"I badly need money.", Diana Norese uttered in silence.
Diana Norese is desperate in looking for a job. She needs money for her uniform, books, and tuition fees. As a senior university student, she has a lot of things to buy. The only problem is that she doesn't know where she can find the money to pay them.
Every day, the announcements keep coming that they have to pay something. Graduation pictures, graduation fees, seminars that she needs to attend, endless books. "Aaaah..', she gasped as the thought of these never-ending school bills keep on coming.
She applied for different kinds of scholarships - government, private sponsorships, and even religious scholarships name it. She has all those kinds of scholarships. But because her school bills and everyday expenses are higher than that of her scholarships, she needs another source to meet her financial troubles.
"Try to look for a tutoring gig.", said her friend Mel as they walk towards their classroom. "I heard it also pays well. With the skills that you have, your charm with kids, and your eagerness, I know you can find the perfect employer.", she continues.
"But how? I don't even know how and where to start.", Diana Norese replied.
"Try to join different f*******: groups. I know there's a lot of groups that look for private tutors.", Mel answers as she sips her cup of Starbucks hot Caramel Macchiato coffee.
"I wish I can just be as rich as you, Mel.", Diana Norese responded.
Diana Norese's best friend is Mel Rivers, a rich, tan-skinned, flawless-looking girl. She is one year younger than Diana Norese. She met her in High School at the school library when Mel asked her how to solve a Math problem. They easily got along together and eventually became friends. Mel is taking up Business Management because she will be an heir to her dad's company when she graduates. While Diana Norese is taking up Education. Not just because she wanted to be a teacher someday, but that is what her family can afford.
"I told my dad to legally adopt you so you won't have to worry about the finances.", Mel seriously utters.
Diana Norese laughed at the thought. She always hears the idea that Mel wanted her to be her legal sister and keeps on telling her dad to adopt her best friend. Her dad doesn't support the idea but agrees on giving financial support to Diana Norese. But even though there's constant support from Mel's dad, she politely declines the support at times because she thinks it's just too much.
Mel keeps on scrolling on her phone as they wait for their professor. They are classmates in one subject even though they are from different courses.
"Oh here.", Mel exclaimed.
"What's that?', Diana Norese curiously asks.
"Search this page.", Mel shows her phone to her best friend.
"'Private Freelance Tutor Hiring '. Hmm, sounds like a scam, Mel.", Diana Norese shuddered her shoulders.
"I don't think it's a scam. There are some testimonies that show they had successful clients. Look!', Mel convincingly shows the testimonies to her friend.
"Okay, then. I will try to read through it later. Sir is here.", Diana Norese entertains the idea of becoming a private tutor. She will be a teacher someday, though. Might as well practice her skills while she hasn't graduated, at the same time earning money for her expenses in school.
The school bell rang after an hour or so. She bid her friend goodbye soon after. Mel will be meeting her parents and will have fine dining for dinner. She asks Diana Norese if she wants to join them but she declines. She still has to prepare some lesson plans and prepare for her resume. She has decided to look for a client later once she goes home.
Diana Norese opens her laptop as soon as she arrives home. While her laptop is booting, she changes her clothes and grabs a bowl of cereals, and puts milk in it. She stares at her laptop and started to type in the open Word Document. She already has a template from one of her classmates and just edits it with her information.
She takes her phone and searches for the f*******: page her friend mentioned to her.
"Private... Freelance... Tutor... Hiring", she says as she types it in the search box. She tapped on 'Join' and answered some basic questions. After just a minute, her pending application to join the group has been approved. That puts a smile on her face.
As soon as she refreshes the page, a post suddenly pops in.
"LOOKING FOR A TUTOR TO TEACH 8-YEAR OLD GIRL, 2-3 HOURS A DAY, PM YOUR RATES."
Rates. She hasn't thought of that yet. She doesn't have an idea how much she would charge her clients.
But she is still decided to submit her CV. She immediately hit the 'heart' react button and commented on the post.
"Interested. Will send you a PM."
It seemed that she replied plainly.
The author of the post 'liked' her comment and she noticed that the author turned off comments to the post.
She tapped on the name of the author. 'Jackson Alonzo', she whispered.
"Hi, sir. I am interested in the job post. Although I haven't decided on the rates yet as this would be my first time to be a tutor. Rest assured, I will be able to teach my student all the knowledge she needs.", she sends in her messages with her heart beating fast. She is nervous. She prepares to send another message when she sees the other person typing a message. Suddenly, a message pops in.
"Name your price. You'll start tomorrow.", the other person replies.
"Oh, thank you, sir.", Diana Norese is delighted. She never thought of getting her first client as easy as that. She just hopes it will be a smooth sailing one so she won't have to look for another client.
"I will have to call you for the details. Are you available now?", the client replied.
"No worries sir. Yes, I am ready and I am available for a meeting.", she hurriedly replied.
Her phone rang after a minute just after she checked her face in the mirror. She puts lip tints and some powder on her face. She fixes her blouse and lifts her phone facing her face. She slid to answer the call. She blushed as soon as she saw the face on the other line. A good-looking man with a deep set of brown eyes staring at him. She didn't notice her lips were open as she stares at the man.
"Hello, miss. Are you okay?", the man curiously asks.
"Y-y-yes, sir. I am okay.", Diana Norese stuttered as she still can't believe the sight she is looking into at the moment.
"Okay, then. My daughter is 8 years old and I want you to teach her Reading, Math, and Filipino. You will be working 3 hours a day, three times a week, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Would that be fine?", her client asks.
"Yes sir, that is fine with me. It matches my schedule actually.", Diana Norese smiles.
"That's perfect then. You said you don't have any experience in teaching. Are you sure you can handle?", her client raises her thick eyebrows as he asks Diana Norese.
"I can definitely handle it, sir. I am a senior Education student. I have the skills and I have done teaching demonstrations in school. I just don't have experience in being a private tutor. I am one of the top students in class, so I can assure you your daughter is in the right hands.", Diana Norese confidently says.
"If you say so. Let's see how far you will go. I will send you the address. By the way, you will get your first pay on the first day. That should cover the whole week. Send me your details so I can send the money by tomorrow. I will hang up now.", the client responded.
"Okay, sir. Thank you. I will do my...", she wasn't able to finish her sentence when her client hang up on her.
"Yeeeeaaaahh!!!! Whoooh!", she exclaims in astonishment. Her heart is raging fast because of the excitement she feels. Suddenly, her heart went beating faster when she remembers the eye of the client she spoke to. It's as if it is hypnotizing her. But she isn't frightened at all.
