chapter sixteen

Something is telling me not to go to the lunchroom, but I didn't listen. I just wanted to be sat with my friends right now. I instantly knew that Mariana would be the first one to ask what was wrong and I think I can just settle it with "I ran into a pole". That should work, right? No. Shut up.  I couldn't eat because of my face, so I just went to the table where only Kelly sat at the time. "Hey" I said quietly. She glanced up from her book with a smile. "Hey."  Her eyes went back to the book and I was about to let out a breath of relief when her eyes darted back up quickly. "Ella, what happened to your face!?" She whispered yelled. "Nothing. I ran into a pole."  "Yeah, a pole with hands!" She said, angrily. "No. I'm serious, I ran into a pole, Kelly."  I think I was nearly begging her to believe my story. "Yeah, right. A pole my ass." "Where's Mariana?" I asked, ignoring her statement. "Take a guess." Kelly said with a sigh, looking over at the "popular table".  I looked over too, seeing Mariana sitting beside Aria with a smile on her face as she talked and laughed with the cheerleaders and football players. "I'm not surprised." I sighed, as well. "If she doesn't come today, I take it you wouldn't want to come either?" "Yeah, sorry. I just want to go home and rest my face." "Oh no, I get it." She said, with a reassuring smile.  I looked at the cafeteria doors to see Blake coming with with his arm wrapped around the shoulders of Lily. She went out the back doors and he went over to his regular table. He sat down, said something and left the table. He got halfway to the door when Hailee screamed, grabbing the attention of the faculty and the student body. "You can't break up with me!" Hailee screamed, with her hands by her side.  "I just did." Blake called over his shoulder, as he exited the lunch room.  "Ugh!" Hailee screamed, looking over the lunch room until her eyes found my blue ones. "This is you're fault!" She screamed at me, causing my eyes to go wide. Well, as wide as they could since they were bruised.  "You slept with my boyfriend and now he's breaking up with me!" She continued. Oh great, everyone is looking over here now. Note my sarcasm. "You're a di-" She was cut off by Gracie. "What the f**k happened to your face, Ella Grace!?" Gracie screamed. I looked at Kelly. "I gotta-uh-" I stammered, trying to find a sentence that made sense. "I get it, go ahead." Kelly said. I nodded, grabbed my bookbag and fled.  I knew that Gracie was going to do nothing but follow me, so I went to the rooftop, hoping that she didn't know anything about that. She probably doesn't. I let the door close behind me and went into a corner. I brought my knees up to my chest, wrapped my arms around them and silently cried. I honestly thought that everything would change if I lost the weight but I guess not. I guess I'll always be a pathetic loser.  I quickly tried to stop crying as I heard the door open. I heard heavy boots, which could either mean it was janitorial or Blake. "Ella, I'm pretty sure you're up here."  It was Blake. I continued to keep quiet. "I saw you come out of the lunch room and thought you'd be up here." Silence. "I don't know how to do this. I've never really said it before but uh..." He paused."I apologize. yeah, I apologize for uh, well that. It's basically my fault." He continued his sucky apology. I stayed silent, wiping my tears gently with my sleeve. "If you don't want me here, just stay silent and I'll take that as my cue to leave."  I wanted to be alone, but then again, I didn't.  "Alright then." He finished. I mean, his company is better than Gracie's or Grayson's. They'd only be asking questions. "That was a sucky apology." I softly stated. It was silent for a few seconds, which made me think he had left. But the I heard his chuckle, letting me know he was still here. "Yeah. I know. I'm not good at that."  I heard his boots and a few seconds later, he appeared in my line of vision. I looked up at him with some of my hair in my face. "There you are." I nodded. "Here I am." He sat beside of me and looked at me, causing me to look at him. "She told me it was my fault." I said. "What was?" "Your breakup." "Oh, nah. We've been had that coming. We're complete opposites." "Yeah, but they say opposites attract." "True, but not us. It got to the point where I was annoyed just being in her presence. I'd be annoyed when she'd kiss my cheek. I just don't like her anymore." "You used to like her?" "Yeah, well a little. I liked the s*x more." He smirked down at me, causing me to roll my eyes. "Of course. You're such a boy." "A bad boy."  I shook my head and looked back out at the view.  I noticed him pulling something out of his pocket from the corner of my eye, so I looked over at him to see him pulling out a cigarette. "I'll still throw it." I warned. He sighed and put it away, pulling out something else. It was like a cigarette, but it wasn't as long. It was brown. I think it's a blunt. "Is that a blunt?" I asked. "Yeah, wanna try it?" "No. I'm okay, thanks." He chuckled and got ready to light it but turned my way. "You're not going to throw this too, are you?" He asked. "No. I only throw cigarettes." I said, snickering. "Good." He chuckled. He lit it up and I looked back at the view. "You and that Ariana girl, are you two friends?" He asked, seriously mispronouncing Mariana's name. "Do you mean Mariana? And um, I don't know really."  Which was true. Mariana's been acting different since she met Aria and tried out for the squad.  "How don't you know?" He asked, blowing out o's. "She's been acting different." I shrugged. "How so?" "Ever since school started, we don't talk much anymore. Ever since she's met Aria, we don't talk much. Today, she looked me right in the face, and didn't say anything."  Now that I think on it, it makes me sad because we've been through and done a lot over these three months that we've know each other. "I feel you." He simply stated in a i don't want to talk about it anymore tone. I didn't say anything else. I just sat there with him as he finished his blunt.  It was somewhat peaceful.
