Jess adjusted her dress nervously as she stood, waiting at the edge of the grand hall. Trey's coronation was about to begin in full swing, the air around them was filled with celebration and the wonderful scent of power. Gathering every ounce of courage in body, she stepped forward, her heart pounding hard in her chest. "Congratulations, Alpha Trey." She said softly with a barely audible voice as Trey walked past. Trey turned around, his eyes cold as ice and filled with disgust as they landed on her. His entire expression was filled with disdain for her. Without a word, he turned his gaze away from her, dismissing her completely. Her chest tightened, and the harsh sting from his rejection cut through her body once again. Memories of their past rushed back into her mind. She had discovered that he was her mate on her eighteenth birthday, a moment that was meant to change her life forever. Instead, Trey had rebuked her with words that broke her heart forever: "I, Trey Black, son of Alpha Mykel Black, hereby reject you as my mate. A weak omega like you could never be my mate." Her fists clenched together by her sides, but she forced herself to maintain her composure. Suddenly, Trey's lover, Scarlett, strode right into the room, her long crimson hair following behind her. She pushed Jess aside, deliberately bumping into her. "Well, well, my Alpha," Scarlett announced, leaning closer to press a kiss on Trey's lips. "Congratulations on your coronation." Jess turned her eyes away, her cheeks burning with jealousy. She wanted to leave, but then Trey's voice rang loudly from behind her. "What are you still doing here? Get lost!" Jess felt her throat hurt, but she managed to reply, "Yes, Alpha." Before slipping out, hearing Scarlet's mocking laughter echoing behind her. The grand coronation ceremony began soon enough. All pack members from far and wide began to make their way into the hall, their voices all saying the same thing. Jess lingered around the crowd, making sure to keep a safe distance. Her heart ached knowing that she wasn't going to be the mate that stood by Trey's when he was announced as the new Alpha. As she tried to move closer to the exit, away from the humiliation, she collided with someone. A firm hand held her together, and she looked up to see a pair of striking blue eyes. Her breath caught in her lungs. "Are you alright?" the man asked, his deep voice coming out smooth and commanding. Jess nodded, but words failed to leave her mouth. She was overcome by a strange warmth that filled her heart, an unexplainable pull to the stranger that made her unable to speak. This feeling... She had felt it before. It was the mate bond. But how? Trey is my mate. The man tilted his head, his gaze completely locked on her. "What is your name, young lady?" he asked, his tone sounding very curious. Before Jess could speak up this time around, a loud voice interrupted them. "Ah, King Luca! Oh welcome, welcome!" It was Alpha Mykel, Trey's father, the current Alpha of the Blood Phoenix pack, making his way towards them with his arms wide open. Jess's stomach fell to the ground. King Luca? As in the famous and wealthiest Lycan King? No! This isn't right. There has to be some mistake somewhere. She was too low in the ranks to be mated to a Lycan King. Not wanting any more attention to herself, She walked away immediately, bowing her head to avoid drawing any attention to herself. Alpha Mykel shook King Luca, a smile of pride beaming on his face. "Ah, it's an honor to host you here," Mykel said. "Please, come meet my son, Trey Black, the newest Alpha of our pack." Jess froze where she stood as Mykel led Luca toward Trey and Scarlet, who had just made their grand entrance into the hall. She prayed that she would remain unnoticed, but Trey's sharp voice cut through the hall like a knife. "Jess! Don't just stand there. Fetch refreshments for everyone. Come on!" he barked at her, his tone buttered in contempt. Scarlet smirked, adding. "The b**** only knows how to stand and do nothing useful." "Yes, alpha." She replied before leaving, her cheeks turning red as all eyes were now on her. "Wait." This single word, spoken with so much authority, held her back, and unable to move. Jess turned around slowly to see King Luca stepping forward to meet Trey. "Is that how you address the members of your pack?" Luca said with a calm voice that had a dangerous side to it. Trey stiffened, his heart racing as the god-like figure of King Luca towered over him. "She is just an omega. Your Majesty, it is her job to.." Luca's blue eyes narrowed. " You will treat her with respect, young man." The crowd fell silent, tension taking over the air. Trey's hands formed a fist by his side. "With all due respect, you have no say in my pack." "You will do well to remember that you are standing before a Lycan King. I can have your head rolling in seconds." King Luca responded to Trey's statement. Jess stood still, completely frozen by what was transpiring. She couldn't understand why the Lycan King would be defending her, let alone threatening Trey for her sake. "I…I apologize, King Luca but…I don't see how this is an issue. She is weak.." Trey spoke again, trying to stand his ground before he was cut off. "Silence!" Luca's voice cut through the air like a blade causing Trey's mouth to go shut as he commanded. "If you insult her again, Alpha or not, I will end you myself." King Luca said, his voice now deadly. "She is my mate!" The room erupted like a volcano into murmurs and whispers. Jess's eyes widened as her legs began to give out underneath her. His mate? That was impossible. "Apologize now," Luca commanded. Trey hesitated for a moment, his pride mixing with his fear. One look at King Luca's cold eyes and a nod from his father, and he knew the choice he had to make. "I'm sorry.Jess." Trey spat out slowly, his mouth turning sour with every word that was left. "Never do that again." King Luca added, his words having no room for argument. "She might be an omega but it doesn't change the fact that she is my mate and soon-to-be queen of the Lycan kingdom. Any disrespect to her again and I will destroy you." At the mention of Jess being the soon-to-be Lycan Queen, Scarlett began to weigh her options. 'She is nothing but a weak omega and doesn't deserve to be the Lycan queen. I should be the queen.' She thought, eying Jess jealously. Trey turned to Jess with confusion in his eyes as he processed everything Luca had just said. Shaking his head, he whispered. "This is wrong. She was mated to me first! Jess is my mate!"
