Prologue
Mrs. Madison was sitting in her office when she heard her boss, Mr. Boro calling her over to his office. She was nervous because she overheard the other workers saying that she might be getting canned. But he didn’t seem upset or pissed off at her. Mr. Boro had her sit down in front of his desk as he got up to close his soundproof glass door.  “Mrs. Madison, We are relocating you to our new facility in Pierce. You will be getting a big raise and a Promotion. We need a manager over there to run things. I see great things out of you even though you lost your husband, you still never missed a day of work and you wouldn’t take your mourning leave I wanted you to take. I love that you are work oriented. They might be able to learn something from you over there. The sales in that town are really far down and they are organized at all.” “Mr. Boro, that’s on the other side of the state. I don’t have the money to travel like that. I haven’t even taken a vacation because of that. Plus, Sir, my daughter, Abigail, she won’t want to leave her friends behind. She is only 16. The church we go to has helped her out a lot since her father’s death. I can’t just take her away from here.” “Pierce is, from what I’ve been told, very religious. I’m sure you will be able to find a decent church to continue to help her. The schools over there are at the top of the state scores. They are all 5 stars. Plus the company is willing to pay for all of the expenses for your move. We are even giving you a big bonus to get a house.” “Alright, I’ll talk to her about it. She might like the change.”  After the talk, she walked out of the office and went to her’s and started to pack up all her stuff. Everyone stared at her thinking she actually did get fired. She wasn’t fazed by them, she walked out with a smile on her face and got to go home early.  As she got home, She noticed that I was already home. She rushed in and saw me in my bathroom cleaning up what looked like blood. She was concerned and that’s when she made her final decision. “Mom, wait! Let me explain. This isn’t what it looks like. I swear!” I shouted. “Abby, what was all that blood? I’ve had enough of this kind of stuff. We are moving because I’ve been offered a promotion but it is taking over another branch of the company.” “But Mom, everything I love is here. All my memories of dad were made here. I want to stay here!” I said with an upset tone.  “No, Abby. Your father wouldn’t want us to cry in his memory but to never forget about him and move on with our lives. We aren’t going to get anywhere sitting here. And now that you are self-harming we have to go and find you some help.” She yelled at me.  “I wasn’t hurting myself. I was getting ready for a school project in biology. Heather loaned me her latex and Halloween makeup. It’s all fake. We are learning how the body heals and we have to do a project on it. So we are going to make the stages of healing on our arms.”  “Well you don’t have to worry about it now. Since we are moving to Pierce.” “Mom, when are we moving?” “Within the week.” “Let me finish my half of the project. I don’t want Heather to fail because of me moving.” “Alright, Sweetie. Just make sure to pack when you can.” My mom looked proud of me.  I didn’t know where this new path would take me. But I was sure I wasn’t going to enjoy it. I hated when Mom was in moods like this. She was too demanding. I didn’t want to move, all my memories of my father were in these walls. It wasn’t fair. What if my mom met someone new who tried to take over as my father. I silently just dealt with what my mom had in store for us. I called Heather to tell her that I was moving but I would finish my half of the project. She cried and also thanked me for not leaving her in the dark on the project. I knew she would miss me a lot. But she can call me anytime, and I told her I'll only be a few hours away in Pierce. Heather seemed happy about that. She had her drivers license, so on the weekend if her parents let her, she could drive to me to hangout. She told me she would definitely make time to come see me. I was scared to move. I had a hard time making the friends I have now. I was more angry with my mom’s job than anything. I wasn’t sure if I could handle all of this change so soon after my father’s passing.  “Dad, I wish you were here.” I whispered to myself. From Downstairs I heard a crashing noise. As I opened my door, I heard a scream. I bolted down the stairs to investigate the chaos. My mom was holding a knife in her hand covered in blood, what laid before her was something that didn’t make sense. On my mom, no bruises or cuts. She was covered in blood and a pool of blood was on the floor.  My mom frantically tried to tell me that there was a body there but it just vanished. I told her that was impossible. She tried to tell me it was a monster. I knew my mom and I definitely needed to move now. It was getting bad. I began to pack that night and I wanted to finish that project for Heather. For the rest of the week, I spent my time telling everyone I was moving and turing in my final assignments, and the teachers gave me parting gifts. I told my few friends I was moving. They wanted to throw me a “Good-bye” party. I told them not to. They agreed not to, but they wanted to see me off. Friday, we moved.
