Chapter 2: Rekindled Bond

1460 Words
‘He needs me?’ was Emilia’s first thought. Not only did he not contact her for years, but when he finally did, he claimed he needed her. She remembered how they left things off the last time—the passionate and memorable one-night stand. She could remember how she wrapped her thighs around his waist when he buried his lengthened part in the deepest part of her, only to be disappointed the next minute that they were not fated to be. "What could he need me for? Why does he need to use his Alpha's seal? Whatever it is, it must be very important". Emilia wondered in her thoughts. Despite the hurt from the past, she had to honor his request, so she started to make her plans. The next day, she woke up earlier than usual, woke up her children, and hurried them up as they got ready for school. The children are quite discerning; they could feel their mom was moody even as she tried to conceal it, so they were well-comforted as they prepared for school. She packed their lunch bags. "Mommy loves you so much," she said, hugging and kissing with tears almost running down her face. "Are you okay, Mommy?" Diane asked in her tiny voice. 'I'm okay, baby, ' she replied, forcing a fake smile. The honking of the school bus alerted them to the time. Looking at her children once again saddens her even more, for she can see the resemblance they have to Alan. "Hello, Emilia," the bus driver said, greeting her with a smile. He probably felt pity for her after seeing what happened the previous day. "Hello," Emilia responded, faking the brightest smile just to put off that pitiful look from him. She said her goodbyes and walked back into her apartment. "Hello Emilia", her favorite neighbor greeted her on her way. Hello, Sam," she replied with a shy smile. "You look stressed; I hope you are okay?", Sam said. "Just a little stress from work, but I will be fine". "I have to go now; I'm running late for work", Emilia said. "Yeah, you should," Sam replied. Looking at her as she walked into her apartment, I could tell all was not well. Emilia went into her apartment to work on her resignation letter. Aside from Alan's request, she knew she couldn't stay there much longer because of Ken's relationship with one of the nurses where she works. She has become a mockery among her colleagues at the hospital. Emilia's heart was heavily weighed down by the fact that she was going to resign. She has made her decision; there is no going back. Getting to work, she went straight to Courtney. "Good morning, ma'am", Emilia greeted as she worked into the office with a slightly moody countenance. "Hey Emi, good morning", Courtney replied. "What is this awful look? What is the problem?" She asked with compassion in a low voice. Emilia sighed heavily, clasping her fingers together. "Do you need a leave? What is it? You know you always trust me," said Courtney. "I'm resigning, ma'am", Emilia replied, stretching forth her hand to hand her a letter. "But... why do you have a problem with anyone?" Courtney asked. No, ma'am, it's just that I'm needed at home," Emilia replied. Emilia is one of the best doctors they have on the team, and Courtney is not ignorant of her immense contribution since she came on board. "Okay! "That's fine; you can take a leave, sort yourself out, and then return when you are ready", Courtney said to Emilia. "I'm sorry, ma'am, I don't think I will come back," she retorted convincingly and apologetically. "I can tell your mind is made up; that's okay; you can always count on me, and you are free to return whenever you want; we will miss you", Courtney told her after seeing her decision. "Deep sigh," she said as she handed in her resignation. "Thank you, ma'am; I'll take my leave now," Emilia said, faking a smile as she exited the office. She has found fulfillment in her profession as a doctor in Krix, and the hospital that has served as a solace and an escape from her reality has become a place of bitter memories and betrayal. Holding back tears, these thoughts flood her mind as she makes her way to her office. She got to her office, picked up her things, and made her way out. Walking out of the hospital building the last time, she felt a mix of relief and sadness. This is an end to a chapter that promised so much love but ended in betrayal and turned her into a laughingstock. As she stepped into her car, she closed her eyes, took a deep breath of relief, and said, "Yes, Emi! It's over; you can do this." She took a deep breath again, turned on the ignition, and drove off. Her decision to return to the pack was affected by several factors, including the fact that her children are growing very fast and will eventually start asking questions about their father, in addition to Alan's earnest appeal, which she was unable to ignore. Emilia returned to her apartment and began to pack their luggage. Her children would be home soon, and she would need to have a talk with them about their relocation as she had already called the school authority to withdraw her children from school. Sometimes time flies when you have a lot of work to be done within a stipulated time. The many hours she spent packing seemed like a few minutes. The honking of the school bus alerted her to her children’s return from school. She rushed to the door. "Mom," the triplets said, hugging and kissing their mom simultaneously. "What's going on, Mom...? Our head teacher said something about us withdrawing from school." Duane asked. He was the more outspoken and inquisitive of the three. "Yes, Duane," Emilia replied. The triplets gave her a stern look as they sat on the couch, waiting for an explanation. They were just seven years old, but they had well-above-average levels of comprehension and mental acuity for their age. " Emilia smiling" sat in their midst on a three-seater couch, putting her hand around their shoulder. "We are going home. I hope you said goodbye to your friends and teachers." "Home, where is home?" Darren asked. Emilia chuckles, "Yes, baby, home." But Mom, why haven't you told us all this while?" Diane asked. The news broke their hearts, and Emilia had never seen them in this sad mood before. She hugged them closely, kissing them, and to lift their sad countenance, she said, "I'm sorry I never told you; that's going to change from now on. Yes! I have a home and a family too. You get to meet your grandparents and uncle when we get home." Though Steve and Clara are not Emilia's biological parents, they adopted her when she lost her parents when she was barely a child. Emilia never lacked anything growing up; Steve and Clara loved her as their own, raising her along with Brian, their son. "Wow, Mom! I'm going to meet Grandma and Grandpa", they said out of excitement. "Yes", Emilia replied, smiling. She's been able to put a smile on their faces; at least they have something to look up to as they journey home. Come help Mom pack the babies; we will leave by morning", said Emilia. "Alright Mom", they responded cheerfully as they made their way to the bedroom. Emilia had already packed their luggage and brought it all out. She had also made plans to lease out her apartment since she was not returning. As they prepared for their journey, Emilia couldn't help but feel the nagging feeling of unease that hung over her mind like a fog. Despite having anticipated the journey, she suddenly felt afraid of it. When they were done packing, they all brought the luggage down into their living room, and Emilia went ahead to make dinner. "Spaghetti for dinner?" Emilia asked her children with a smile. "Yes!" they all chorused. She smiled, amazed at their enthusiasm. She proceeded to make spaghetti for dinner. Seated at the table with her children, Emilia still couldn't get over the nagging feeling of unease. She sensed the weight of danger lurking in the shadows, lying in wait for her and the children. Her instincts screamed at her to be vigilant and protect what was dear to her. As dinner went on, she felt her previous feelings were just nerves, perhaps because she was going to see Alan and her family again after many years of being away. The morning came, and she almost wished it didn't.
