Elaris's POV
The automatic doors slid open behind me as I stepped out of Green Basket Market, and the cool evening breeze instantly brushed against my face. I closed my eyes for a brief moment and breathed it in slowly. My feet were sore, my shoulders ached, and I knew I would probably sleep the moment my head touched the pillow tonight.
Yet...
It felt good.
For the first time in weeks, I was exhausted because I'd worked, not because I'd cried.
Behind me, employees trickled out one after another, laughing as they talked about dinner plans and weekend errands. Mrs. Carter stood by the entrance, wishing everyone a good evening before disappearing back inside to finish the day's paperwork.
I adjusted the strap of my handbag and started toward the bus stop.
"Lari."
