Verity POV
I found myself laying on the hillside looking over the town square. The soft grass acts as a bed for my weak body. My head was already feeling better. I sighed that humans were so awful most of the time. I had too much to drink and they had tried to take advantage immediately; I suppose male alphas weren’t much better. I was mated to an alpha and he lied to me, cheated on me, stole from me and raped me.
“Gods why am I even here? Aren’t I supposed to be given a task or something to finish so I can get home?” I looked up at the stars. The constellations were the same but in different positions then back at home and even ones I couldn’t recognize. The worlds were so similar and yet so different. Being human felt so weak and alone. I missed my wolf. It was nice always having someone there for me 100%.
I stopped Verity from dying in May. Isn't that good enough? What else do I need to do to get home? I felt my eyes tearing up. I just wanted to be back home with Sora. I didn’t care that I was banished, I had my wolf that’s all I needed. “What if I’m stuck here forever?”
“Is that a bad thing?” A soft voice mewed.
I sat up, my head still slightly spinning. A white cat popped out from behind the tree. Its eyes were ice blue and had a black crescent moon mark on its forehead. “Um,” I stared at the cat. A talking animal in my world isn’t too abnormal but in this world humans were the dominant being. The book had only dealt with regular teenage rich kid drama, it didn’t world build much outside of that.
“Why do you want to go back there?” The voice came from the cat. It gracefully walked around me.
“What are you?” I questioned, I couldn’t see any kind of stats on the cat so I couldn’t decipher any true motives from it.
“Answer mine first,” the cat sat in front of me and began to licked its paw.
“I miss my wolf,” I whispered, this creature whatever it was knew things. Maybe this was the system people often spoke about in isekais. If it could help me get back to Sora that is all that mattered.
“Fair, Sora was one of the kindest souls I had ever met,” the cat looked up to the moon solemnly. “I am Jeriko.”
“You know her?” I looked at it confused. I thought mine and my wolf's soul were one and the same. But if we were two souls in one body it would change so much in my realm.
“Who do you think made the deal for you to come here?” Jeriko purred.
“Why?!” I growled. “She was my only friend! Why would she leave me?”
“She loved you Harmony, selflessly and truly loved you. She wanted nothing but your happiness,” Jeriko peaked up at me. His blue eyes are deceptively charming. “So she made the deal to end her life on the mortal plane she was on and join Azreil in the heavenly realm. All for you to be given a chance at love.”
“Who is Azreil? What are y’all? Is she okay?”
“Someone is coming I must go, don’t worry I have people to look after you,” Jeriko hopped off and into the brushes.
“Wait Jeriko!” I reached out wanting to hold on to the cat to find out more.
“Don’t worry kiddo granddad will always have your back,” his voice whispered softly in my head.
“Granddad?” I chuckled softly looking back up at the sky and my mind quickly wandered back to my beautiful black wolf. “Sora you i***t, why would you make a deal like that.”
I had more questions than answers. My phone began to ring, “yea dad?”
“Where are you?” His voice sounded more concerned than I had heard it all summer.
“On the hill side I’ll be home soon,” I replied calmly.
“Are you with anyone?” He questioned, the tension clear as day.
“No, dad, are you okay?” I started to worry.
“Yeah sweetie I had just gotten some news that a friend moved back into town and they have two sons. Just curious if you’ve met them," he explained cautiously. "They are like family so be nice."
"You act like I'm a terrible child," I laughed softly.
"No, but you've had an interesting fire in you since May," he pushed. I could hear the question that he didn't want to ask.
"Dad I'm fine, I promise," I encouraged him.
