Monike
As Miriam laughed at her thoughts, Monike scowled. “What do you mean? Get out of my head!” Miriam's laugh was increasing the pain in her head. “How are you even here? Hadn’t you crawled under some rock to save your ass?”
“Shut up, girl! I am here to help you! Liam is using you exactly like he used me. Don’t you want to know what made me leave?” Miriam sneered.
How is no one entering her room right now? Don’t nurses check regularly when the patient is serious? She thought and nodded at Miriam. Might as well hear what the b*tch had to say. What if she has a point?
“He is not my biological son. I adopted him, and gave him love and care. Gave him money and power. Do you think he could have done this all alone if he was an orphan stuck in a werewolf pack? I made him the man that he is today. Now he is after my blood.” She walked towards Monike’s bed without breaking eye contact, her eyes almost bulging out of their sockets, making her look deranged. “You think he will care for you? You are just a pawn for him. Even now when you are here, in this ICU,” she spread her hands around bringing Monike’s attention to the beeping machines attached to her body, “he is f*cking someone Ira, who is ready to spread her legs for him!” She sneered.
“You are lying! Ira has disappeared. I don’t trust you and Liam won’t cheat on me.” Monike frowned suddenly, unsure of what was going on. She still did not remember what accident had landed her in the infirmary.
“I am not! You will find out soon enough. When you do, reach out to me and I will help you.” She turned around to leave.
“Stop!” Monike shouted, and Miriam stopped in her tracks. “How will I know the truth?”
Miriam turned around with a wicked lopsided smirk. “I have lost my powers or I could have shown it to you easily. For now, you will need to wait. Ask Liam. Weren't you two getting engaged tomorrow? Where is the party?” She looked around, bringing Monike's attention back to the appearance of the place around her. “This doesn’t look like the venue where the great Monike Marshal would get engaged, does it? Kumah will know how to connect with me.” With a sneer, Miriam turned around and vanished in a poof, leaving behind a trail of mist.
Monike gasped and woke up with a start. She was flat on her bed, she looked around and there was no mist in the room. She let out a breath, knowing that she was dreaming. But what about the rest? She observed the dull room around her. It felt like a deja vu as the same feelings like the ones she just dreamt about, flooded her consciousness again.
The headache still nagged her, the intravenous was still in place and her throat felt terribly dry. So that wasn’t a dream? What was Miriam playing at? Why the hell am I here?
Nurses came scuttling into the Critical Care Unit and Monike demanded answers. Even if it was a dream, she wanted to know how she had landed in this room, in her patient gown, rather than waking up n*ked in Liam’s arms.
She asked the nurses about it but the b*tches just said that she needed to relax. She had a head injury. A f*cking head injury!
“Call the f*cking doctors now”, She screeched and the nurses rushed out of her room. F*cking dumb b*tches called themselves werewolves! Cowards!
She wanted to get off the bed, but the pain in her head was unbearable as if a hammer constantly banged inside her head trying to drive a nail into her skull.
Finally, Dr Maggie came in. The smiling face of the doctor calmed Monike a little and if she was to get any answers from this one, she would have to behave. She understood authority very well.
“Doctor, how did this happen? Why am I here? When will I get a discharge? Tomorrow is my engagement with your Alpha King.”
Maggie smiled brightly as if Monike’s world wasn’t breaking around her. “Calm down Monike. One question at a time.” She walked towards Monike’s bed and adjusted the drip in her intravenous.
“You met with an accident. I don’t know the details. You were brought in here in terrible condition. You had a head injury and you were unconscious. Our repeated MRIs showed a subdural haemorrhage that was gradually increasing. We have drilled burr holes in your scalp to reduce the pressure.” Dr Maggie filled up a syringe and injected something into the IV drip.
“YOU DID A F*CKING what to my head?” Her anger rose! They had drilled her head! Without her permission! Was her father notified?
“It was an emergency. We had to save your life! Our Alpha's command overrides any permissions.” Dr Maggie raised her voice. “I would appreciate it if you mind your language. Or you can be sent to whichever hospital you like.”
Monike controlled her anger, even though she could feel her temples throb. She knew werewolves had the best technology. “So, who can tell me more about my accident?”
“Only Liam can. Unfortunately, while he was here the whole day, you were unconscious.” Maggie checked her charts.
“So call him here now,” Monike demanded. He owed her some answers!
“Sorry, we can’t reach him. He has closed his mind link.” Maggie checked the dressing on Monike's head and took notes of the accumulated fluids. She did not look distressed, so Monike was relieved. The parameters must have been normal.
“Then call him on his cell phone!” Monike rolled her eyes. “Call him right now! I need to know what is going to happen to the engagement? And when is my dad visiting? He was supposed to fly in tomorrow morning.”
Seriously, these wolves could be so pre historic sometimes. Why not use the f*cking technology?
Maggie looked up from her charts. Her eyes glazed over showing that she was mind linking with someone. When she was done she placed the chart aside. “You won’t be able to get a discharge before 7 days. Even after that, you’d need to stay in constant touch with me. With your head injury and selective amnesia, you might have bouts of anxiety and clinical depression. I need to monitor your condition. So you might not be able to get engaged tomorrow.” Monike was going to go ballistic, but Maggie raised her hand.
Seriously! The woman should have some magic blood in her, because Monike’s words just died in her throat. “I am not done yet. I am not aware of what the Alpha’s plans are. You must speak to him. Beta Ben has been calling him on his cell phone. His phone is also switched off.”
The cell phone is also switched off? He never switched off his phone! Even when they were f*cking like bunnies. What the hell is going on? Uncontrollable anger blinded her, causing her headache to rise phenomenally.
As a nurse brought a tray of medicine and placed it in front of her, Monike swatted her hand and shove the tray aside sending it’s contents flying all over the place, messing the pristine white floor.
“I want him here! Right now! Get my phone and call my dad!” She started gasping for breath as the air felt unavailable.
She tried to get off the bed, but the nurse held her down. The machines started beeping frantically. Maggie barked orders, saying her BP had shot up. She got a syringe and pierced it into Monike's elbow. A sharp pain shot through her elbow, followed by something cool mixing into her burning vein.
“Nooooo! What the f*ck are you giving me? My dad is gonna kill you all. I… will… seee…” drowsiness took control and she slowly fell into a deep slumber.
At the back of her mind she could hear. “Don’t worry Monike. These are just pain killers and mild sedatives. These will help you unwind. You should sleep now. Liam will be here tomorrow.”
I am going to f*ck your lives you drongos… she went into sweet painless oblivion seeking the presence of Miriam. As she floated somewhere between wakefulness and sleep, mist filled into her empty room again.
She wasn't sure if it was a dream or a reality, but she was ready to give a good fight to claim what was hers.
