CHAPTER 2- A NEW CHARACTER IN THE SCHOOL

1683 Words
GRACE While I was busy in my thoughts, I didn’t notice that Professor D’Souza was calling my name to answer him, but instead, I was busy doodling and talking to myself. Moreover, I was sitting on the last bench alone, so there was no one to give me a heads-up about the professor’s presence. He came and stood in front of my desk towering over me, when his shadow fell on my notebook, blocking the light, I looked up to see who was standing there. I dropped my pen when I saw the professor’s face. He was looking furious. I gulped down the saliva and stood up from my seat. “Miss Evans, may I know what you are doing instead of focusing on my class and taking down notes?” he asked sternly, which made me more nervous. Well, did I tell you all this about me that when I’m nervous I’m bound to become the clumsiest person on the whole planet, like I would spit out nonsense or would fall on the ground. It’s like me and the ground have a perfect relationship and, you know, sometimes I feel that the ground is my mate. “Umm… Actually, professor, I-I was taking down notes only s-see I’m holding the pen also, and here’s my notebook. Y-you can c-check yourself.” And I did it. It was like asking the danger to come to my doorstep. Okay, at least I thought that he would believe me and would not check the notebook because the way I spoke with confidence should make the professor believe me. You know there’s a saying that when you are doing something wrong and if you are caught, then speak a lie with such confidence that it should make the other person doubt whether he is right or wrong, and this was the same trick I was trying to use, but the catch was I didn’t spoke the lie with confidence instead I shuttered so much that now the professor was more suspicious. “Then show me your notebook and tell me what I was teaching.” He stretched his hand forward in a way of taking my notebook, but I was holding my notebook like my life depended on it. Then I remembered that I have already studied this, so I’m afraid I can't tell what he is teaching and for the notes let’s see what will happen. I took a look at the blackboard and a small smile crept onto my face. I started speaking but didn’t give my notebook to him. “Professor, you were teaching us how to write a literary essay, using 'The Great Gatsby'” As I was about to say more, the bell rang and, oh my God, for the first time, I thought that God was really on my side. Professor looked at me and asked me to submit the homework by tomorrow which he forgot I guess that tomorrow was the weekend so obviously I wouldn’t be coming to college for cleaning. I just nodded and he went back, I plopped down my seat since my legs had given up. It was lunchtime and after today’s event, I was already starving. Suddenly someone came from behind and hit me on my head like seriously who the f**k is this now. I turned around to see who it was to only find three monkeys well not the typical monkeys, I mean my only three friends standing behind me with a grin on their face. “Oww… what was this for, Paul?” I asked rubbing my head where he hit me just now. “For once will you start paying attention in class, dreamer?” Paul is a werewolf just like us but he has a wolf don’t worry. I’m the only unusual one. He is tall, with pitch-black hair, green eyes with a sharp jawline, and prominent facial features. He is Eva’s mate who is also my best friend. He is also one of the smartest boys in our college because of this at first Eva was protective of him. They met during one of the gatherings of our pack, ‘New Moon Gathering’, and from then on they have been together. “Grace, try to be present in this land more than being in another land, you know the other people of that land can’t handle your presence.” Jared joked. “Oh, please I am always on the land of Earth and people are pleased to have me here,” I replied. Jared was Eva’s brother who is one year older than her but is still studying with us in the same class because of his love for his sister. Yes, you won’t believe but Eva at first was very introverted so she didn’t try to make any friends at first, and the fact that we are werewolves it makes one barrier to making human friends. So, she would always be with her brother but then during his 7th grade, he purposely failed so that he could be with his sister but you know what the very next year Eva met Paul. Yes, so now he is like a third wheel between Eva and Paul. Jared is taller than Paul and is more muscular, he has blue eyes and chestnut blonde hair giving him the perfect playboy look which he is. He has yet not found his mate and being handsome comes with its perks but, he is like that typical loverboy who is waiting for that one girl who will come and change his life. Sounds very cliché, right? But that’s what it is. “Dreamer, we all know that you are intelligent but you should not show off like this. Just think about us.” Paul said with a fake sad voice. I just shrugged in response to his question but wait why does he always call me Dreamer, from what I know and now you all know, my name is Grace, full name, Grace Isabella Evans. So, from where does this dreamer come from? “Paul, why do you keep insisting on calling me a dreamer and not my actual name, especially when my name doesn’t even come closer to that weird name of yours?” “Okay! So let me explain. During most of the class, what do you do?” he asked. “Sleep, since I have already covered that part,” I answered nonchalantly. “Exactly, since you sleep most of the time during class, it means you are always dreaming in your dreamland, so that’s why our name is Dreamer.” He said while laughing along with Jared. I just looked at him thinking what kind of reason this was and from where he found this absurd fact. Don’t know what goes inside that brain of his and Jared’s. “Oh, stop it both of you. Leave her, let her take a fresh air of breath. Both of you are standing towering over her.” Eva said while pushing both of them away from my desk. My Savior, my best friend, I said this in my head as I saw Eva. I hugged her for saving me from these two brats. I’m already hungry, and these two are not ready to move. “You know because of your nonsense we are going to miss our lunch. You have already wasted seven minutes. Let’s go Grace, I’m starving. “Oh, my are you my soul sister, Eva? How did you know what I was thinking?” “Is that even a question? We are soul sisters who were separated during birth only to be brought together by fate.” She said with a huge smile on her face. I remember when I first met Eva during the lunch break in the hall, she was sitting with Paul and Jake and enjoying her lunch while I was sitting alone and was staring out of the window which happened to be the one of which they were sitting near, and they mistook it for I was staring at them. Eva was the one to approach me and then later we became friends and when I first told them about me not having a wolf, the shock they had on their faces was laughable. But they still accepted me, and it was one of the biggest victories of my life. Since they were the first few friends, I managed to make my whole life of eighteen years. I have known them for three years now. Being born as an abomination to a family is a very big thing and because of this, no one in the pack wanted to be friends. Moreover, my grandfather never allowed me to make friends. “Okay! Okay! Let’s go.” We went to the cafeteria and took our usual seats at the corner of the table. Paul and Jared went to order for us. Paul and I ordered a cheeseburger and fries, and Eva and Jared ordered the cheese lasagna. It was Friday and today’s menu was one of the best menus. While we were waiting for our food, when a boy who looked like he was new came, and by his looks, we could tell that he was not a normal human. Even though I didn’t have my wolf, I could still say that he was also a werewolf by his scent. Eva, Jared, and Paul looked around in the direction where I was looking, and by their expressions, I could tell they also recognized that he was a werewolf. And by his looks, I can also tell that he knew we were not just humans. He came straight towards us. “Can I sit with you guys?” Quote of the day: “As long as you look for someone else to validate who you are by seeking their approval, you are setting yourself up for disaster. You have to be whole and complete in yourself. No one can give you that. You have to know who you are - what others say is irrelevant.”
