The Heart of A Lycan

It is the middle of the night and I am running towards the border of the next pack. I need to get away from here before I turn 18. My parents where fated mates: a pact between Lilith, Queen of of the Vampires and the goddess Lupa, fated my mother a she wolf, to a Vampire King. Unfortunately my father was destroyed when I was 9 and my grandparents asked my mother to come back to her pack. She brought me with her and I have been the weird hybrid offspring of the pack ever since. Today I am 17, but at midnight I will turn 18, and the elders will see if I have my Dad’s Vampire gene or my Mom’s wolf gene. The pack is worried as my mother, Selene, is the daughter of an Alpha Wolf and they are terrified that I will be a vampire. So instead of sticking around to find out what they will do with me, I’m running away. I’m not going to renounce my pack as I will always be a Scarlet-Heart pack member, AND a Bloodstone till the end of time. Bloodstone is my father’s Coven. Unfortunately, I will not be allowed to take his place on the throne because I’m a half breed. But, I will always be Hope Bloodstone. That’s just who I am, but right now I gotta get past Ricky at the boarder. He knows I have not shifted yet, and he is stronger then I am since he got his Wolf Rafe last year. “Hey, Hope, what are you doing out here at this time? It’s late and I’ve already spotted a few Rouges around the border.” “Ricky, I’m just out for a run under the full moon. I always feel energized afterwards and it’s such a beautiful night.” “Well, Selene will have my head if you get close to the boarder. You know that you’re not allowed to go any further. It’s not safe. There have been way to many Rouge sightings the last couple weeks.” “I’m fine, Mom and Grandpa have upped my training since my Dad passed away. They insist that I know how to protect myself and I’ve been actively sparing in the circle since I was 10.” “That’s not a reason to be out this late, Hope. Why don’t I walk you back to the Manor?” “That’s not necessary, I can walk myself! I’m not a child Ricky.” “I didn’t say you were, Hope, but I care about you and want to make sure you make it back safely.” “Wow, since when do you care about me? Last week you stated very loudly that I was ‘just a half breed and should be thankful my Mom was allowed to come back here in the first place!’”. Suddenly Ricky is grabbing my arm roughly. “Ouch! What do you think your doing!?!” “I’m walking you back to the manor right now! You know the rules and I didn’t mean to say that.” Ricky starts pushing me down the gravel road toward my house. When he gets me to the door he puts his arms around my shoulders and pulls me in for a hug. “Hope, I’m sorry for being gruff.” His blue eyes suddenly turn a light gray and he has a concerned look on his face.”I gotta go. Alpha is calling an emergency meeting. Please, just go inside and I will see you tomorrow.” “Tell Grandpa I said Hi.” I turn the handle on the door and go inside the manor. I press my back against the door, waiting for Ricky to start walking towards the meeting hall. It’s across the street from the Manor, which is huge. It has 5 floors and is very close to a boutique hotel. It has everything that you would need inside and Grandpa Heart did not spare any expense when he updated it after taking over the pack. My room is on the top floor inside my Moms suite. Our suite has two bedrooms with an en-suite attached, half kitchen,living room and an office. My Mom runs a small Catering business in the human world called Sweet Fang. It’s logo has a cupcake with two little fang marks in the side of it. One wolf and one vampire tooth biting into a cupcake to symbolize Mom and Dad. One day the business will be turned over to me and she will retire but that is not today or anytime soon. I have to graduate high school first, then, in a few months then I’m taking a baking class at the local college. The town meeting is probably about me because those creepy Seers on their way to have a look at my future tomorrow. I turn 18 officially at 1:11 AM and my wolf or vampire should appear and I should be able to scent out my mate for the first time. They want to know if I’m going to go into Blood Lust and devour the whole pack unintentionally, or if I will have a Wolf like my moms. It’s a little weird so I’m going to run away and become one with the land. Anything to stay away from those things staring into my soul. I mean you can’t even wash your body out after they grab you and look into your essence with those long gross talons. I’ve heard everyone pukes after the Seers get ahold of them. I look out the door and see Ricky disappear into the building accross the street.
