Chapter 5 The Trance

Persephone's POV

I have some of the best sleep someone could have on the bare ground, suprisingly enough.. Not what I was expecting for sure, but I bet it has something to do with the fact of how naturally comfortable and safe I feel around Alpha Jayce.

He seems nice and caring and has a lot of light in his aura, but I don't know why he is here and of course I'm suspicious of that question he doesn't seem to want to answer.. But I honestly don't mind him being here one bit.. Especially after he saved my life, when he didn't have to.

I hear a soft lulling song being sung.. It's in a high pitch I don't hear too often so this of course gets some of my attention.. I slowly start to wake up as I stretch, hearing those soothing tones hit my ears more than before.. it sounds so familure but I can't place where I know it from.

I suddenly hear movement from besides me as I open my eyes just a pinch, to see Alpha Jayce standing up and carelessly walking over the fresh fires small and still burning ashes and to the water as if he is in some sort of trance.

I yawn and stretch out before warning him. "Alpha, I wouldn't stray too close to the water because of the beings that live in there, ready to prey upon the unsuspecting."

He doesn't respond or even listen as he starts to walk into the water acting almost hypnotized.. That's so strange, I watch him slowly inch into the water, deeper and deeper, so I glance around to see a huge boulder in the water that has a siren sitting on it luring him in with her music and seductive movements.

No, this can't be happening.. those damn sirens! I have to help him! He obviously doesn't know what he is doing! I jump up, running into the water, right in front of him.. I put my hands on his chest as I try to wake his hypnotized mind. "Alpha.. Alpha.. Jayce! You need to snap out of it! The siren is trying to drown you for her meal!" I say with so much panic in my voice as I slap his cheek lightly realizing that me being nice to him won't wake him so I have to step it up a notch.

I again slap his face way harder than before accompanied by another harder slap, trying to wake him up out of this trance. I get a desperation in my heart at the thought of him dying.. this can't happen.. I can't let this happen.. So I start to get more aggressive with my help by pulling and tugging his arms back trying to get him all the way back onto the land but it's a no go.. he is not giving in. I jump on him like a rider to a dragon as I chant against her spell trying to help him like he did me.

I keep chanting as he just stops in the middle of his trek with the water about waist length. He doesn't move back or forward just frozen like a statue.. making the siren mad that her trance isn't working anymore for him.. So I hear her screeching from in front me.

The siren is more mad then I thought she would be, about me interrupting her meal. But luckily for me the siren song doesn't work on females. I watch her glide through the water towards us as I jump off of the Alpha, setting my feet to the ground. I get around him to face her as I put my hands up to fight.

"Why interrupt my meal Fae? He is just a wolf and no importance to you.. just let me have him." She hisses at me as I shake my head not moving from my spot in front of him for his own protection.

"Well then this is all on you." She spats back at me as she slithers through the water so quickly while I put my hands up making an ice barrier in front of her as she crushes it instantly. I use the weeds under the water, to try to hold her and she rips them out with no effort whatsoever.

She gets her upper body out of the water as I turn and kick hitting her in the chest but she grabs my ankle so I use the other one by spinning and kicking her in the face then falling in the water. She drops over the top of me trying to hold me under the water but I can barely get my face out.

"Alpha?!.... Alpha?!........ JAYCE! HELP ME!" I yell out as she laughs at my expense, knowing I don't have much more fight as she pushes the rest of my face under water. I try to fight her hold on me by kicking scratching and hitting. Nothing is working.. mostly since the water is her home and place that gives her strength, but it's obviously my weakness. I don't even have my satchel attached to me to try to get some weapon to use in my defense.. I feel the air leaving my lungs as I try to hold on but the darkness is quickly consuming me as I gasp for air getting a huge gulp of water causing me to choke, just drowning with nothing that I can do to stop it.

Jayce's POV

I'm listening to an elegant song that's just pulling me into a trance with a glowing figure that looks to be Persephone from afar. I keep walking as something tries to stop me. but I just push past and continue walking just wanting to get to my mate.

I feel a pat on my face multiple times from both sides, annoying me like a fly landing on my face.. I just need it to stop. I keep walking even with my arms going behind me, as if I'm trying to swim backwards.. with the sounds of water around that could be a possibility in this dream.

That's is until I feel something wrap around me trying to keep me from walking. I hear Persephone's voice in my ear. "Jayce, Use my voice to guide you back to the reality, to see clearly through the disguise of what you cannot decipher."

I feel different as if this isn't right.. something is not right.. I listen by stopping, not knowing what is real and what is not, since I'm still hearing the luring music from the silhouette that looks like my mate. "Come back to me Alpha." She begs into my ear.. as I stay stopped not knowing what move to make next.

I feel the hold let me go, but I stay in place as I slowly feel myself coming back to reality feeling less and less like a dream.. I think I am awake now? Who knows, because this all feels like a dream.. but I'm starting to think this is real.

I stand in place for who knows how long until I hear, "JAYCE!... HELP ME!" from Persephone, snapping me back to reality as I look around trying to figure out what's going on.. I see a creature holding Persephone under the water trying to drown her. I'm standing in the water away from our campsite.. What am I doing here? What is that thing?

No time to question, because all I know is that my mate needs me. I quickly extend my claws, swinging my arm towards the threat as I scratch at the fish.. mermaid.. sea monster.. whatever it is.

It screeches in pain, grabbing for her wound that's now gushing blood.. or at least I think it's blood on her neck, as she thankfully let's go of Persephone. Her head bursts out of the water as I watch the creature receed into the water away from us glaring the entire way.

I grab Persephone and pull her all the way out of the water, as she doesn't move a muscle not even trying to get air. I'm panicked and so confused, I don't know what's happening right now.. Last thing I remember was falling asleep by the fire, then next thing I know I'm waking from my dream in the water with my mate fighting off a being.

I watch Persephone's eyes roll back as her head drops to the side with her body going completely limp.

"Do something you fool! Don't just stand there!" Milo demands from me as I get down on my knees, opening her mouth, putting my ear right next to her mouth and I don't hear her breathing.

I press my lips to hers as I blow into her mouth trying to get some air into her lungs.. it doesn't work so I make the same motion because I can tell my air, is putting air into her lungs by her chest rising.. She is just not breathing yet.

"Please Persephone please.. don't leave me I finally just found you after all these years.. please." I beg her desperately as I breathe again into her mouth and again, not knowing what else to do.. I feel my heart stopping at the lifeless sight before me.

I take a huge breath of air, blowing it into her mouth as she spats out so much water across me, gasping for air.. this action puts beat back into my heart knowing my mate is ok. I hold her protectively into my chest as she just melts into me, accepting my care.

"Persephone, are you ok?! What happened?!" I ask her with so much confusion threaded through my words. She is still panting but stutters through an answer for me.

"She.. was a siren luring you in with who you desire most.. So she had you in a trance trying to drown you for her to eat.. I tried everything I could think of to get you out of that trance.. but nothing worked.. Well I was chanting in your ear and I think that slightly worked because you stood in place not moving at all.. But she wanted me away from you so she came for me and I tried to fight her to save you.. but obviously I'm not the best fighter.. I'm sorry... and thank you... again."

She reaches up gently touching my cheek as I lean into her hand just loving her sweet gesture. I reach up putting my hand over hers, hiding it more into my cheek because I love the sparks between us.. There are electric sparks between us everytime we touch, but this is the best it has ever felt. I have always heard about the electric bond between mates, but I didn't know it would feel anything like this.. I'm straight addicted to this feeling, wanting it every single day if I can help it.

"So you were the voice I heard in my dream begging me to come back to you? That is what stopped me and started waking me up... So you helped me? You fought for me?" I inquire with her as she nods to me replying without hesitation. "Of course, I know you would do it for me because you already have. I will always fight for who can't defend themselves.. No matter what."

I smile down at her absolutely loving that answer.. She would be a perfect Luna, I love that idea already. She reciprocates my smile staring up at me without saying a word.

"Show her how much WE appriciate her sacrifice." Milo instructs while inching closer hoping for that electric, contact lip lock as she panics, clearing her throat then quickly sitting up getting out of my hold.

"Thank you for saving me.. again.. but I have to go." She states to me as she panic grabs her things.. pushing dirt on the fire to put it out, before she turns, then leaves the area with a haste, leaving me all alone.
