The Reason

Chapter Seven

After both of our dads finished their speeches, some of the omegas, who volunteered to work, brought out the food. The appetizer was brought out and everyone began eating. I looked around the room, everything looked so beautiful. With the golden decor and everyone dressed in their packed colors, I was so happy. I started eating. Is there anything that could ruin this meal? I asked myself as the soups and salads were being brought out.

Ember looked over at me, “ Have I told you how beautiful you are in that dress?” he whispered in my ear before kissing my cheek. “ I would say the same for you, you are so handsome tonight, but you're usefully pretty handsome.” I looked at him and he had a shocked expression. “Come on don't act like you didn’t know I've liked you this whole time ember.” I looked at him. “Maybe we should talk after dinner” my heart stopped but nodded and went back to eating.

As dinner came to an end, my heart was pounding. Em stood up. “ I would like to thank everyone who came to our final birthday party together, now everyone please go enjoy the festivities and have a great time.” Everyone started leaving the room, including our parents. I stood up and looked at Ember. “You wanted to talk?” I asked, looking at him. “ What is wrong with you winter?” I looked at him shocked, “W-what?” I stepped back. “ You dropped this on me as I was about to leave for this dumb alpha school. Plus, we are both seventeen, we still have to get our wolves, and then we will meet our mates. What am I supposed to reject the wolf that was made for me?” he started yelling at me. I looked him in the eyes. “ Well, no. of course not.” He stepped closer to me. “ I have loved you for so long and now. Now of all times, you tell me.” I could tell he was really mad. I backed away more. “ Ember, please calm down, I just had to tell you, alright I know your leaving. I don't know if I'll ever see you again after tomorrow and tonight was supposed to be for us.” I felt a tear leave my eye and I started to walk away. “We should head back out before they start looking for us.” I started walking faster, wiping my eyes.

“Winter wait” was the last thing I heard before the dreaded sirens started blaring. I ran towards the square, kicking my heels off. I had to get to everyone. I don't even know what is going on. When I got to the center, I felt a break in my heart. My dad and mom were lying on the ground lifeless. I ran up to their bodies that were still warm. “ Mom, Dad wake up please.” I started crying, I just fought with my best friend. Now my parents are gone. Alpha came out of the forming crowd. “Winter is so sorry dear. There was an attack and they were trying to defend Spark, Jen, and I.” I looked down and shut my parent's eyes, tears still streaming down my cheeks. “ Well, at least you are alright, Em still has y’all. Did you catch whoever did this though?” I looked at him and he just shook his head.

“I think it will be best for all the packs to go home then. I am heading to my room.” I said coldly as some worriers covered my parents. I started walking back to the pack house. Where was Em? Oh right, we just fought? I wrapped my arms around myself as I started crying. I was so alone. No one will be there for me anymore. Ember is leaving. I didn't even get to say goodbye to my parents. I started crying and fell to the ground at the packhouse's front door. I looked at my blood-stained hands. I saw my parents alive again.

“Selene, my goddess, why was it going so well now? Why my parents?” I cried to the sky. “Selene, please give me the strength I need to get over this”. I stood up and walked up to my room. I got out of the dress that was now covered in dirt, tears, and blood. I got in a steaming shower. I need to forget today. O scrubbed my body before getting out and going to my closet. The first thing I saw was Ember’s hoodie. I put on some shorts and a tank top before grabbing his hoodie and putting it on. It still smelled like him. I walked to my bed and laid down, starting to cry again. This is the most I've cried.

I sat up for a second, “ Issac!” I jumped up and looked for my phone. He was so far away that he didn't know what was going on. I found my phone on the nightstand. I wasn't able to grab it this morning. I called his number. Ring… Ring…. Ring… “This is Issac woodland. Feel free to leave a message, though I will never listen to it.” I sighed, hung up, and called again. I called him four times before he picked up.

“Gosh little sister can’t you leave me alone, I'm busy” He sounded like he had so much hatred in his voice. “Bubba” I haven’t called him that since we were little “ Please come home, I need you” I sniffled out. “Can’t you just go have what's his name, Ember, help you or know our parents” his voice laced with venom. “N-no” I started crying “ Bubba they're dead. Ember and I were fighting because he was leaving and then the sirens went off and when I reached the party mom and dad were already gone”, I cried out “ s**t sis, alright, let me see when I can leave. I'll try and be there soon,” he said, sounding sympathetic. We got off the phone and I lay down and, for the first time, I was alone and cried myself to sleep.
