Gwen’s POV
“Lady Giselle, we all know that in today's gathering, you will find out that you and the Alpha's son are
destined to be together.” I heard the female pack members’ discussion as we walked in the hallway,
heading to the pack gathering.
“I know, right? Amos and I are fated and in today's gathering, we will make it official.” Their laughter
filled in the air as I hastened my pace.
Not because I was in a hurry but because I didn't want them to spot me but it was too late because they
were coming right behind me, like intentionally following me up.
“Some weaklings will remain wolfless and mateless again and I heard this is the last annual pack
gathering.” One said sarcastically and the trio burst into laughter.
“What do you think? Will she be forced to marry a forbidden rogue? I mean, she failed to find her wolf
twice now.” They continued laughing and making fun of me.
“Just like her mother who seduced the Alpha’s father because it was shameful to remain mateless.”
Giselle’s statement made me turn in anger, staring at her.
“How…!” I wasn't able to finish my word when they shoved me aside and I staggered.
“Loser!” They laughed and walked down the path.
“Giselle!!” My chin tightened as I angrily clenched my fist.
What could I do? Someone as mateless and wolfless as I was.
It wasn't life. I didn't have a wolf at all, but my wolf was as good as useless since I couldn't transform
properly and it was always dizzy.
And as for my mate? I hoped for him during my eighteenth birthday, last year's annual gathering, and
now, this one.
I was slowly losing hope and wondering if I was destined to be a loner.
I sauntered into the pack gathering, other Beta, Gamma, and Omega including our Alpha, the elders,
and his relatives. The place was already crowded and everyone was impatient
Today was the last day of the mating ritual which means whoever doesn't find their mate would remain
mateless forever.
“Now, the Mating Ceremony will begin.” The assigned Gamma announced as sounds from the big
drum filtered in the atmosphere.
The Shaman began to chant and incantate while we closed our eyes.
I didn't know for others but for me, I was praying fervently for my own mate.
“I'm tired of waiting.” I badly wanted a soul mate, a partner who would protect me from the hell I was
living in.
“I found my mate! I found my mate!” A sharp masculine voice filtered in the air as the Alpha's son
punched his fist in the air.
“Lady Giselle…” One of the ladies beside Giselle lowered her face.
It seemed the Alpha's son wasn't her mate and she looked so annoyed.
“That's not possible! I'm supposed to be his mate!” Giselle screamed in dissatisfaction but no one
listened to her as everyone was focused on the ceremony.
“The Alpha gives the right for mates to bond as soon as they are linked.” The assigned Gamma notified
everyone with a loud voice and before us, the people who had found their mate began to make love by
kissing deeply.
“Argh!!” Giselle groaned and turned to leave when she stopped in her tracks.
“Mate?” She gasped in shock as she slowly looked towards the direction the scent was coming from.
“You?!” Her eyes burned in anger at the sight of the dirty-looking Omega who constantly poked his
nose and let out a tooth smile.
“Argh!!” She couldn't stay in the gathering anymore, she glared at me in disgust and stormed out of the
gathering.
Everything came back to normal, quiet and intense.
I was still praying, waiting, and hoping he was in this pack and would find me just like the Alpha's son
did.
“WHAT?”
“WHAT'S GOING ON?”
“IMPOSSIBLE!”
Everyone suddenly started gasping and murmuring as I slowly opened my eyes to also take a look at
what had occurred again.
The elders and the Alpha were all standing, staring at me and I wondered why they were staring at me
so seriously.
“What's going on?” I thought inwardly as I turned backward to see what they're looking at.
“What?” I was dumbfounded for a few seconds.
“What is this?” Behind me, my wolf suddenly unleashed itself, without me transforming.
But this time, my wolf was different. She was golden, with sharp red eyes and looking so strong.
“This… this…” I stuttered as I quickly faced the Alpha.
“What's happening to me?” I hadn't seen something like this in my entire life.
No one in this pack had experienced it so it only left me stunned.
“Who is she?”
“What is she? What's that?”
Some pack members muttered, also confused.
“You! Come up!” My Alpha instructed with a very loud voice and I obeyed almost immediately
because I was scared.
“She's a Guardian Wolf.”
“She's a Guardian wolf, a unique one.” These were the words I heard from some of the elders as I
approached the center of the platform. It was unclear but I heard it vividly.
“I'm a Guardian Wolf?” I didn't know if I should be excited about it.
I wanted a mate but the Moon Goddess gave me a bigger and unexpected gift.
“Shaman, please check her. Is she going to protect our Pack? It has been decades since we saw a rare
kind.” The Alpha instructed the female Shaman as he bowed shortly.
The Shaman walked in circles, staring at me coldly and muttering unclear words which I didn't bother
to know what it was.
“Sh… She is a Guardian Wolf!” The Shaman announced, I didn't know how she announced it but the
pack members looked clueless.
They didn't act like people who heard us and they remained anxious.
“What?” The Alpha gasped and a bright smile engulfed his face. “Is my Pack finally safe?” He asked
anxiously, staring at the Shaman.
“Unfortunately, she will be Guarding another pack but not yours.” The Shaman spilled bluntly and his
jaw dropped.
“Another pack? I raised her. I groomed her. Our pack took her in for decades and now she would leave
for another pack?” He looked annoyed and uncomfortable by the news he just heard while I remained
silent.
“Tell me, which pack is she going to take the title on as their Guardian?” He asked, urging the Shaman
with his eyes.
“The Grayscale Eagle pack.” The Shaman announced and the elders, including the Alpha, panicked.
“What? Our enemies? She will be guarding our Enemy's pack??” He questioned in anger, looking
irritated.
