Chapter 4

When Jaxon returned to the room he was surprised to see that Nyra was still wide awake but this time she was sitting at the edge of his bed, waiting for him. “Why are you still awake? I believe the healer did a good job.” “What do you want with me?” “Remember you came to me.” Jaxon answered. “And I'm the one asking the questions while you answer or speak when you are asked to.” Even Nyra couldn't explain what came over her and why she was speaking so casually to the King. Maybe because of what the healer had told her, about being the first person the king had ever pitied and saved. “I want to know what you want to do with me.” Nyra looked up, intentionally avoiding the mean look on the King's face. “I want you, Nyra. You. Can you give me that?” Jaxon said looking at her, his eyes filled with desire and pleasure. He really didn't know when he blurted out those words but he kept his composure. He tried to sound as manly and rude as he could be but his heart was playing tricks on him. He knew it was the effect of the mate bond and he couldn't stop what he felt. “Reject me.” That single word hurt Jaxon's heart. Earlier, he heard when Nyra had told Ravenna that she didn't want to be Luna and now she was openly asking him to reject her, didn't she want him like he wanted her? Was he the only one feeling this bond between them? Unknowingly to Jaxon, Nyra couldn't control her feelings as well. She was only afraid that she had made so many enemies and didn't want Ravenna to be added to her long list of enemies. “That depends on me.” Jaxon responded. “You have no say.” “Where am I sleeping tonight?” Nyra asked, looking around. She was tired but she had noticed that there was just one big bed and Jaxon had been asking her to go to bed. “On the bed.” Alpha Jaxon responded. “Where would you sleep?” Nyra asked. “On the bed.” He said, pointing at the bed. “But there's only one bed.” Nyra's eyes widened. “I know.” He said, paying no attention to her. “We'll sleep on the same bed, afterall you are my mate. Doesn't that sound nice? “What?” Alpha Jaxon couldn't help himself. He wanted to laugh so hard but he held it in. The look on Nyra's face was very funny. “What are you thinking?” Alpha Jaxon asked. “Are you hoping that something would happen between us tonight? Something steamy.” Alpha Jaxon teased her. “Do you also want me like I want you? “I'm not thinking about anything.” She turned her back at him, she couldn't believe that her face was really red. “I'm not sleeping with you on the same bed.” Nyra couldn't believe how bold he was saying those things to her. Did he really like her? Or was this a ploy to get her comfortable around him and then throw away as trash just like the others did. Soon, there was a knock on the door and some maids came in. They carried a new bed and a stand and in minutes, they set up a new bed for Nyra. “I hope you like it. I made sure they did everything right for you.” Alpha Jaxon said. They were both standing in the corridor under the shining stars, while waiting for the maids to prepare the bed. Nyra looked up to see that Alpha Jaxon was staring down at her with those eyes of his. Eyes that told her that he wanted her, eyes that told her that he desired her. She looked away immediately. She had thought this same thought when she stared right at Alpha Drake's eyes months ago. “You didn't ask how I knew your name.” Jaxon said. “You are the king after all, so you will eventually find out, no matter what.” Nyra said, making Jaxon smile. “You don't want to know mine?” Jaxon asked but Nyra kept quiet. “My name is Jaxon.” It was a unique name, one that she hasn't heard anywhere before. Just the mention of his name and her heart was beating so fast. Maybe she needed to stop being around him. Nyra woke up hours later to find out that he wasn't in the room. She didn't feel like doing anything this morning anyway so she laid back on her back on the bed that he got for her last night. She was still wondering where Jaxon had gone when she heard a knock at the door. It was still very early in the morning, so she didn't want to open up but it was a familiar voice. One of the maids that attended to her gave her a letter before leaving. If not that she had made it clear that the letter was hers, Nyra would have kept it for the King. When she opened it, it was a letter threatening her life. The writer had promised to kill her by any means if she didn't leave the Park as soon as possible and would reveal to the world and to Alpha Jaxon that she killed her fated mate. Nyra couldn't just sit and wait for her past to catch up with her, so she decided to escape. Just then an idea struck her, it was still dark outside, the king wasn't here and no one in the park knew her face so it would be easy to escape. Without caring who it was who must have written the letter. She opened the door, walking silently, she followed two maids who were loudly chattering, knowing they were heading to the door that led outside the Palace. When she was out, she looked around for the route that would lead her to the woods. She decided to follow the path that had so many bushes as her instinct instructed. She was still running, when she heard a cry for help. “Help me..” Nyra didn't want to stop running knowing that she was still within the Lycan king's territory and could be caught but she just couldn't ignore ore the cry of a person. She searched for the female voice and found her lying down, almost dead, alone in the woods. She wished to help her but she couldn't find herbs that would heal her injury. “Please help me.. take me to Alpha Jaxon.. I'm his..”
