Chapter 12

2046 Words
For once in her life, Jennet had a peaceful working day because Mira was not around to humiliate her. Mira’s minions were also busy with their matters. This gave her the blissful time she had been looking for and she even wrote down in her diary about the peaceful day. After work in the evening, Jennet dropped Marvina at the apartment. Then, she drove home. Luckily, the road was not congested and she reached home around seven o’clock in the evening. After stepping out of the car, she hurried to the door. Before unlocking the door, she looked around keenly. For some unknown reason, she felt restless, and she felt as if someone had followed her from work. But, there was no one around except for the silence that crept around. Inhaling and exhaling deeply, Jennet entered the villa and immediately locked the door; double lock, at least. Ever since she lived alone, and ever since she sensed that something was off about her new home, she made it a priority to lock all doors and windows before going out or when she went to sleep. She didn’t want to have an unannounced visit! As Jennet changed her footwear into house slippers, she turned the lights on. In less than five seconds, the entire villa was illuminated by warm white lights. The lights permeated through every glass wall, and shone throughout the entire area. Jennet smiled widely, feeling contained. Somehow the bright light cheered her mood. ‘Nothing scary will appear,’ she thought and inhaled another deep breath, relieved. Then, she made her way up the stairs. Unfortunately, Jennet was unaware of the strangeness that broiled in the air as tiny bullets of bubbles, flew up from the floor and it came from every direction. As the bubbles accumulated, noiselessly, it formed a translucent figure of a person. The tall and translucent figure stood behind her, about a few inches away from her body, and it was clutching on the hem of her blazer, following her into the bedroom. Jennet halted at the door when a chilling feeling crept from behind her. Her brows knitted and she glanced over her shoulder. But, there was nothing there… Gulping inwardly, Jennet clenched her fist. The hair on her back stood up steadily and her heart beat only fasten. Then, she dashed into the room and shut behind her. Turning around, she turned the door knob again, and peered through the slit of the door, and observed the empty hallway. She waited… But, nothing happened. No one popped out of nowhere as she had hoped for. Then, Jennet inhaled deeply and closed the door. ‘I must be imagining things. It was just the wind,’ she murmured alone, hoping to ease the fear that had started to cloud her sanity. She went to the dressing table and tossed her handbag there. Shortly after that, she started to undress. As the oblivious woman undressed herself, a pair of jade-blue eyes was keeping an eye on her body, watching her eagerly. Jennet halted again when she was about to take off her shirt. She looked around, feeling wary in a sudden. She went back to the door and double locked it. Then, she went back to undressing. But, it wasn’t long when she stopped taking off her pants. She inhaled a deep breath and looked around the room. Her instinct told her that she wasn’t alone. Then, she dressed back again. Shortly after that, she went to the balcony, and looked out at the darkened evening. The lawn was brightly lit by spotlights and there was nothing that looked unusual around her residence. Everything was quiet and still… Meanwhile, the jade-blue eyed person was gritting his anger for he was itching to feast his eyes on her body. ‘Take your clothes off! Let me feast my eyes on your exquisitely sculptured body!’ he grumbled inwardly. Suddenly, a catchy ringtone broke the silence in the room. Jennet gasped in shock by the sound. She took a while to calm down from all the nervousness and the tension before she ran inside to answer the call. A smile lit up her pale face when she answered the call, joyously. “Hello, what is up? I didn’t expect to receive a call from you at this hour.” Her voice softened. She stood by the sliding door, and pulled the curtain open a bit, enough for her to have a peek outside. Her invisible companion, on the other hand, was fuming beside her. He gritted his teeth as he craned his neck towards the screen of her phone. There were two words he saw; Luca Tybelg! His mood worsened instantly, and he glared at the woman, who smiled from ear to ear as she continued talking with the person on the phone. She giggled like a teenager in love and it seemed unbefitting of her identity! The jealous man got even more jealous when her laughter made him feel uncomfortable. He can’t stand the feeling that stabbed him in the heart when he had to watch her speak with another man while in his presence. The cross man went after her, trying to snatch the phone, but his hands went through her body as if he was a hologram. He tried to touch her, but the same thing happened. His hands just went through her body and he wasn’t able to touch her. ‘Grr, I hate this formless body!’ he groaned in frustration. He paced back and forth while anxiously bit his fingernails. Then, an idea struck him. His eyes lit up. He sucked in and the screamed, “Little Veen!” Due to his unstable form, humans cannot see him nor hear him. They were in a different dimension but, he could see and hear the humans converse with one another. That was the perk that only his kind could enjoy. Shortly after that Little Veen appeared. The poker-faced boy motioned his dark-blue eyes towards his master that was fuming before him. “Yes, master?” “Disrupt their conversation right now! Do whatever is possible to make sure no one could call my wife at this hour!” Little Veen said nothing after he got the command. He only nodded his little head and then disappeared to execute the command that was given to him. Meanwhile, the blond approached Jennet and stood by her side while glaring at her. His eyes grew wider when his annoyance only multiplied the longer she talked on the phone. ‘For how long are you going to continue chit-chatting with that homewrecker?!’ he fumed alone. Oh boy, he was as angry as a centaur! On the other hand, Jennet smiled widely, feeling happy that she was on good term with her newly-made friend. “I am safe here. Everything is just fine. There is no need for me to move out. Yes, I am fine,” she said to the caller. However, before she could continue to talk, the call was suddenly disconnected. Confused, she took a long look at her phone screen; hoping to see a single bar, that had disappeared, to appear again. But, there was none as the reception seemed to have disappear forever. “Hmm, that is weird,” she soliloquised, and tapped on the screen as if doing so could revive the reception. “The reception was excellent earlier,” she said, still unwilling to give up. She raised the phone higher and stayed rooted there for a few minutes but the tiny bar did not appear. “Hmm, houses built by the hills should have gotten stronger phone reception, right?” she surmised alone. Then, she moved around again, changing location. But, the result was still the same. Meanwhile, the culprit of the disappearance of the reception was smiling as he followed her around. His little assistant did an excellent job once again! Jennet exhaled a deep sigh as she put the phone on the table. “I hope Luca understands what I just said,” she mumbled alone. Then, she pulled the curtain and went to the dressing table, looking at her face in the mirror. “Well, I think it is better to have dinner before taking a bath,” she spoke. Then, she rolled her eyes, to the left and then to the right, searching for something unseen. After a while, she said to herself, “I feel uneasy to take a bath at this moment.” Then, she left the bedroom. After she left the room, the blond shrieked in madness. “No!!” He gritted his teeth, suppressing his tears from wetting his eyes. ‘Why would she want to have dinner first? She should take a bath first!’ he ranted inwardly. “Master,” Little Veen called out to him when he appeared. “Please do not spill your tears. You have to make her say your name to break the barrier between you and her,” he explained. His master glared at him with his watery eyes. But, the boy was not surprised at all. Then, he asked, “By the way, do you want a lollipop?” A big, round and colourful lollipop appeared in his tiny hand, and he held it out towards his master. His master scoffed and looked away. “Why should I be offered such a thing? I don’t know what to do with it,” he replied sourly. The poker-faced boy inhaled deeply before explaining, “When humans are sad, they eat something sweet to cheer up. You should give it a try. It is delicious too.” He took a step closer without lowering his hand that held the lollipop. “I am not even a human!” His master roared to his face, sending his nicely curled hair flying. The little boy, unmoved, said calmly, “Then, it is the more reason for you to try it. We can find out if it has the same effects on non-human.” There was amusement in his voice although it wasn’t shown on his poker-face. The blond eyed the boy, seemingly interested. “W-where did you get this?” he asked and his voice toned down. “An innocent soul offered it to me as a gratitude,” Little Veen answered. The lollipop was gifted to him by a little girl when he disguised himself as a toddler of a none-exist mother, who went on a park debut with her child. It was part of his cover while watching over his master’s wife. The blond took the lollipop and observed it carefully as if he was looking at a newly unearthed artifact. His eyes glowed in awe. “How do I savour this round and sweet-smelling thing?” he asked as he took a seat on the floor. “Humans savour it by l*****g it continuously,” Little Veen replied. “l*****g it continuously?” the blond asked with a frown as if the thing he held was something dirty. He cannot imagine a being of his calibre, seen l*****g a lollipop, one of human’s stuff, being made into a laughing stock by those annoying officials back in his realm. “Yes, lick it as if your life depends on it,” the little boy replied seriously and then he paused, “…that’s how I see those young humans savour it,” he added. “I do not think I like it,” his master answered. He handed the lollipop back to the little boy. “Here, you take it since it was given to you and savour it just like how those young humans savour it. Also, tell me the result if you have a slight change in your mood.” He flashed a smile at him. Little Veen took the lollipop and he disappeared with it. Shortly after the disappearance of the little boy, the blond stood up and muttered, "I much prefer to 'eat' my wife and, I want her to free me tonight, no matter what happens!" He stepped out of the bedroom and went to the kitchen with a burning passion to be freed from the shackles of confinement that had kept him trapped for a very long time. …
