The Dream
I let out a thoughtless sigh as watched the light danced across the lake making the peaceful blue water glisten invitingly. A small warm breeze sweeping through my long hair warming my pale skin. The breeze whistles softly through the surrounding trees encasing the small enchanting lake acting as their very own wind chimes creating their own subtle music in the wind, however the relaxing sound of the lake where cut short by the sudden softly rustling of leaves on the forest floor as a strangely familiar set of footsteps approached, the frame of a tall dark haired man comes into view at the other side of the lake. His green eyes bright like emeralds shinning in the light darting through the trees. He stares at me, studying me for a few moments before he beckons me over by holding his hand out over the water. I stare back trying to figure out why he looked so familiar, why he was beckoning me over the lake. A warm feeling spread through my body, almost like a warm embrace engulfing my small body as I suddenly feel the urge to move towards him, as my feet move on the own slowly slipping into the cool water towards the strange yet familiar man through the glistening lake. I feel the soft moss turn to rounded stones beneath my feet as my body is pulled further and further into the lake. My body submerged to my chest. The cool water sending ripples of Goosebumps through my skin. It feels like an eternity for me to reach the middle of the lake before me feet can no longer touch the lakes rocky floors. I look up towards the familiar gaze of those emerald eyes. His dark hair and lightly freckled face were so enchanting. I felt the pull once again. My feet slipped of the off the edge and my body submerging itself in water. I struggling to float back to the surface my hands clawing at the stand of light penetrating the water’s surface as if with one touch I could grasp the stands to pull me back. Back to the beautiful emerald eyes. I take my last breath gasping for life as everything turns black.
My eyes open is a flash as a layer of cold sweat clings to my slim frame as I gasp for air. Again! The same dream the same man the same ending. These recurring nightmares have been haunting me for a full week now! I swept my short fringe back away from my forehead. I was drenched in sweat as if I had been submerged into the lake in person. I turned over and groan as I look at the small digital clock on the bedside table. 5:55. Two hours before the torturous alarm should ring, i try to cuddle myself back into my duvet up but a small shiver runs down my spine as the cold sets on from the sweat soaking into my t-shirt. Signing as I get out my bed and head to the bathroom for a quick shower. I tiptoe down the stairs careful not wake my parents. As I let the warm water rush over my body, I couldn’t help but think about that dream again. It wasn’t the first time I had had that dream; I was sure of it. Those green eyes! I must have met him somewhere. They do say you dream of people you have met throughout your life, even if you have only passed them by in the street. But surely, I would remember a man that good looking? Those green eyes those dark features he was beautifully built, almost as he was sculpted by the gods themselves.
I sighed shutting the water off grabbing my towel and shuffling back to my room. Drying of and picked up white t, black leggings and pinned my curly strawberry blond hair into a damp bun at the top of my head. Staring at the reflection in the mirror, I looked tired. My restless sleep showed on my pale skin. My grey blue eyes looked a storm with the delightful dark halos rimming them with tiredness. I slap on a layer of concealer and mascara to make my appearance look more alive as I grabbed my backpack and headed down the stairs to grab breakfast.
A loud pop made me lose my footing at the last step as stumbled to the floor. Confetti colourfully floating in the air, “Happy birthday Elara!” my parents sang as I stared at them from the floor. I had totally forgotten it was my birthday. Between the surreal drowning dream and my god early wake up it actually hadn’t occurred to me what day it was.
My dad chuckled as he offered his hand helping me off the floor. “Sorry sweetheart, we didn’t expect you to be so surprised.” he wrapped his arms around my shoulders squeezing me with his daddy bear hug. I giggled as he lifts me in the air my small frame is nothing to my giant dad. 5f 4 against 6f 3 really is like bear hugging a bear cub. As he put me down my mum grabs my hand dragging me towards the kitchen table, a white and pink iced cake with a single candle burning brightly in the centre catches my attention. “Quick Elara make a wish before the candle wax gets all over the icing! ” she squeals. she had loved the wishing tradition since I was little so I indulge her superstitions and close my eyes make a wish and I blow out the candle and I hear her cheering behind me. I turn round to her and gave her a smile. “Thank you, mum,” I say as she cups my cheeks in her hand. “My beautiful girl is now officially 18!” her face beaming with pride. “Now go, go or you will be late for your last week of class! But be back sharp after cheerleading practice okay! we have alot to talk about now that your of age ! and of course.... a party tonight!” shoving me through the corridor to the door. My dad quickly handing me a small bag while mouthing CAKE. He knows exactly how my mum is in the morning and thought ahead.I chuckle and head out the door.
