    Under his feet the floorboards creaked, his steps grew closer until they stopped right behind me. Warmth from his chest spread through my back as his muscular arms wrapped around me. It wasn't an action filled with affection nor tenderness, no. It was panic that sprung him into action. He thought I would kill her. To be honest, I wasn't even sure I wouldn't. The tight embrace he had around me forced my arm to my side but I didn't struggle. In fact, I was glad to have him there, holding me, grounding me.     "That's it," he exhaled, "let her go, Kitty." The calm in his voice shook me free from my vengeful state and with a loud crash, Jodie crumbled to the ground.
