Jennet arrived at her office and was gasping for air like a fish out of the water. She rushed to the restroom and splashed her face at the sink. Then, she looked at her wet face in the mirror. Her complexion was not looking so good.
She exhaled and inhaled a few times. ‘Stay calm…’ She exhaled deeply.
Everything that happened just now seemed like a bad dream.
She shook her head, 'No, no, no! I don't want to have any relationship with anyone within the company. I just want to be all alone with no more trouble. I have suffered a lot and it is time for me to find my happiness.'
She washed her face again before wiping her face with a handkerchief that she kept handy all the time. She was about to walk out when she bumped into Marvina, who happened to walk into the restroom.
"Jennet!" Marvina gasped, her eyes widen in shock. "You scared me!" she said, half yelling. Her back hunched as she breathed heavily with a hand pressing on her chest. The shock was overwhelming.
"I'm sorry!" Jennet apologized and patted her back to comfort her.
After a while, Marvina straightened her back. "I'm okay." She raised a thumb at her before heading for the sink to wash her hands.
Jennet stood beside her, looking at her pale complexion in the mirror. "Are you sure you’re okay? Your face is pale."
"I am okay. Have you had lunch?" Marvina asked, changing the topic. There was a wide smile on her face in the mirror.
“I had an amazing lunch today,” Jennet answered, beaming beautifully. Then, she remembered the unbelievable request from Luca.
She wanted to share the story with Marvina.
However, when she was about to open her mouth, Mira walked into the restroom. Her mood turned gloomy instantly because Mira was one of the fans who adored Luca Tybelg, and it would only spell trouble if she blabbed about the happening during lunch break.
Mira was well-known within the company because of her exquisite beauty. She had long wavy black hair, big chests, sexy lips, a high nose, mesmerizing black eyes and beautifully angled cheeks. Her curvy body made her even gorgeous. She could be a supermodel because she was as beautiful as one, but, she chose to work in the travel agency. Maybe because of her beauty, a lot of people trusted her but, no one knows that she was a two-faced coin. Jennet was probably the only person who could see through her mask because Mira always find fault with her.
Jennet turned towards Marvina and then said, "I think I know why that villa was sold at such a low price. It is haunted by a female ghost." She hoped Mira could be baited into believing in her story. Then, she noticed that Mira took a quick glance at them before she entered one of the toilet stalls.
Mira seemed to be keeping an ear open about the 'haunted villa'. Maybe afterwards, she would spread another rumour about Jennet’s haunted villa.
Marvina, who was oblivious that Mira was eavesdropping, gasped in the mirror, “Oh, that’s spooky.”
Jennet nodded her head. “Yeah, it is spooky indeed. I was uneasy from the first day I moved into that villa. You know, I felt as if someone was watching me. Constantly watching me…”
Marvina glanced at her. Her brows knitted. "But, how did you know it is a female ghost? Have you seen it?"
Jennet coughed softly before explaining, "Well, last night I had a nightmare about her. It was so vivid and I could see her long golden hair. She was much taller than me or probably taller than an average woman and…she had very fair skin." It was still fresh in her mind about the tall figure in her bathroom, and the long hair that was all over her when she was in bed. It was a frightful night indeed. She wished not to see the same dream again.
"A nightmare on the second night of your stay in your new home? A female ghost?" Marvina frowned. "But, was she violent in your dream? Had she tried to hurt you?" She was getting worried.
"She didn’t hurt me,” Jennet replied, and looked at her hand. She still could feel the cold sensation of the pale hand that grabbed it last night. Then, she continued, “I jerked awake when she grabbed my hand because I was trying to flick her hair from me.”
Marvina glanced at her, lost for words. Shortly after that, she turned the tap and washed her hands again. "Well, you know some people say, if the new owner had nightmares after moving into their new home, it means something will happen to them. It is rumoured that such dreams are bad omens that you should watch out for. It also meant one thing; you should be vigilant at all times.”
Jennet shivered. She had no idea Marvina would say something upsetting. She was only trying to distract Mira, who, might probably, eavesdropped their conversation at the moment.
Then, her train of thought started to work as she pieced the events that happened around her. She had just turned Luca down, so it must mean Luca might turn her life upside down or perhaps another juicy and upsetting rumour about her will spread again?
Either way, she can't tell. Everything Marvina said made her unhappy and it distracted her.
"Do you think I can survive the ordeals that may come upon me?" Jennet asked out of the blue. She wanted another consolation answer that could ease her heart.
Would she be able to survive all the ordeals if they knew Luca asked her out?
Marvina chuckled, and said, "Well, it is just a mere dream. Don't read too much into it. If you are scared of that female ghost, then I suggest for you to call for someone to help you chase the ghost out of your house.” It was a casual reply. Shortly after that she added, hoping to ease her friend's worry, "Well, it is just a nightmare. Nothing to worry about. If you don't believe in superstition then don't believe in it. Live your life normally. Unless, you believe in superstitious things then, I guess you will get used to it in no time."
Jennet eyed her and smiled, hiding her doubt. "Thanks. As you said, it is just a nightmare. I will not indulge myself in it. Furthermore, I’ve prepared myself for the worst."
Marvina glanced at her, taken by surprise of her positivity. “That’s good to hear. But, do you want to move in with me?" She wiped her wet hands with tissues.
Jennet shook her head while smiling. "Thanks for the offer but I’m doing fine at the moment. I bought that villa so, even if it is haunted, I will brave it all. Plus, I have no time to move to a new house for now. Moving house is exhausting." She exhaled a deep breath after that.
Marvina tossed the tissues into the dustbin and clapped her hands. "Then, if you ever need a place to crash, I am more than happy to let you stay at my place. You know so well that my room is huge compared to your previous room when you still lived in the apartment.” She raised an eyebrow, trying to gain some credit for her apartment.
Jennet smiled. "I will ring if I needed a place to crash in," she told her.
Then, the two ladies left the restroom.
Shortly after that, the sound of flushing echoed in the restroom. Then, Mira stepped out, looking as proud as before. She went to the sink and washed her hands.
After a while, she straightened her body and chuckled to herself. 'So, she bought that villa and it was haunted? Good… Serves her right for seducing my Luca. I bet she will live miserably there.'
Mira was frustrated because Luca paid less attention to her, who worked hard to make him notice her existence, and that was ever since Jennet started to work in the company. Mira got mad at Jennet because, Luca even wanted everyone to be nice to her, who came out of nowhere on one unsuspecting day.
Mira wiped her hands dry before tossing the wet tissues into the dustbin. Then, she walked out elegantly.
