Chapter 7 Have You Fallen for Her?

1211 Words
Sunlight spilled through the glass windows, casting over the disheveled king-size bed. Hanson opened his eyes to find himself stark naked on the bed. His head was pounding, and his face felt as if it was on fire. Rubbing his brows, he sat up and began piecing together last night's events. After he downed the drink that Jaelyn had passed him, things started to go sideways... She must've tampered with it! Hanson knew all too well about Jaelyn's crush on him. For Shirley's sake, he'd always taken care of Jaelyn like a sister. But now, Jaelyn had crossed the line, and she couldn't blame him for not being merciful! As his thoughts swirled, a necklace on the bed caught his eye. Hanson's gaze narrowed slightly as he picked up the necklace for a closer look. It seemed like a woman's piece, with a pendant shaped like a musical note, and on it, two letters were engraved: AR. Inside his private suite, an unfamiliar necklace lying on his bed meant the woman who had spent a passionate night with him was likely the owner of this necklace! Clenching the necklace a bit tighter, Hanson tucked it into his pocket. He spun around and strode to the door. When he flung the door open, right there in front of him was Ashley, guarding his door. Hanson's abrupt appearance almost gave her a shock. But Ashley, ever the professional bodyguard, didn't let any emotion slip through. With a casual tone, she greeted, "Mr. Gardner, morning." Hanson lifted his chin as a sign for her to come in, then turned and walked back into the suite. A premonition fluttered through Ashley's mind. Could Hanson be suspecting her? With no other choice, Ashley followed Hanson into the suite. The room was in total disarray, and the heat crept onto her face as memories of the previous night flitted by; she didn't know where to look. Hanson stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows. The sunlight from outside cast a mysterious aura over his tall figure. It lent him an air of aloofness as if he were unapproachable. Ashley, trying to keep her cool, asked, "Mr. Gardner, do you need something from me?" Hanson slowly turned to face her, his gaze inscrutable. Hanson's blue eyes were stunning, but the way he silently watched her was downright creepy. Ashley felt a chill run down her spine under his intense stare. After a long silence, Hanson let out a cold chuckle and stepped forward toward Ashley. It wasn't until then that Ashley noticed the glaring red slap mark on Hanson's face! Suddenly, Ashley remembered it was her who, in yesterday's chaos, had struck him without thinking. Her heart raced, realizing she had hit harder than intended, but it was Hanson's fault for being so aggressive the night before. Ashley couldn't help but feel her cheeks burning hot as she remembered the previous night. But Hanson wasn't concerned with the handprint marking his face; his intense gaze cut right through her as he held up the necklace. The moment Ashley saw the necklace, her eyes widened in alarm! How did her necklace end up in Hanson's hands? Could it have been when he pulled her onto the bed last night and, in her frantic struggle, she had accidentally dropped it? Swallowing nervously, Ashley was still scrambling to fabricate a lie when Hanson beat her to the punch, "This was left by the woman who spent the night with me. Tell me, who is she?" Ashley was ready for this question and answered quickly, "She was a woman in a red dress with black hair and eyes..." She was describing herself on the night of Justin's birthday party, stealing glances at Hanson and trying to read from his expression whether he believed her or not. "Of course, it was her..." Hanson's recollection of last night was hazy due to the drugs, but the intense feelings engraved themselves deep in his heart. His gaze turned soft and puzzled for a moment as if muttering to himself, "Only she could stir such sensations in me, as innocent as an elf lost in the woods, yet as entrancing as a siren of the sea..." Hearing him describe his feelings for her, Ashley was hit with a wave of mixed emotions, remembering the passion of the previous night. Subconsciously, she asked, "Have you fallen for her?" "That's none of your business!" Hanson snapped back to reality due to her question. His expression quickly grew stern, and he sent her an icy glare as a warning. Ashley immediately clammed up. Hanson's attention seemed to drift to something else; a knowing smile suddenly played at the corners of his mouth. Ashley had never seen him smile like that before; the curve of his seductive lips set her heart racing. Treating the necklace with surprising tenderness, Hanson didn't press Ashley further, bringing her instead from the wine cellar to the company with him. He called Jaelyn into his office. Ashley was about to excuse herself when Hanson said, "Stay." In the spacious office, only the three of them were present. Ashley knew that Hanson was about to settle the score with Jaelyn, so she stood in a corner, trying to make herself as inconspicuous as possible, afraid of getting scorched by his fury. She had to hand it to Jaelyn for keeping a straight face under such pressure. Ashley couldn't help but secretly admire her nerve. Hanson's gaze was dark and heavy as he looked at Jaelyn, questioning her straight away, "Aren't you going to explain what happened in the wine cellar?" "What happened?" Jaelyn played dumb. "I left the cellar early because of some issues in the company yesterday..." Hanson slowly stood up and walked right up to Jaelyn, his presence totally overwhelming. His eyes seemed to pierce through her as if seeing through all her thoughts. "It's fine if you don't want to talk. Just go to HR and process your resignation." Jaelyn's eyes went wide, and tears streamed down her face in an instant. She couldn't fake innocence anymore and clung to Hanson's arm, pleading desperately, "Hanson, you can't do this! It wasn't on purpose. Please, forgive me this one time. What would Shirley think if she found out you're treating me like this? She would be so upset..." "Shut up!" Hanson snapped, cutting her off, "If Shirley knew what you did, she would regret ever having you as a sister!" He shook off her hand. "I can forgive you, but from now on, you're just my employee. There's nothing personal between us anymore. And let me tell you one last time, even if I fall for another woman, it will never be you!" "Who have you fallen for?" Jaelyn's tears suddenly stopped as she sharply picked up on the slip in Hanson's words. Her question left him speechless, and Ashley guiltily looked away. Hanson snorted, gave Jaelyn a disgusted glance, and walked past her out of the office. Ashley followed, looking at his tall figure, her heart swirling with a mixture of disbelief and shock. Had Hanson... really fallen for her? Behind them, Jaelyn pulled a sneer, her gaze fierce. "If I can't have you, no one can! I won't let you fall for another woman!"
