Chapter one:The Happiest Day Of My Life
"Wow... the bride is so beautiful." "She looks absolutely stunning." The whispers drifted through the grand cathedral as the heavy wooden doors slowly opened. Every pair of eyes turned toward me, and for a brief moment, it felt as though time itself had stopped. The soft melody of the wedding organ filled the air while white rose petals decorated the long aisle. Golden chandeliers cast a warm glow across the hall, making everything look like a beautiful dream. This was the day I had imagined ever since I was a little girl. The happiest day of my life. A smile found its way onto my lips as I tightened my fingers around my father's arm. He looked at me with gentle eyes filled with pride before patting my hand reassuringly. "You look beautiful, sweetheart," he whispered. "Thank you, Dad," I replied softly, trying to hold back the tears gathering in my eyes. My heart was beating so fast that I could hear every single thump inside my chest. I was finally marrying Nathan Williams. My childhood friend. My first love. The boy who had been by my side through countless birthdays, school memories, and dreams about the future. There had never been another man in my heart. Not once. Today, after years of loving him silently and openly, he was finally becoming my husband. The thought alone made my chest swell with happiness. I could hardly believe this moment was real. Step by step, we walked down the aisle while the guests watched with warm smiles. My bridesmaids followed gracefully behind me, their dresses flowing elegantly across the polished floor. Then I saw him. Nathan. Standing confidently beside the priest in his perfectly tailored black tuxedo. He looked unbelievably handsome. His eyes locked onto mine the moment I appeared. A smile slowly spread across his face, one that I had fallen in love with years ago. Heat rushed to my cheeks, and I lowered my gaze for a second, unable to stop myself from blushing. He's smiling at me... He's really smiling at me. This isn't a dream anymore. I'm truly going to become Mrs. Clara Williams. Dad gently placed my hand into Nathan's. "I'll take good care of her," Nathan promised. "I know you will," my father replied before stepping away. Nathan intertwined his fingers with mine. His hands were warm. Steady. Comforting. He leaned closer and whispered, "You look breathtaking." A nervous laugh escaped my lips. "And you're making me nervous," I whispered back. He chuckled softly. The priest smiled kindly before opening the Bible resting on the podium. "My dear brothers and sisters..." the priest began, his calm voice echoing through the silent church as he spoke about the sacredness of marriage, the lifelong commitment Nathan and I were about to make before God, and the promise to remain faithful to one another through every season of life. The church fell completely silent. Even my heartbeat seemed quieter. The priest continued, speaking about the vows we were about to exchange before God and everyone gathered, reminding us of the responsibility and love that came with marriage. I swallowed nervously. This was really happening. Everything suddenly felt so real. The priest turned toward Nathan. "Nathan Williams, do you take Clara Smith to be your lawful wedded wife? Will you love her, comfort her, honor and protect her, forsaking all others, remaining faithful to her for as long as you both shall live?" Nathan looked directly into my eyes. There wasn't even the slightest hesitation. "Yes," he answered firmly. "I do." Those three words wrapped around my heart like the sweetest melody. The priest nodded before facing me. "Clara Smith, do you take Nathan Williams to be your lawful wedded husband? Will you love him, comfort him, honor and protect him, remaining faithful to him in happiness and in suffering, in wealth and in poverty, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live?" My eyes became misty. This was the man I had loved for almost my entire life. There was only one answer. Without giving myself another second to think, I smiled through my tears. "Yes," I replied. "I do." A wave of applause spread through the church before slowly fading again. The priest smiled warmly. "May we now have the rings." A small velvet box was brought forward. Nathan carefully picked up the diamond ring. His fingers trembled slightly as he slipped it onto my finger. "With this ring," he said softly, "I give you my heart and promise to stand beside you every day of my life." Tears rolled down my cheeks. I picked up his ring and gently slid it onto his finger. "With this ring," I whispered, "I promise to love you, trust you, and choose you every single day for the rest of my life." The priest closed the Bible with a gentle smile. "By the authority given to me and under the blessing of Almighty God, I now pronounce you husband and wife. What God has joined together, let no one separate." The hall erupted into loud applause. Cheers echoed from every direction. "You may now kiss your bride." Nathan wasted no time. He gently pulled me closer until there was barely any space between us. His hand rested carefully against my waist while the other cupped my face. For a brief second, he simply looked into my eyes. Then he kissed me. The kiss was gentle. Warm. Filled with every promise we had just made to one another. The guests clapped louder, some wiping away happy tears while others cheered excitedly. I laughed against his lips. This truly was the happiest day of my life. Or so I believed. Just as Nathan reluctantly pulled away from me... The massive church doors suddenly creaked open. Every conversation stopped. The applause slowly died. Heavy footsteps echoed through the cathedral. Instinctively, I turned toward the entrance. A tall man walked inside with calm, confident strides. He was dressed in a perfectly fitted black suit that made his broad shoulders appear even broader. His dark hair was neatly styled, and his sharp jawline gave him a cold, commanding presence. Every movement carried effortless confidence, as though he belonged wherever he stood. The sunlight pouring through the open doors framed his figure, making him seem almost unreal. My breath caught in my throat. Who... is he? For reasons I couldn't explain, my eyes refused to leave him. He wasn't smiling. Yet there was something strangely captivating about him. Something impossible to ignore. My heartbeat, which had only moments ago belonged completely to my new husband, suddenly skipped. Why am I staring at him? I quickly scolded myself. Stop it, Clara. You're married now. Nathan noticed my distracted expression and followed my gaze. A smile spread across his face. "I'm glad you made it," he called out. Then he turned back to me. "Clara..." He smiled warmly. "I want you to meet my older brother."
