I woke up wanting to be sick! What on earth was that Goddess awful smell??? "Margo? Are you cooking off meat?" I linked to her while putting my head between my knees trying to keep the nausea at bay. "No? Just our regular breakfast sausages... oh! I got a different flavour! These ones have honey in them. Oh sweetie! They not agreeing with you?" "Seems like it." I groaned. "Wait! You can smell them on the 4th floor? Ohmygoddess! That's an impressive range of smell! "I'm not impressed" I griped. "Sorry darlin' I promise next time I'll stick to the normal flavoured ones. We just have to get through the 20kg of this lot first." I think I'll go into my office for a bit and wait for that horrid smell to disperse before I head down to the dining room. I turned on my computer and decided to look up aniseed candles. Oh! what about a room spray? I ordered a few nice sounding smelly things. It's been a while since I checked in on Werebook. I'd better change my relationship status to it's complicated. After all having a dead partner complicates things! I didn't want to put unmated because I wasn't unmated. *sigh* I logged out of my personal account and logged back in the New Moon pack account. Unread messages? I clicked on them and read through message after message of condolences. I replied to each one thanking them for their kindness and support during this difficult time. Then I came across some hate messages. I clicked on the profiles of the senders of those ones, but the accounts seemed to be inactive or fake accounts, so I blocked and deleted them. I was so engrossed in what I was doing the knock at the door startled me. "Come in!" Stella popped her head in. " I brought you coffee!" "I love you! Gimme gimme!" I reached out to her with grabby hands. Stella laughed and handed it to me. "Margo told me why you didn't go to breakfast. Those honey sausages were amazing!" I made gag faces at her. "Do you know if any of our Omegas or Juniors are interested in computers?" "Uh, no. Wouldn't have a clue" "I need some breakfast. are you going to be available in an hour? I want a meeting about the rogue that came onto our territory yesterday." "I'll come keep you company while you eat" Stella said. I grabbed some breakfast and linked Ben, MeiLee, Mike and Verona to meet me in the office ASAP. "So, you're avoiding Derryk?" Stella asked in mind link so we didn't get overheard by anyone. Hello super wolf hearing! "Meh, not intentionally. He's not here long. I'm sure I'll see him before he leaves. Hopefully by then he'll get over it and be fun Derryk again instead of d**k Derryk ." I put my plate in the kitchen and headed back to the office with Stella at my heels. While I was waiting I decided to call Dad. "Hey Adiera! How's things?" "Hey Dad! Everything is good. I want to ask you about the Jade eye pack, and Alpha James Manning, do you know him? "Yeah. I know him, but I don't have a lot to do with him. Hang on, I'm going to put you on speaker so Zane can hear this too. I'm at the pack house hanging out while your mother is busy with Kayla." "Hey Adiera!" Zane's voice came through on the phone. All my ranked members filed into the office and I waved for them to sit down. "Hey Zane! So, we had a rogue come onto our territory last night. A 17 year old kid named Ollie from the Jade eye pack. His Dad's a warrior who beat on him when he found out he's gay, so he took off." Zane put his hand up to interrupt, "That's a long way to run! 17? Did he shift?" "He did! His wolf came forward early, but it was his reaction when he realised I was the Alpha, that I want to talk to you about. So apparently, according to what his Dad said, they have plans to challenge me for my pack, him and his ranked buddies until I lose or submit. Sooo, I'm just trying to figure out what type of person he is." Dad sneered. "He doesn't allow the women in his pack to train. Says women are a hindrance and a distraction on the field." Verona snorted beside me. "Who's that with you Adiera?" "Mike found his mate!" I said in a happy sing-song voice. I brought the screen around to include Verona in the shot. "This is Verona..." "Sparks!" finished Zane. "You're Mike's mate? Congratulations!" I passed Verona the phone. "Naw! Thanks Zane! Hello Alpha Phillip! It's been a while since I saw you both at the capital!" Mike growled from beside Verona obviously because of the first name basis familiarity. I bet he thought they must have had a thing between them. "Oh hush you! We trained together. That's. All." "What are you doing there?" asked Zane. "Well, I came to teach classes on self defense ... but I got a bit distracted." Verona smiled adoringly at Mike. "So, King Xander needs to find a replacement then?" Dad smiled at her. "I'm still deciding... but it's looking that way!" Verona smiled at me. "Getting back on topic," I took the phone back from Verona, "does Alpha James have any besties/cronies that I should be aware of?" I asked Dad. "Alpha David looked up to him. It's hard to say if Alpha Donald is going to follow the same path. Maybe after seeing what happened to him, it may have changed his mind, or he could also believe if he challenged Gus properly you'd already be part of his pack." He shrugged. "Goddess only knows. Alpha Jason Walters of the Azure Sky pack is his closest neighbour, and is very good friends with Alpha James." "There could be more." Zane added. "I think we should be very observant at the Meeting of the Alphas." "Agreed", Ben stated. "Alpha Samuel Warrick of the Rocky Ridge pack was happily chatting with him at the last Alpha meeting." "Nice Ben. In fact, I think it may be a good idea that you and MeiLee, check into the hotel the night before, to keep an ear out and an eye on things. Eat at the restaurant, drink at the bar. Tab's on me of course." Ben inclined his head to me. "Thank you boss", he smirked and I smirked back at him playfully. I also sent MeiLee a wink. Zane sat up straighter in his chair. "Good idea Sis! Julius? Would you like to also like to chill at the hotel the night before? I'm sure Lexi would love a night out. You can catch up with Ben and maybe have a double date?!" Julius answered from in the background, "Sounds good Zane! Ben? I'll call you once we're finished here, We'll co-ordinate floors and rooms!" Ben had a big grin on his face. "Roger that Julius!" "I need to find a new head warrior ASAP. There's no way I'm risking my pregnancy to duel some medieval thinking fucktardians." "How are you planning on recruiting a head warrior?" Zane enquired. "Don't laugh, but I was planning on using Werebook. I thought too, when Verona calls home I could talk to King Xander about it as well, so I could maybe get some recommendations and perhaps spread the word? Then any interested parties we can interview online and meet in person to find a good fit." "That's not actually a bad idea, on both fronts." He rubbed his chin. "If you have too many good ones to chose from you could always make it a competition. Last man standing wins." "Or woman", added Stella. "Of course." Zane waved his hand dismissively. "Let me know how it goes. Are you going to write the post yourself?" "I'm hoping to recruit a tech savvy helper." "Feel free to send it to me for a second opinion," offered Zane "Will do. Thanks for your help guys. Enjoy your weekend." We said out goodbyes and we hung up. Ben excused himself to catch up with Julius to book some rooms at the hotel we had the meeting at. I was hoping most would travel on the day and stay that night, counting on the night before being less booked. As it was close to our territories, only a 2 hour drive, 3 for Zane, meaning we didn't need to stay over night. "Want to call your boss now?" I smiled at Varona. "No!" She laughed. "Okay, well I'll call him and you can jump in if you want to." "Hello Alpha Adiera! You caught me just in time! I was about to leave for the day." "Hopefully I won't take too much of your time your majesty. It has come to my attention I am in need of a new head warrior. I'd like to ask for your recommendations as to how to go about it." "I could include it in the capital newsletter? It gets posted online as well as distributed." "Oh! Could you include; for more details follow the New moon pack Werebook page, please?" "Werebook you say? Good thinking Adiera. Hopefully most wolves are online or follow social media. What about Photogram or Tweeter?" "Yeah, that's beyond me I'm afraid." I answered honestly. "All good. I'll get my kids to do it for me to link back to your page. They are Teenagers so they know all about internet stuff." "Sounds good. Thank you your Majesty." "Obviously this needs to be done, but I'm sensing there's more to it?" "You're very perceptive," I narrowed my eyes at him. He shrugged. "You need to be as King." "Before I get into that, I would like to ask your professional opinion on what I should do. I'm in a delicate situation with a minor. He stumbled across my territory and I am offering him sanctuary. He was attacked by his own father because his s****l preferences weren't in line with his own." "Have you contacted his Alpha, to corroborate his story?" "Ah, that's where it becomes complicated. When he found out that I was the Alpha, he told me his Dad had been talking about the ranked members challenging me one after the other until I lose or submit. " I sighed. "I don't want to risk Gus' pup, and I know the further along in my pregnancy I am, the greater the risk of complications. So, this is why I'm on the hunt for a new head warrior. To be my chosen fighter, to keep my baby safe." My voice took on a hard edge to it, "It would be easier if I wasn't pregnant so I could just beat them myself." "That's a lot to take in. is the young man there? can I ask him some questions?" "Liam? are you with Ollie?" "Yes Alpha I am." "Can you bring him up to my office please?" "Sure thing. we'll come up now." "I've just mind linked one of my juniors to bring him up." There was a knock on the door. "Come in!" Both boys were there. "Liam, it's up to you if you stay or go, but if you're staying please close the door and take a seat." He closed the door and sat quietly. "Ollie? I'm on the phone with someone that wants to help but needs some more information." Ollie nodded, then sat beside me at my desk. He gasped when he saw who was on the screen. "Hello Ollie! I'm Alpha King Xander. I'd like to ask you a few questions about what's been happening to try and help you out." Ollie nodded with wide eyes. "Yes Sir, I mean your Majesty." "First of all young man, I'm sorry this has happened to you. It's not a pleasant situation to find yourself in. Second of all, would it be okay to contact your Alpha..?" Ollie whimpered beside me. I put a hand on his back in comfort. "I'm guessing that's a no?" Ollie took a deep breath in and out to steady himself. "Alpha James is open about disliking homosexual wolves. He is constantly using slurs when referencing them. So, I know there wouldn't be any point going to him after my Dad attacked me, and if I stayed with anyone else I know he'd just find me, and it would continue, so that's why I ran away." He lowered his head. "I see. Alpha Adiera? Are you happy to offer sanctuary to this wolf? He is a minor so technically we need either his Dad's or Alpha's permission, but in the case of physical abuse, I can intervene and petition on his behalf." I turned to look at Ollie. "Would you like to stay here and join our New Moon pack? We will protect you, and take care of you." Ollie looked up at me. "You'd do that for me?" "Of course I would. What type of Alpha would I be if I turned away a wolf in distress?" "Yes! I'd love to join your pack." Ollie smiled at me with wet eyes. "Awesome." Xander said, "I'll have to get started on that and send the paperwork through to make it official. Now, about the threats made about Adiera. Did you ever hear that your Alpha was involved in the discussions?" "I didn't hear his name mentioned Sir." Ollie lowered his head, then raised it again quickly. "Your Majesty, only Alpha's can challenge other Alpha's for their territories, yes?" "Correct." "My Alpha is unmated, so it was my assumption that the discussion originated from Alpha James, and his other Alpha allies." "I too believe it would be a fair assumption." King Xander said. "First things first Adiera. Get yourself a new head warrior. Hopefully after the first challenger gets sent home with his tail tucked between his legs the others will think twice about challenging you again." Verona coughed beside me. "There is one more thing that I need to, I mean, Verona needs to tell you." I passed the tablet to Verona. "Hey Xander!" "Hi Verona! Everything going Okay?" "Better than Okay!" Verona giggled. "I found my mate!" "Congratulations. You suck." Verona laughed loudly at that. "Naw! Don't be like that! I'm sure you've got a list of people lined up for my job!" "You know I do, but we like you! Natalie is going to be upset you're leaving!" "You can tell your fabulous wife that I'll catch up with her when I come back for my stuff! I'll even bring Mike so you can meet him." "You'd better be planning to stay a couple of days. You know Nat likes to get on the drinks to celebrate." "Yes, and yes! I'll let you know when." They said their goodbyes and hung up. "We'll have a ceremony when you return so you can mind link your friends while you're there." I said to Verona. "Thanks Adiera. I appreciate that." Verona and Mike headed out so I was left in the office with Stella, Liam and Ollie. "Liam, who would be the best person to talk to about tech stuff? I need someone to work close with me on social media stuff, but I want cameras and things set up down the track too. Oh! Can you spread the word too, I need an assistant." "What do you need to put on social media?" Liam asked me. "I need a head warrior. So, I was going to advertise it as a position vacant on Werebook." Liam looked at Ollie, "we can sort that out for you easy!" Olive nodded. "Sweet! I need to take photos of the head warriors apartment to go with it." My stomach growled loudly. I laughed. "Want to throw around some ideas and we can meet up tomorrow when it suits you guys and we'll put it all together?" "Sure thing Alpha." I turned to Stella, "let's go get some lunch! I'm starving!" We headed down to the dining room. I didn't waste any time and grabbed a plate to help myself. "Ohmygosh Margo this looks so good!" "I thought I'd make it up to you after you couldn't eat breakfast." She winked at me. I piled my plate with lesagne, salad and garlic bread. I dug in famished. Stella soon joined me. "Definitely made up for the sausages Margo. This is delicious! Thank you." I linked her eating happily. "Most welcome sweetie!" "Is this seat taken?" I looked up to find Derryk at the table. "Nope. All yours." I waved at him. "I'm sure I've gained weight with your awesome chef's cooking." Derryk moaned happily while stuffing lesagne in his mouth. "Red lentils." I said to him. "What?" Derryk looked at me confused. "Red lentils. A while back we had a dilemma about buying the lower grade or the better quality mince. I suggested we buy the better quality and thin it out using red lentils. Gus, Ben and Mike all scoffed at the suggestion and said there's no way that less meat would work as well. So, Margo and I tested out the theory. They didn't even noticed a difference, except for the lower budget, so we kept doing it. Less fat and more natural protein." "We got proven wrong and we didn't even know it!" Ben quipped with a smile joining us with MeiLee in tow. "In fact, when we have food now anywhere else, it doesn't taste as good," added Mike joining us with Verona. Verona looked through her meal, picked out some of the lentils and chewed them by themselves, then grabbed a fork full and shoved it in her mouth chewing happily. "I wouldn't have even known if you didn't tell me!" "Good huh?" I said between bites. "I'll have to tell Queen Natalie! I'm sure she'd love to know, with their food bill being so high!" "Go ahead! I came across the idea when it was delivered to us in an order by accident!" Mum had a fit! I convinced her to add it to the taco mince one night, and it turned out great!" "We still use it in tacos back home," said Derryk, "but I didn't realise you added it to every mince dish!" "Yep. Better for the budget without losing quality." I suddenly felt tired. A yawn escaped me. "I'm going to go on the bed guys. Will catch up with you all later." I dropped off my plate to the kitchen, thanked the kitchen staff for a lovely lunch then headed upstairs for a nap. Making a pup was exhausting!
