C1 The Bus Breaks Down (Pt.1)
**Chapter 1: The Bus Breaks Down**
The sun hung low in the sky, casting a warm golden hue over the desolate stretch of road that snaked through the heart of nowhere. Dust kicked up from the tires of the old, rusty bus as it rattled along, an unlikely vessel for a cast of characters who had no idea their lives were about to change forever.
Inside, Sage Tamerlane leaned back in his seat, his wide-brimmed hat tilted low over his face, hiding the smirk that danced on his lips as he observed the other passengers. A group of strangers, each wrapped up in their own worlds, filled the bus. The gentle hum of the engine accompanied the faint chatter, the sporadic creaks of the bus, and the odd burp from the ice cream vendor who had just boarded with a tray of frozen treats.
Sage was a curious mix of rugged and refined, dressed in a worn leather duster that flared open at the front to reveal a tailored vest and a white shirt, grimed by the elements. His steel-gray eyes flicked to an old pocket watch, its silver casing glinting in the afternoon light. He sighed, spinning it absently in his fingers. The journey was supposed to be a simple one, a means of escape into the unknown. Little did he know, fate had a plan more elaborate than a pleasant ride through the hills.
The bus swerved slightly as it rounded a bend, startling the ice cream vendor into spilling half of his frozen stock onto the floor. "Hey! Watch it!" he exclaimed, his voice mingling with the laughter from a quirky group of college students at the back. Sage chuckled softly, and in that moment, he felt a hint of nostalgia. Road trips, laughter, the thrill of adventure; it had been a long time since he allowed himself to revel in the simple merriment of life.
Suddenly, the bus lurched violently, sending passengers tumbling into the aisles, their delighted chatter morphing into surprised shouts. Sage shot upright in his seat, instinctively gripping the armrests as the driver slammed on the brakes with a bone-jarring screech.
"What the—?" Sage muttered, his heart racing. He shot a glance at the driver, whose panicked face reflected the chaos that erupted behind him.
The bus rattled to a stop with a bitter moan, the engine sputtering before falling silent as if mourning its own demise. Sage's mind raced. A broken bus in the middle of nowhere? Not exactly the kind of adventure he had envisioned.
"Everyone remain calm!" the driver called out, his voice quavering as he clutched the steering wheel like a lifeline. "I'll just check the engine!"
With that, he opened the door and stepped outside, the humidity enveloping him like a heavy blanket. Passengers began to vocalize their frustrations, some grumbling and others complaining about their tight schedules and plans that were now thrown into disarray.
Sage stood up and moved to an open window, leaning out to get a better look at the endless horizon stretching before them. He spotted a dark silhouette on the road—a hitchhiker, no doubt a fellow traveler stranded just like him. The figure stood cloaked in a deep black uniform that flowed like shadows, their face obscured beneath a hood. The air felt different, charged with an energy that prickled at his senses.
"Hey, everyone! Check it out!" Sage called to the other passengers, pointing toward the hitchhiker. His voice cut through the grumbling, and heads turned to look.
Before any conversations could ensue, the bus door swung open again as the driver returned, his expression sheepish yet frantic. "We're gonna need to wait for assistance," he admitted, scratching the back of his head. "Best we can do is sit tight."
The discontent among the passengers grew, and Sage took it upon himself to ease the tension. He casually walked toward the hitchhiker, feeling an irresistible pull toward the figure. As he approached, the air shimmered, and the streetlights flickered overhead.
"Need a ride?" Sage asked, a relaxed smile crossing his face.
The hitchhiker remained silent, though a gloved hand gestured toward the bus. It was an invitation, albeit a mysterious one. Something told Sage that this encounter was more than just a coincidence.
Just then, Goal Kong, the towering quarterback who'd been seated near the back, stood up, muscles rippling beneath his fitted shirt. "Yo, we can't just sit here waiting to be rescued! Let's go!"
Sage turned back to the bus while reminiscing about Goal's uncanny brawn. The guy had confidence—a volatile force of nature, just waiting for an excuse to unleash his strength.
"Convenient plan!" Sage replied, raising an eyebrow. "Why don't we ask our friend here?" He motioned back to the hitchhiker, whose presence now seemed to hold an air of secrecy.
As if sensing their curiosity, the hitchhiker lifted their head ever so slightly, just enough to reveal a flash of hidden eyes beneath the shadow of the hood. Then, with a swift motion, the figure drew closer—as if gliding rather than walking. The passengers fell silent, tension thickening in the air.
An unblinking gaze fixed on Sage as they spoke without uttering a word. In a matter of moments, a small orb of shimmering light materialized above the hitchhiker's hand, weaving a mesmerizing display of colors. The passengers gasped, and Sage took a step back, his heart racing with excitement and trepidation.
"What the—?" Goal muttered, his fists clenching instinctively.
Before anyone could react, the orb pulsed with energy, growing larger and brighter until it enveloped the bus in a scintillating light.
"Hold on!" the driver shouted, but it was too late.
With a blinding flash, the world outside faded into a whirlpool of colors, and the bus began to shake violently. The seatbelts strained against the sudden force as chaos erupted once more. Screams of confusion and awe rang through the confines of the bus as the passengers were thrown together like rag dolls.
Time seemed to stretch infinitely, an exhilarating yet terrifying blend of sensations. Then, just as abruptly as it began, everything stopped.
Silence fell.
Sage opened his eyes, trying to ascertain where they had landed. Dazed and disoriented, he found himself standing on polished wood floors aboard a ship—an impressive pirate vessel adorned with majestic sails.
"Whoa… What just happened?" he muttered, glancing around at the bewildered faces of his companions. Goal, Kaze, Luna, Rex, and Zara slowly regained their bearings, confusion etched on their features.
"Was that the bus?" Luna asked, her tech gadgets whirring to life as she assessed their surroundings with wide eyes.
"We're on a pirate ship?" Rex looked incredulous, shuffling around to take in the sight of crashing waves and open sea.
Sage smirked, crossing his arms confidently. "Well, looks like we're in for one hell of an adventure!"
And with that, the saga of "Die Endreise: D Evolution" was set into motion. Each member of the squad glanced at one another, sharing a unspoken resolve. There was no turning back now—whatever lay ahead, they would face it together.
