CHAPTER 8

"Violet's story and your theory seem ridiculous" "How do you mean?" I asked. "I worked with them and they're humans. Why would they want to destroy earth" "Power maybe" Violet said. That was the first thing she had said since the big reveal. This must be hard for her. What her parents died for had been created. "Power could work. But why would they destroy earth if they wanted power. There would be no one to rule if earth is destroyed" Adam quipped. "Then maybe they don't want to destroy earth. They want to destroy a part and leave the rest or...." I tried to reason. "Or maybe they want to take over earth" Adam interrupted. Violet hummed in approval. "We have to stop them" Adam laughed loudly. Did I say something wrong? He laughed so hard he fell of the chair, clutching his stomach. "We? You can barely defend yourself" I scowled at him. "Not funny" "That is why I am going to train you. Teach you how to defend yourself and maybe unlock the power of the pyramid" Violet said. "There's power in the pyramid?" "Ummm..... I guess so. The.. um... Pyramid must have some kind of power if they plan on using it to power a ship." She answered. "You are right" I said. I tapped my fingers on the red diamond on my chest and felt a flicker of electricity on my fingers then it disappeared. Violet went to work setting up a dummy and Adam sharpened sticks. I really did not want to learn how to fight or shoot or hurt anybody but I had to suck it up and learn or I and a greater part of the world could die. "Come on" I followed Violet outside to where the dummy stood. "Hit it" "Like a punch? Do I make it very hard or?" "Like this" she threw a hard punch and the dummy moved back from her force and I winced imagining it was an actual human she hit. It was my turn now. I folded my fists and threw a punch. "Not bad. Keep doing that" I continued to throw punches at the dummy until sundown. My muscles were kind of sore and I was tired. I wolfed down the soup Adam made and went to shower before I slumped tiredly on the bed. The next day, we continued training and I was getting a bit better at defending myself. Adam continued going over his old notes to figure out how the spaceship could be destroyed and if there was anything about the pyramid mentioned there. Violet and Adam are still not okay with each other. They don't trust each other and it was really getting frustrating. If we had to work together there had to be trust. There was no other attack from ODE and we were doing just fine. Except, the more time I spent with Violet, the more I was attracted to her. She really intrigued me and my heart ran a thousand miles each time she spoke to me. It was different from what I felt with Cherry. I did like Cherry but I wanted her more because I didn't want to be alone and she was the first girl to ever go out with me. She was safe. But with Violet I strongly feel for her. She was pretty and brave and strong and I sometimes got an erection from inhaling her sweet feminine scent. The soft fragrance was a contrast to her hard personality. I watched her as she punched the dummy. Sweat pouring down her body as she took out her fury on the dummy. I understood her anger. Her parents died trying to prevent this spaceship from being built and now it existed. She must feel the need to make sure that the spaceship is destroyed. "You are really interested in her" Adam said from behind me. I turned sharply putting my hands on my chest. I didn't know he was so close behind me so I was momentarily shocked when I heard his voice. "Interested in who?" I asked feigning ignorance. "The furious witch" "You shouldn't be calling her that" He shrugged. "I don't trust her. You shouldn't either" "She saved my life" He nodded. "Indeed. She must have her reasons. I know what I saw and I remember seeing her with them at ODE. She is definitely hiding something" "I don't think she will go through all this is if she is indeed working with ODE" "Not of she is hoping to achieve or get something from you" "Do you mean the pyramid? She didn't even know about it until recently. And it's within me, she can't just get it like that" "Not if she kills you. And what better way than getting close to you and gaining your trust" "I think you misunderstand her" "Whatever you think, you have to be careful. You shouldn't trust anyone, not me and not someone who shows up right as soon as all this started" I looked back outside, she was no longer punching the dummy. She was sitting on the ground, her back resting against the wall. She took a large swig of water from the bottle as her chest rise and fell with her hard breathing. Maybe Adam was right and she had something to gain and maybe he was wrong. Whichever way, I should take his advice and trust no one. It was hard to anyways, she had risked her life in saving mine. Why save me if she was going to end up killing me. She didn't look like someone who would waste time in getting what she wanted. She was more like a get in, do it and get out kind of person. Not someone who would drag things out. She stood up from the ground and tossed the water bottle aside. I admired her as she stretches out her muscles. She turned and her eyes caught mine. I stood frozen, unable to look away until she turned and moved into the forest.
