Zayde’s Point of View
The steady beeping of the monitor fades behind me as I step out of Chloe’s room, the door clicking shut.
Everyone is already on their feet when they see me. My parents, her parents, Maya, Jack, Sky, Jason, Aunt Amy, Uncle Ryan, and even my grandparents. The entire inner circle, waiting for news.
Aunt Megan is the first to speak.
“Zayde? How is Chloe? And the baby?”
She asks, her voice worried. I take a breath.
“The baby is fine, their heartbeat is strong. Doctor Tucker said that is a good sign.”
I see relief ripple through the group at the news.
“As for Chloe, they are still running tests on her. They don’t know yet why she shifted like that… or why she didn’t recognize me.”
My father frowns.
“Tell us exactly what happened.”
