Mate
I rubbed my hands together in nervousness, all my life I have prepared for this day... But still, I couldn't relieve my self of the knots In my stomach and the slight weakness I felt due to anxiety. My mother, queen of pentacues came in. I knew she felt sorry that I was going to marry a man I haven't even met, I would be spending the rest of my life with someone I only knew his name through rumours. She could only hug me and pass me a comforting smile, which I returned. Ever since I was six, I learned of my fate, no, the fate of princesses. We had no say in our marriages and are mostly married off for power. Just like I was right now. My father, king of pentacues was marrying me off today. He viewed me as only a tool to gain power. Mother had only told me to pray to meet the right husband. It's what I have been doing. I blocked off all my negative thoughts and just studied myself in the mirror. My court maidens spent hours doing my make up and another hour fitting me into the white gown I was wearing. It was beautiful, but inside, I only felt the suffocation of how tight it was, but then I was prepared. I tried to portray a smile but I failed. A knock interrupted my thoughts and a maid came in shortly. "It's time my lady" Taking a deep breath, I strode into the hall, my gaze low, my steps careful and confident just like I was taught. Mother smiled encouragingly at me, I guess she understood what I was going through. She was once a princess too. I couldn't even look at my father, afraid he would look at me with disapproval, he was always like that. Wanting perfection and non tolerant for failure. I walked to my seat, glancing at the empty seat beside me where my to be husband will be sitting in moments. The sounds of greetings and polite laughter was what informed me he was here. The clicking of shoes approaching where I sat, told me he was coming. I looked down quickly, my hands rubbing each other nervously as mutiple thoughts cross my mind. I was afraid of looking at who my husband was... Afraid that I wouldn't like what I saw. And then he sat, not a word or a glance. I have been avoiding thinking of the moment of how we would meet. The voice of my father interrupted my thoughts. "Today is my most happiest day this year as I gather you all to celebrate my daughter's marriage to the crown prince of Persia" Persia? The procession began and that was when she felt her husband's stare. It was deep, unlike any other gaze. The orchestra started the slow music. "May I have this dance, my lady?" His hand was outstretched to her. Staring at the hand, Anna swallowed. Slowly, she lifted her eyes, her gaze moving from his hand, up to his elbow, across to his abdomen before his chest . She breathed, before she continued upward to his face And the moment their eyes met, Anna's heart momentarily stopped. The man before her look nothing like she had imagined. He wasn't old and wrinkled like the rumours say, his gaze wasn't as perverted as the maids has told me story about. Instead, he was breath taking. She was lost in the moment, that he had to speak again before she placed her hand in his outstretched one hesitantly. Tall, with a lean, solid build, eyes an even more intense shade of blue than she have ever seen with the face of a fallen angel. She tried convincing herself to look away, but his gaze was so enchanting that she drowned deep into it. He guided her into the dance floor. one hand moving to coop ner lower back and the other holding her hand. Sparks flew, surprising them both. A single thought clouding both their minds. 'Mate' A MATE?To be sincere, she wasn't expecting much of her husband but now not only did his looks and mannerisms were on par, he was Mated to her. He led the ballet, like a prodigy, she was a good dancer but it was hard to keep up with him, his hand behind her, occasionally keeping her in line with his steps. She was enamored by him. The dance ended after a few more couples joined the dance floor. The hall was filled with entertainment as people seem to be enjoying themselves. Anna kept her head lowered while sitting, it was what the queen taught her to do, ladies was expected to keep to them selves on days like these. In the next moment, it was time for the bride's talent show. It was a chance for the bride to make their husband admire them. Soon, she was sitting in the middle of the hall, all eyes on me. She had asked her personal maids before what they think was best for the performance show but they replied that she should go with her heart She sang, it was the only thing Anabelle could proudly attest to as her professional hobby. She sang the song 'a heroes past' She had learnt it from little, when her grandfather used to be alive. He always said the song had power to evoke sweet emotions. Closing her eyes, she poured emotions into her voice and let it take her far away, to somewhere peaceful. Untill she stopped and applauds follow, praises pouring in from here and there. Annabelle Opened her eyes to find her husband now staring back at her. He was quiet, but she could tell he was pleased, with the hint of smile hanging on his perfect lips. She felt her heart flutter.
