Chapter 19

Pete POV

After Christa finished revealing that Monika wasn’t my real mate and was involved in Christa’s car accident, I felt overwhelmed. I could feel my wolf Xander taking over and forcing himself out until he eventually overpowered me. I was worried for Christa. I knew that she could hold her own now since she received her wolf and has been practicing her powers, but my wolf can be unpredictable, which is why I would never allow her to be around me when I was in wolf form.

Once I regained control, I was relieved that Xander didn't cause her harm, but I’m confused as to how we were able to go against Alpha’s orders. It’s yet another thing to worry about. But for now, I knew we needed to find Monika and make her answer for what she’s done.

“Monika is on a flight back from Africa.”

“What was she doing there?” Eli asks.

“I’m not sure. She’s been acting strange lately, so I sent a buddy of mine to follow her. He was asking around the village she was in and showing them her picture. They said she was searching for a Shaman.”

“What would she need with a Shaman?” Christa asks.

“That’s a good question.” I reply.

“When is she due to arrive?” Eli asks.

“I’m not sure. I’m supposed to get a text from her when she arrives.” Replies Pete.

“Okay, let me know when you get that text. I’ll send someone to pick her up from the airport. Until we know what she’s up to its best you try to keep your distance from her.” Eli warns.

“She’s going to wonder why I’m not picking her up myself, and now with our mate connection broken she’s going to be suspicious if I don’t pick her up.” Pete states.

“Don’t worry about that. I’ll have my guy tell her that I sent you somewhere on a mission. In fact, that’s exactly what I’m going to do until we find out what she’s up to. I need someone to go to Opal Moon territory in California to help them with recovery efforts from the earthquake. It’ll be a perfect way to keep you away from her without seeming suspicious and she won’t dare question my authority.” Eli tells Pete. Pete nods and begins moving towards the door.

“Oh, and Pete,” Pete turns his head towards Eli, “when you get back, we’re going to discuss how your wolf was able to disobey my orders.” Pete nods his understanding once again. As he’s about to step out the door he pauses and turns back towards me and gives me kiss on my cheek before he walks out the door. I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding as I turn back to Eli.

“Well, that went well.” Eli chuckles as he takes me into his arms, I wrap my arms around his waist as I lay my head against his chest and let out a sigh.

**Monika**

My plane finally lands, and I quickly make my way to the baggage claim. Once I get my bags, I begin to look for Pete anxious to see him since I haven’t been able to feel our link. After about 30 minutes of searching, I call his phone to find out where he is. It rings until it goes to voicemail.

“What the hell is going on? Why isn’t he answering?” I mumble to myself. As I start to text him, I feel a tap on my shoulder, and I spin around to see who it is. The man standing in front of me is a giant muscular guy. I feel like it takes forever as my eyes land on his chest, and I search my way up to meet his eyes. He has a hard serious face and black eyes. He has to stand at 7 feet at least. After a moment I recognize him as one of Eli’s warriors.

“Where is Pete?” I ask.

“The Alpha sent him on a mission, so he sent me here to pick you up.”

“Oh, wonderful!” I say sarcastically. “Well, since you’re here why don’t you make yourself useful and carry my bags,”

I say as I begin to hand them off to him.

We walk silently to the car. I get into the back seat as he puts my bags into the trunk. Once he gets into the car, I can feel the tension radiating off him, but I can’t seem to make myself care so I shrug it off.

“Do you happen to know where Eli sent him?”

“That’s confidential information, Ma’am.”

That’s all he says as he begins to pull the car out of the parking space. I can’t help but sigh my frustration. I can already tell it’s going to be no use arguing with this mountain of a man. There’s nothing I can do for now besides sit back and ride home in intense silence.

**Jenna**

It’s been a few days since I’ve seen Pete now. My wolf and I feel miserable and brokenhearted. I know that he hasn’t rejected me, but the fact that he didn’t acknowledge me as his mate after he marked me, and ran away makes it feel all the same. My mind keeps replaying the moment our eyes locked at the door and he took me in his arms suddenly and marked me as his, was the most exhilarating, and most amazing feeling I have ever felt, especially with how his touch set my body on fire, and the tingles his touch sent through me from head to toe was the most unique feeling I have ever had, even if it was just for a moment. Even now, I can still remember what it felt like when he touched me and I can’t help but wonder if he’s been thinking the same. I can’t stop wondering if he’s been thinking about me as well. I can feel him with me even though he’s not here. I guess that’s what the mate link does.

“Use mate-link to talk to mate!” Opal urges. I have to wonder if I try hard enough, if it’s even possible to connect with him through our link with him being so far away?

“It’s possible. Opal strong enough. Please try!” Opal begs.

Our mate-link is still new but it’s worth a shot. If my wolf thinks she can do it then it’s worth a try, either way, she won’t stop whimpering until I do, and I know she needs her mate as much as I do.

I lay down in bed, and focus on the ceiling. I think about his handsome face, his beautiful brown eyes, his caramel skin, his long dark black hair, and his kind smile. I can feel a slight tingling within me so I dig deeper. I think about his smooth baritone voice that just melts over you like warm honey, and you can just feel it vibrate within you, I can feel something more now than just tingling!

“Pete? Are you there?” I call out to him in my mind.

I can hear a very faint voice. It’s so faint that I almost think I’m imagining it until my wolf perks up.

“Jenna, is that you?”

“Yes, Pete… yes, it’s me!”

“How are you mind-linking me right now when I’m so far away?”

“I don’t know? My wolf kept pushing me to try talking to you so I focused really hard and…” I pause, embarrassed to say what I was about to say.

“And what?” Pete pushes.

“And… thought about everything that I liked about you,” I say in a whisper. After a moment I still haven’t heard back from him.

“Pete? Are you still there?” I hear him clear his voice before he speaks.

“Yeah, I’m still here… So, uh, what exactly do you like about me?”

“Oh, um, well… everything,” is all I could think of on the spot. I hear him chuckle over our mind-link and it makes me shiver all over. I’m sure he can feel my embarrassment through our link.

“Well, I’m sure once I get back and you get to know me more, you’ll change your mind about liking everything about me.”

“Doubtful.” As soon as I thought it, I realized it I said it out loud in our mind-link, and I can’t help but slap my hand over my mouth. All of a sudden, he is in a full-blown laughing fit, and I can’t help but laugh along with him. At the same time, I feel some weight being lifted off my chest because he talked about me getting to know him.

“Oh man, I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time?”

“Yeah, I know what you mean.”

“So, how are you doing! I mean with everything?” Pete asks, bringing up the elephant in the room.

“I’m doing ok I guess, considering. My wolf Opal is whining for her mate and I can’t deny that I feel the same.” There is a long moment of silence before Pete speaks up.

“I’m sorry for how everything turned out, and I’m sorry that I marked you without your permission. I don’t know what came over me, as soon as I looked into your eyes my wolf took over, and before I could regain control it was over.”

“No, please don’t apologize. If I’m being honest, I was so happy and excited you marked me. When I first met you, I could immediately feel our connection but I had to ignore it because I knew you already had a mate so I was really confused about what I was feeling, but Opal was almost positive you were our mate. So, when you claimed us, it felt like a dream come true!” I can hear him let out a long sigh.

“I’m happy to hear you say that, but I can’t take away the fact that I marked you and then ran off. I was so confused and angry, and well...” he clears his throat, “and well-turned on... I had to get out of there before I jumped you in front of everyone. I’m not proud of my behavior, especially with my true mate. Had we met before Monika, I would have treated you with care, love, and adoration. To be honest, I never felt what I felt with you, with Monika. My mate bond with her was duller and more muffled compared to what I feel with you. Now I understand what the big deal is when new mates are all over each other in the beginning! I look forward to feeling it again.”

“You do?” I ask as he chuckles. I can just imagine him nodding his head from wherever he is.

“Yes, I do. And when I get back, I want to start over and do things right with you… What do you think about that?”

“I think I would like that very much.”

“Good, good. Well, I know it’s getting late so I’m going to let you go so you can get some sleep.”

“Okay.”

“Okay.” He chuckles once again. “Goodnight,” he tells me.

“Night.”

After our conversation, I went to sleep feeling lighter than I have in a very long time, and finally, Opal could also rest easy knowing our mate wanted us.

**Lex**

I can’t stop pacing my room while I look out my floor-to-ceiling windows. My patience is wearing is thin.

“What is taking so long?” I shout at the old witch.

“Patience my King. All will fall into place soon. When the stars and moons align, you will have your prize.”

“Patience? I have been nothing but patient! I want to get her now!”

“My King, if you act too soon, all of our hard work will be in vain, and I guarantee you will fail. You need to continue to keep your head down…

Besides if they don’t what you are doing or when you are going to do it, you will have the element of surprise and you can take your mate when they least suspect it. Especially with that Alpha of theirs. He is strong and if you move when he has his guard down that will give you the best chance to take what you want as quick as possible without too much fight.”

“Hmmm, you do have an excellent point I’ll give you that. Fine, I will follow your plan but if it fails in any way, I swear I will have your head before you even know what hit you!”

“I would expect nothing less from you, my King.”

Hello, my lovely readers, once again I want to say thank you for your patience, and I apologize in advance if this is TMI, but I would just like you to know why I’m not posting as much as I was, and why it's taking me so long to post chapters. As you know, if you’ve read my profile, I am disabled. Lately, I have been struggling with spinal damage that had happened years ago when my lower spine collapsed in on itself in my low back from my inherited disease Ankylosing Spondylitis. After my spine surgery, everything was great. Everything that had come along with my collapsed spine had slowly gone away. Only recently, my low spine has been in pain again and my old issues have yet again come back. I have been suffering from spinal myoclonus seizures and it's both frustrating and stressful. It makes it difficult to do much of anything, including writing because it doesn't just stop it continues with my body doing big repetitive jerking movements constantly. So, you can imagine it's difficult to type during this. Well, with this on top of pain, Dr. Appointments, and medical procedures it's difficult to think sometimes, and my creative brain hasn’t been up to par like it usually is. Anyway, long story short, I haven't given up on my book, I haven’t forgotten about you, my lovely amazing readers, and I promise I am working on my chapters as much as I possibly can, but I just have to warn that there may be long periods in between posting chapters as you have seen recently.
