CRASH

CHAPTER 5

"Who is there?" No reply but the footsteps stopped.

"I have a very deadly weapon here" still nothing. Maybe it was Violet. She changed her mind and came back for me.

"Violet. Is that you?"

A hand clamped on my shoulder from behind and I squealed and jumped away in fright landing face front on the floor.

I could hear laughter and I became annoyed. The laugh wasn't feminine though. A flashlight came on pointing directly to my face and I used my hand to block the light.

It moved away from my face and down.

"Here" he held out his hands and lifted me up.

"I'm Adam"

"I'm Crash" he chuckled. I did expect him to laugh at my name.

"For such a manly man, you squeal like a little girl" he said still laughing.

"Not funny. Why would you scare a person like that"

"This forest is usually empty. I could hear your loud snores from miles away. I decided to find you before those ODE thugs did"

"You know about ODE?"

"Yes. I worked for them a while ago"

"Stay the f**k away from me. Did they send you to kill me" I moved back quickly.

"I stopped working for them a while ago. They fired me"

"Why?"

"You better sit down for this one" I sat down while he built a fire. He joined me minutes later.

"I designed their spaceships for over three years. The rule was to do your work. No questions asked. I enjoyed my job and it paid well until I was asked to build a different kind of spaceship. It was bigger, expected to be faster and looked more destructive than the others. Worst part, it wasn't supposed to be fuelled and it wasn't going to space. I started asking questions and doing my own research. What I was building was no ordinary spaceship. It looked like a battle weapon"

"Then I overheard them talking about a kind of rock that has enough voltage to power the ship and destroy earth three times. I reported to my superior and the next day I was fired. I wasn't allowed to take a single thing out with me and I was threatened to be killed alongside my family if I ever mentioned anything I saw or heard. That was six months ago"

"What happened to the spaceship?"

"I don't know. I followed their guards for a while. They seemed to be searching for something. I don't know what it is. But after a while, they stopped. Then two nights ago after that blackout, they resurfaced. I have been following them ever since. I want to know what they're after"

He looked at me. "And you? How do you know them?"

"I don't. They showed up at my place the morning after the blackout and they've been trying to kill me since"

"That's weird. And you don't know why?"

"Not a f*****g clue"

"You gotta be careful. They're dangerous. And you don't look like you can protect yourself one bit"

"Rub that in my face will you" he chuckled.

"Let's get some sleep" I rested against a tree again but I felt warmer"

Sunlight danced ony face and the birds where chirping until I heard someone land on the tree close by.

I opened my eyes quickly I'm fright expecting to see ODE guards everywhere. Instead it was Adam and Violet fighting.

"Violet stop" she looked between me and a groaning Adam who lay on the floor. I went over to him and held out my hand. He clasped it tightly as I helped him up.

"You know him" it wasn't a question but I nodded anyways.

"That's Adam. He's a friend. He knows a lot about ODE"

"Does he now?"

"Yes. He worked for them"

"And you trust him? That's f*****g stupid"

"Is trusting you also stupid because I don't know who you work for?"

"Fair. But I saved your life"

"And he has information"

Adam moved forward looking at her.

"You look familiar. Have me met before?"

"I haven't been given the displeasure of meeting you before"

"You never worked for ODE?" She fisted his shirt in her hands and shouted at him.

"Associate me with those bastards one more time and I'll f*****g break your neck"

"Okay okay" Adam raised his hand in surrender and moved away.

"You came back Violet. I'm still not killing anybody"

"It's not like I have a choice. I have orders to make sure ODE doesn't get their hands on you. And you don't have to kill. Learn how to defend yourself or you'll end up dead before ODE even get their hands on you"

"I agree with the sexy ice Queen on this one" she shot him a glare and he chuckled.

"Fine. Let's all go"

"All? I'm not taking that s**t along with me"

"He has information. We can't leave him behind"

"I can't stand him"

"Or you can't stand all this hotness?" He chuckled. I groaned.

She looked at me with see what I mean eyes.

"Please you two will have to get along. Adam keep your comments to yourself and Violet will not bring you bodily harm"

"I can't help it" Adam said.

"Then be ready to lose your tongue" she retorted.

"Geez. That's gory. Note to self avoid the evil sexy ice Queen and you won't lose your tongue"

She ignored him as she moved forward and we followed behind her.

Adam slowed me down with his hand ony arms.

"How well do you know her?"

"She showed up on the day they came after me and saved my life. Has been saving my life"

"I don't trust her. I think I've seen her in ODE building and her name doesn't help matters"

"Violet is a common name. Doesn't mean anything. Plus she offers her protection and saved my life twice. I think she's gained some of my trust"

He nodded. "Fair enough. Be careful though"

"You slugs walk a bit faster. I don't have all day to spend in this rotten forest" Violet shouted annoyed.

"Yes ma'am" we chorused and chuckled after.
