Chapter 1
“What.. happened here?” Nyra asked, looking around as she was surprised at how everyone had gathered around Alpha Rowoon whom she had left a few minutes ago to go check on her herbs. Looking from face to face, she could see that something was definitely wrong. People were staring at her like she had committed the greatest sin. Maybe she did. She had never imagined, even in a million years, having Alpha Drake stare at her the way he didas she made her way through the crowd that had gathered at the Alpha's Don. “The Alpha isn't breathing anymore.” “She killed him.” “She's greedy.” She wasn't sure if these were the exact words she was hearing because it was all whispers from the people there. Her hear was beating heavily even when she didn't know what had happened, she just had a bad feeling about it. On the bed, exactly how she had left him laid Alpha Rowoon, lifeless. She knew because she was a trained caretaker and has been the one caring for the man for a year after his health failed. He had been feeling better weeks ago and everyone was really happy about the development but here he was, lying dead on the same bed where he sat just a few hours ago to take his medications. “What happened to my father?” Alpha Drake looked down at his father's lifeless body and then back at Nyra, searching her eyes for answers. “I don't know what happened. I had just given him drugs and had gone to get him a change of clothes and..” Nyra's voice trailed off when she saw the anger on Alpha Derek's face. He didn't believe her even though she was his mate. She looked up to see everyone staring at her, wishing her death. She was so sure that this must have been plotted by someone who wanted the throne, someone who wanted to be the Lunq, someone who hated her so much. Since Alpha Drake had found out that she was his mate, he had treated her better than her family ever treated her. She was an Omega, a very useless one that got trashed by many people just because she was adopted into her family. She was an orphan who had no one else in the world. Her step parents only cared about her sister, Aria who was born a year after she was adopted. Nyra turned out to be a big mistake to the family as they totally ignored her after Aria was born. When she found out that she was Alpha Drake's mate, she was so glad that she was finally getting accepted by the people of Ice crest park. It was like a dream come true when it was decided that she'll get married to the Alpha and become Luna but there was a problem. Alpha Rowoon was never in support of the marriage because he believed his son shouldn't get married to an orphan. “How could you do this to me, Nyra? Why are you this heartless? I have only been kind to you even though you are literally useless to me and this is how you pay me back? By killing my father? Just because he wasn't in support of our marriage?” Alpha Drake wasn't shedding tears but Nyra could see that he was trying to be strong as the son of the Alpha and the heir to the throne. “Drake, you know that I wouldn't do such a thing to you. How could I kill my father in law? He didn't support us but I would never kill him. I'll never hurt you like that.” It didn't matter what Nyra was saying. Her newly perfect life was already coming to an end and there was nothing she could say that would change the fact that everyone present thought her to be a greedy murderer. “Don't you dare call me by my name! You already lost that right when you decided to kill my father. I'll make sure you pay with your life.” Alpha Drake was breathing loudly and was literally vibrating in anger. “No, Drake. I would never hurt the Alpha king…” “Then what's the meaning of this?” Alpha Drake screamed at her, pulling out am almost empty, small bottle. “This is wolfsbane and this was found in my father's shelve that contained his drugs.” Everyone in the room gasped in shock and so did Nyra too. She had never used or seen that bottle but she could recognize the content of it. Wolfsbane. How was that possible in the first place? What mess had she gotten herself into? She was really in trouble this time and there was no going out of it. She couldn't think of any one who hated her so much to go to this extent. She knew that she had to beg. Maybe Alpha Drake would let her go, afterall she was his mate and he loved her or so he said. “I promise..” Nyra couldn't control her tears. She went on her knees and crawled to him, not minding the whispers she was hearing from the crowd. She wasn't really surprised because none of those people really liked her. She knew that they started smiling at her only when they heard she would be Luna. “It wasn't me. I promise.” “Don't you ever call my name. You murderer!” Drake yelled at her like he never did in the past. He never even spoke to maids and guards in that manner. It was loud but most especially, It was very painful to hear a man who confessed his love for her, conclude and call her a murder without investigating the situation. Nyra prayed and hoped that the moon goddess would come help her this time but she realized she was really alone. She knew that her parents and Aria must have heard the news and would be in the crowd, critizing her the way the others were. She was really alone. “I, Alpha Drake Ashwood of Thornfield park, reject you, Nyra Frost as my mate and future Luna. I sentence you to be killed by hanging for killing the Alpha, my father.” Alpha Derek declared as Nyra looked up from where she was kneeling before him, her heart breaking into bits. Nyra couldn't believe her ears. He actually rejected her without trying to find out what happened. If he really loved her, he would have done that at the least. There was really nothing she could do as she waited for someone in the crowd to stand up for her. Her father? Her mother? Aria maybe? No one said a word instead when she looked up, she could see that underneath their serious faces was a smile. “I, Nyra Frost, accept your rejection.” Nyra responded. She was so exhausted that she couldn't move a muscle. “Take her away, she'll be hanged tomorrow.” Alpha Drake ordered and soon, strong hands were dragging Nyra to the cage where she would spend the night outside in the cold. “But first, whip her until she confesses why she killed the Alpha King.” Nyra was dragged out of the Palace, stripped and whipped like a murderer but yet she still wouldn't confess why she killed the Alpha. Nyra's body was bleeding and she wanted the pain to stop but she could never confess to something that she didn't do. After getting whipped, she was left in a cell in the cold. Her body was numb and in pain and the only presence she felt was that the rat running across the floor of the cell. They had thrown her out even without presenting her to the council to be judged accordingly. Then, she heard footsteps approaching and she prayed that it was Drake. Maybe he finally believed her, maybe she could leave this place and become his Luna like she had dreamed. The one approaching the cell wasn't the Alpha but Aria, her step sister. Nyra was so desperate she grasped the cell, standing in a matter of urgency. “Aria, help me. Help me, please…” Nyra pleaded. It was the first time ever that she was asking her sister for a favor. “Help me convince Alpha Drake, I can never kill Alpha. I would never kill my father in law.” “Awnn, that's such a pity.” Aria laughed. She had waited for everyone to leave before coming in. “You are so naive. You still address me as your sister? You think I like you?” “What do you mean?” Nyra stared in shock and thought that maybe Aria wanted to pick a fight with her. “This isn't about us, Aria. Please help me speak to the Alpha. You know that I wouldn't hurt a fly..” Aria burst out laughing and then she stood up, looking down at Nyra who then stood up also, thinking that her sister would finally listen to her. “Are you draft? Isn't it obvious what all this is about? Do I have to spell it out for you?” Aria waited for some seconds but it was of no use, Nyra had a mark of confusion on her face. “When you left the Alpha's food at the kitchen, I slipped some drops of wolfsbane in it. I would have lied that it was a mistake but it wasn't.” Nyra couldn't believe her ears. “No, you didn't. You didn't!” She screamed, hoping that Aria was playing planks on her but with the smile plastered on her face, Nyra knew that it wasn't a joke. “Why?” She asked quietly. “I want what you have. I want to be Luna, I want power. I have always wanted it but you always stood in my way.” “No, Aria, you'll walk into the Palace and you'll tell the king that you killed the Alpha and you'll have me released at once, do that at once!” Nyra ordered. She thought that if she could threaten Aria, then she might listen to her but Aria gave her cold hollow laugh. “You're such a joker. I'll make sure I take away everything that you ever desired just like you did to me, when we were growing up. I'll make sure you get punished.” Aria's heart was filled with pain and hatred. “Drake would never love you as long as I'm alive, Aria. You know that he'll see right through you…” “That is why you need to die, don't you think so?” Aria had a dirty smirk on her face. “You need to be dead so that I can live your life to the fullest.” “Don't kill me, Aria. Please, you're my sister. You can't do that. Please, listen to me, please!” Nyra was about to cry her eyes out. “If you don't want to die, then tomorrow as you're being taken away, you'll be kidn*pped by another Alpha of a Park, I'll advise that you do as you are told. Who knows, you might get a second chance at life.” Aria turned her back to her. “Goodluck, my dear sister.” Nyra fell miserably to the floor. Maybe it was really her fate to die.
