Jrus point of view)
Rolling down the window in my truck I leaned out my window and took a deep breath. I
could smell the season changing. One of the many things I had grown up appreciating
about Utah. Seasons change here and it's honestly magical.
I hadn't been back to Pleasant Grove in 5 years. 5 of the longest, most lonely years of
my life. If, it hadn't been so important to me to achieve a successful career with the
Marines. I would never have left. It was both the best and hardest decision I'd ever made.
I left behind something or more specifically someone, and now I was home to claim
what's mine.
Today was hot, so I decided to stop in at Bjs and say hello to the old man and get a
drink. BJS gas station had seen all of Pleasant Grove youth at one point or another. It
was the hang-out/meet-up spot and it was run by the meanest old man in the whole state.
I would know best considering he's my grandfather and my only living relative left.
The bell above the door jingles like I've heard time and time before.
"I'll be right out!" I opened and closed the door again so the bell would jingle again.
"I said I'd be right out dammit! You kids are rotten to the dam core! Each and every…."
He stopped, I turned around to face him and was blown away by the pained look on his
face.
Holy Jesus, Was that a tear?
I decided I'd better speak before the old man had a dam heart attack in front of me.
"Hi Grandpa, how's business doing? Kids are still driving you crazy old man?"
He blinked and turned his head away from me to hide his tears.
"Oh, shut up. None of these kids was raised like you my boy.. you're the last of a dying
breed.."
I smiled, he missed me. This old grouch missed me.
" Well, none of them had you at home to answer to so I'm sure they're all just running a
muck around this town," I said with a small laugh
" And as usual you'd be right. These kids have no damn common sense.." He went on to
continue but the bell jingled again with the door opening. And for a moment, It was like time had just stopped to just give me a gift. Walking in and
headed towards the back freezer was none other than Teine Wilson. Grandpa had
stopped talking and followed my stare.
"OH, everyone is horrible. BUT! my beautiful Teine. She is still the sweetest treat to hit
PG since Purple Turtles shakes." He said all of this while staring at her and smiling.
Smiling! This man has only smiled once in my life and I think he had ran over the
neighbor obsessively barking dog
He actually was blushing! I laughed to myself and started to walk towards my goal. My
one reason for everything I work for.. even if she's never known it.
She was trying to get past me. Seriously! I've been gone 5 years and she can't spare
5 minutes from her famous writing life to say hello?
I was upset, I was tired of waiting for Teine to realize what's been in front of her forever.
" Can I please get around you?" She honestly thought it was going to be that easy. No,
not today. We're done playing this game.
"No, no Teine I don't think this time I'm gonna let you get around me," I said with a hint of
anger. Ugh this woman! What do I have to do to get her to notice I exist?
"I'm sorry, I don't understand. Have I done something to offend you?"
She finally lifted her head. Holy lord, she still had the most amazing eyes I'd ever seen.
But this time her just overlooking me was gonna end today. At the counter, I could hear
my wonderful Grandfather laughing to himself. I looked over and glared at him.
" She's still clueless about things my boy. She's like that princess sleeping beauty. She's
just been locked away waiting for her prince.."
I looked back at her and answered her question, "Yes, Teine you have again offended
me as usual."
