Elaris’s POV The morning passed more quickly than I expected. Perhaps it was because I had something to look forward to. Every now and then, I'd glance across the supermarket and catch Linnea looking at me. Each time our eyes met, we'd smile before returning to work. It almost felt like we were children again. Only this time... Neither of us was wearing faded orphanage uniforms. Neither of us was wondering whether someone would come to choose us. Life had carried us far away from that place. It just hadn't been kind enough to make the journey easy. Around noon, Mrs. Carter finally announced the lunch break. The moment the words left her mouth, Linnea appeared beside me as though she'd been counting down the seconds. "I've been waiting all morning." I laughed. "Same here."
