muscles and good looks. They don't go for fat action writers like me. I slowly backed away as he looked at me confused and a bit hurt. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. I'm just here for a drink." I tried to dart back past him but for some reason today Jru was filling up every space and completely blocking my way. "Umm.. excuse me?" I politely said. I wasn't sure that he heard me though as he still hasn't budged. "Ahem.." I cleared my throat loudly. "Can I please get around you?" I managed to stutter out. A few moments passed and he still hadn't moved. Again, I didn't think he'd heard me. Then he looked me in the eyes and said, "No, no Teine I don't think this time I'm gonna let you get around me." He was standing there with such a fierce look. I was taken aback for a moment. Bombarded mentally by so many questions. First, how did he know my name? Yes, we've lived in the same town growing up. But, I would remember if we'd ever spoken before or if we were even introduced. Second, why does he look frustrated and upset with me? I mean, he's the one blocking my ice-cold Cherry Pepsi. Which happens to be the only joy I currently have these days. I stepped back further and hit the candy shelf with my back going as far as I could go. "I'm sorry, I don't understand. Have I done something to offend you?" I was amazed that words had formed into sentences and spoke aloud from my mouth. So, when he proceeded to say what he said next. I was too taken aback to respond. For once in my life I, Teine Wilson, was completely speechless.
