I stared at the latest report that had come from Tanner. He’d been undercover for almost five years now, and I hadn’t had to worry about inappropriate feelings.
However, the position in which he found himself was becoming untenable.
Malossini was becoming more and more unstable, and NS3 weren’t the only ones to have their eye on him. Noel Burdon was getting decidedly impatient at the attention Malossini was drawing toward him.
Unbeknownst to Malossini, his “cousin” Gino had been approached by Burdon. Tanner, as Gino Marrone, was now included among the men who did Burdon’s dirty work.
Tanner had a good degree of autonomy in the field, and he’d made the decision to cooperate with Burdon, the fact of which he informed me during one of the few times he’d called to check in.
