Jacob POV
Standing there looking out at the garden, the girl looked pissed off and irritated, but I couldn't help thinking that it made her a little bit more attractive to me. I like a girl with attitude and spunk, not to mention she wasn't bad-looking at all. She was pretty cute. It's too bad she's on the wrong side. Otherwise, I’d have to take her and keep her for myself. But then again, once Lex takes over this pack and she survives, I could keep her for myself anyways.
I decided to approach her carefully, not knowing how she would react to my presence.
“Hey,” I say to her nonchalantly. She gives me a side-eye look, examining me as though trying to figure out my intentions. She finally looks away and doesn't say anything to me. She didn't tell me off or walk away from me, so I take that as a good sign. I continue to stand next to her in silence for a few moments before I say something else.
“It’s peaceful out here, isn’t it. A stark difference to the party going on inside.” She simply just shrugs her shoulder, not saying anything.
“You look like you got something on your mind? I’m a pretty good listener!” She glances at me but still doesn't say anything. “It might help if I introduce myself first, huh? I’m Jacob, and you are?” I ask as I hold my hand out to her for a handshake. She furrowed her eyebrows as she looked at my hand being held out. She looks like she is thinking about whether or not she wants to take my hand. I can see the moment she makes up her mind. She finally takes my hand into hers in a firm handshake.
“Rebecca.” She replies. I give a slight nod of my head and smile at her.
“It’s nice to meet you.”
“I’ve never seen you around here before?” She says curiously.
“Yeah, I’m new here. I came here after my entire pack was murdered.” She frowns.
“I’m sorry to hear that.”
“Thanks. It's a hard change, but everyone here has been making me feel welcome.”
“Good. I’m glad you feel welcome here. This is a good pack to be a part of. The Alpha here is great! You’ll feel at home in no time!”
“I noticed you're not a werewolf. And yet you're here with this pack.” She nods her head, catching my drift of what I'm really asking.
“I’m a witch; I help the pack when they need me, but I’m no longer a part of this pack.”
“No longer? So you used to be part of the pack?” She looks at me as if she’s figuring out how much information she wants to give me.
“Used to be. I grew up with the Alpha. Then we became High School sweethearts. Once he took his place as Alpha, we split ways. I couldn't be around him if I couldn’t be with him, so I left.”
“So I’m assuming you're back with the Alpha if you're here now?” I ask, playing dumb. She shakes her head. I lift my brows in mock surprise.
“If you're not back to be with the Alpha, then why are you here?”
“Like I said, I come back from time to time if the Alpha needs my help. Once I’m finished here, I’ll go back to where I came from.”
“Can I ask what you're helping the Alpha with?” She gives me another side-eye look and then smirks.
“I don’t know? Can you?” I chuckle at my mistake.
“May I ask what you're helping the Alpha with?” She then turns her body towards me entirely.
“Like I would really tell you that! I don't know you from Adam.” I lift my hands in surrender.
“You’re right. I stepped out of line. It just seemed like you had a lot on your mind, and I thought it would help if you talked it out. That's all.” She turns away from me, once again facing forward.
“You’re right. It's none of your business.” She states. I nod my head, and we sit there in silence. I know that I won’t be able to get any more information out of her tonight.

Later that night, I sneak out of the house to meet with Lex and give him an update. So far, every time I have snuck out, I’ve been able to go unnoticed. As I get closer to the end of the territory, I hear a deep growl and freeze, making sure I don't go any further. I look in the direction of where the growl came from and see Ethan standing there with his arms crossed. He seems pissed off.
“Where do you think you're going?” He growls.
“I just thought I would take a walk. It's a nice night, and I was considering letting my wolf out for a run since I haven't been able to since I got here.” I tell him. Ethan looks at me as though he's unconvinced.
“If that’s the case, you won’t mind if I join you!” He says, lifting an eyebrow, wondering how I’ll react. I do my best to stay indifferent and shrug my shoulders.
“Sure. I wouldn't mind the company.” I tell him. Inside I’m freaking out. Lex is not going to be happy if I’m a no-show tonight, but what choice do I have? I can’t blow my cover now. Not when I’m getting so close to finding her.
**Lex**
‘He should have been here by now!’ I think to myself as I pace the room. ‘Where could he possibly be?’ Every scenario is running through my head. Did they figure him out? Did he get caught? Has he switched sides and become a traitor? Not knowing is driving me insane! I let out a roar that rattles the walls—frustration seeping out of my pores. Seething from the inside out, I run outside and immediately shift into my wolf. As we run through the wooded lands, we get about 45 miles from wolf territory, and we end up catching some interesting new scents. We smell burnt wood, and something sweet. As we follow the scent, we come upon some humans camping in tents. Humans don’t usually come this far out off the trails, but luckily for me, these guys did! I can’t help but smile to myself at the fun we’re about to have. These stupid unsuspecting humans have no idea what’s coming for them. As they lie sleeping peacefully in their tents, I let out a loud howl, letting them know I’m here. I’m not that much of a monster that I won’t give them a head start. Besides, I prefer the chase. Smelling their fear makes it all the more fun!
At the sound of my howl, they turn their lamps on and peak outside their tents. I sit back and watch, waiting for my prey.
“Hey Joe, did you hear that?” The human says as he pokes his head through his tent.
“Yeah, that sounded like a wolf nearby! Don't worry; they won’t mess with us. They’re more scared of us than we are of them. They won't get too close!”
“You sure, man? That didn't sound like no regular wolf!” The human says. I can already hear his heart beating rapidly.
“Yeah, I’m sure! Now, go back to sleep, Mike! We got an early mornin’.”
As they get ready to turn their lamps back off, I step closer to their camp, making sure I make noise. A stick loudly snaps under my massive paws.
“Hey, Joe, that sounded like it was right next to us!”
“Alright, I’m gonna go check it out! It's probably just a bear or somethin’!” He gets out of his tent with his flashlight and starts walking towards me as I’m crouched down, hidden behind trees and thick brush. He gets closer and closer to me, and I get ready for the kill, but not until he sees what it is that is about to take his life. As he moves closer, I stand up to my full height as his flashlight lands directly on me, my red eyes glowing in excitement, ready to go in for the kill. Stunned at what he's seeing, he drops his flashlight to the ground, but before he has a chance to scream, I take my claw and swipe at his throat, making sure he
can’t make a sound, but not enough to kill him. My wolf wants to play with him for a while. I drag him out of the way and slice the back of his Achilles' tendons so that he can’t just get up and run away. Next, I focus on the other human. This one, I have a feeling, is going to be fun. I can already sense his fear as his heart beats rapidly.
“Joe? Joe, what’s goin’ on over there?”
Getting more scared, he comes out of his tent to check on his friend.
“Joe, can ya hear me? Where'd ya go?” He asks as he gets closer. I allowed him to get close enough to find his friend, leaned against the tree holding his throat, unable to call out. I get a rush and pure enjoyment when he finally sees his buddy.
“JOE! What the hell happened?” He runs up to his friend while I hide and wait. His friend ‘Joe’ is holding his throat, unable to respond. Joe tries to use his eyes to warn his friend of the danger lurking behind him, but he’s too flustered over his friend to even notice.
“Who did this, Joe? Hold on; I’m goin’ to call for help!” The only sound Joe can get out is a bloodied gurgle, slightly trying to shake his head as he holds his throat. As Mike has his back turned, I silently move behind him and stand to my full height once again. His buddy Joe looks up behind his buddy, his eyes wide and filled with horror.
“It’s gonna be ok, Joe! I’m callin’ for help!” He says, still oblivious to the danger behind him. As he begins calling for help, he finally notices a giant dark shadow hanging over his friend. He looks at Joe’s fear-filled eyes and slowly turns around to see what’s behind him. He drops the phone in shock, just as the voice on the phone sounds.
“911, what’s your emergency?”
As the operator is trying to get an answer, he slowly looks up and gets a full view of my face; my lips are curled up, showing off my sharp K9s as I snarl and snap close at his face. As I snap, my saliva sprays on him, causing him to flinch. He slowly brings his hand up to his face and tries to wipe it off as he looks into my blood-red eyes. His face pales. He slowly begins to back away from me but trips and falls back on his butt, but he quickly stands back up on shaky legs. As he backs away from me, I slowly step towards him, smashing his phone into the ground, breaking it. Once he gets into the clearing, he takes off into a sprint. I smile, now for the fun part! I let him get some space between us. I let him think he's got enough distance on me before I give chase, but I’m so fast before he even realizes it, I leap directly in front of him, stopping him in his tracks. He immediately turns around to run the other way, but he will never be faster than me! Pathetic little human!
It becomes a back and forth game between us. I let him think he's getting away, and then I catch up to him easily. It's a game of cat and mouse. He's beginning to tire and quickly realize that I’m playing a game with him and stops running.
“P-p-p-please! Don’t hurt me!” He begs. It's what they always do when they realize they can’t win. They beg for their lives. They're weak, pathetic little beings, and I can’t wait to make them all my servants. They’re nothing but a waste of air!
Bored with our little game of chase, I drag him back to where we originally started. The sound of his screams brings pleasure to my ears. Now, it's time to take out my frustrations and go for the kill!

Once I’ve finished relieving my stress, I call upon my witch. After a few moments of waiting, she arrives. I have been waiting for her news on what she could find out about my future mate, and it seems by the smile on her face she has found something that will be very pleasing!
