CRASH

CHAPTER 6

Violet's truck was parked by the road. We got in and she continued driving. Adam chewed on his snacks loudly while I sat silently at the front.

"What's wrong?" Violet asjed. It took me a while to realise she was talking to me.

I shrugged. "This whole thing"

"It's a bit too much to take in"

"I just want to go back to my normal life where I had a job and Cherry stuck around"

"Who is Cherry?" Adam asked from the backseat.

"My ex girlfriend" I said silently.

"She left you? Damn if I had a body like that, girls would be running after me"

"I didn't always look like this" I said.

"Yeah right. And what? You suddenly changed overnight" he laughed.

"Actually. I changed overnight. I fell asleep chubby and I woke up ripped"

"I wish that could happen to me" Adam said.

Violet's eyes were on me. I arched my brow and she turned away.

I continued watching the road silently until we pulled up in an old cabin. We got down from the truck and followed Violet inside.

She opened the door and we entered inside. She pulled the blinds open as she went further into the room.

"Ice queen. You sure this is an old cabin. It seems it was prepared for our arrival"

Violet turned angrily and walked to him until she was taking to his face.

"What are you insinuating?"

"Guys please. Let's not do this now" I tried to interfere.

"That you're not telling us something" Adam ignored me and continued.

"I've told you all you need to know. If you don't trust me then get the f**k out"

"So you could hand over Crash to whoever you work with. ODE?"

She punched him squarely in the face. He held his bloody mouth and chuckled.

"Did I hit a nerve?"

"Adam stop" I shouted at him.

"Don't you ever associate me with those degenerates you f*****g bastard" she stormed of angrily.

"You need to stop doing that"

"Doing what?"

"We're supposed to be a team. Us against ODE" he shrugged and sat on the couch holding his jaw.

I must say this place was indeed prepared. Must be her bosses. I looked through the blinds to see if she was coming back but she wasn't.

We didn't see her till nightfall.

"Violet is not yet back" I said for the fifth time.

"She's a bad b***h. She can handle herself"

"What if she's in some kind of danger?"

"Then what? You want to save her?"

"She saved my life"

"Well then. Go ahead and save her. I'm not moving an inch. She screams suspicious. Could be a trap"

"Yet you're staying in a shelter she provided. This could also be a trap"

"That's why I'll be sleeping with one eye open"

"You're being an ungrateful s**t. You don't trust her, you leave and if you want to stick around keep your insults to yourself" I said angrily.

"Chill man. Okay I might be acting like a d**k and I'm sorry. I shouldn't be ungrateful" he apologized.

"Don't apologize to me. Apologize to her when she gets back" the door opened and Violet walked inside.

"Where have you been. I thought something happened to you"

"I took a stroll" Adam snorted.

I glared at him and he groaned.

"I'm sorry for being ungrateful and the insults but I can't be sorry for not trusting you" was that even a proper apology?

"Now please where can I lay my head. O ye queen of Ice" she ignored him and moved inside.

"Really?" I looked at him.

"What I apologized. She's being rude by not accepting it"

We followed her through the hallway and she stopped at a room.

"You will share this room. I'll take the other" she moved away.

We entered the room and Adam slumped on the bed.

I sat by the window silently for a while as he got ready for bed. I went into the bathroom and took a bath, scrubbing days of dirt and grime from my body.

I found some spare clothes in the cupboard and wore them. They were a bit tight but they'll have to do. I didn't have any other clothes.

I lay beside Adam as he snored. I couldn't sleep. I turned and tossed on the bed for a while. I sighed and stood up.

The door creaked as I opened it. My footsteps quiet as I walked through the hallway.

I went through the living room and into the kitchen. Violet sat with a drink on the counter.

"You're not asleep?" I asked. She didn't respond. Just kept sipping her drink like I wasn't there.

"Um... Well I couldn't sleep either" no response.

"It's a long night" still nothing. Okay. It was clear she didn't want to talk. I stood up to leave.

"I'm just going to..... Umm..... go to bed"

"Do you trust me?" I turned back at her question.

"Yes. I do. You saved my life twice"

"And what your friend says about me doesn't bother you?"

"I met Adam just yesterday. He's basically a stranger. It'll be stupid to believe him over you. But I've heard his story, he wants to take down ODE as much as your bosses want to. You can be allies. I saw the way you sparked at the mention of being associated with them"

She nodded. "You're right for one. I hate them. They killed my parents"

"You don't have to tell me"

"No. I want to. They worked for them for as long as I can remember. I used to visit there as a child. They were so close. One day I heard an argument between my parents. They were asked to build something. I don't know what it was but papa was strongly against it. Mama tried to reason with him but he wouldn't hear. He said it'll be the end of us all. He quit his job. Then they came to the house. I was hiding in the hallway. They threatened to kill mama to make papa change his mind. When he didn't budge, they killed her and shot him"

"That's very sad. Do you know what they asked them to build?"

"Some kind of spaceship"

A spaceship?

"That must be the same one Adam built and was kicked out for when he started asking questions" I said.

"We need to find out what that spaceship does and how it's connected to you"
