Chapter 14

Kring!! Jennet jerked awake by the sound of the alarm clock. She stared at the ceiling mindlessly. After a while, she yawned. Then, from under the cover, she reached out for the clock and hit the snooze. After the sound died down, she laid still for a few minutes while scratching her head, thinking about something else. “I was dreaming last night,” she reminded herself like a mindless woman. Then, she yawned again like a lazy cat that was forcefully woken up in the morning. As she propelled her body into a seating position, she glanced at the bathroom. Flashes of memories from the event in the bathroom appeared in her head. She looked at herself; she was in her favourite pyjamas. She chuckled, relieving herself of the worry. “I was worried for nothing. Everything was a dream, a wild dream of a single woman who lives alone,” she said to herself. Instead of feeling sad, she smiled widely. She jumped off the bed, slid the glass door to the side and went to the balcony. There, she inhaled a deep breath. After a while, she chuckled alone. Once again, she recalled the frivolous dream of last night. The long-haired blond with the beautiful appearance lingered on her mind. “What am I thinking? Someone like that cannot exist in this world.” She shook her head. She smiled all alone at the balcony while thinking of him. She felt a weird kind of relief after knowing the ghost she saw in her dream wasn’t a female. She thought it was funny but at the same time, it was impossible to forget such a person, who possessed an appearance that was like no others. "Hue Hedo... Hue Hedo..." She repeated the name while smiling. She chuckled a couple of times as she pictured how funny it would be if they meet each other in real life. It would be awkward if they were to meet in the bathroom again. She shook her head, dismissing the wild imagination. “Tch, it is just a dream. My mind is playing tricks on me because my pitiful life tires me out.” She inhaled a few deep breaths, “Yeah, let's not think about it anymore otherwise I will be late for work.” She rushed back into her room to get a nice and sobering bath. As she unbuttoned her shirt, she gasped in fright when she found red marks on her neck, collarbone, chest, and stomach. It looked like mosquito bites but it was not itchy. It also looked like bruises but it doesn’t hurt. "My God, what is happening to me?" She gasped in the mirror as she took off her trousers and examined her entire body. Her eyes widened in disbelief when she saw the same thing on her back and her thighs. Her body trembled badly. ‘What is happening? Chickenpox or food allergies?’ She looked closely at the red marks. They were deep red marks. "It is impossible for me to contract illness such as chickenpox at this age. It must be because of something else,” she mumbled alone. She hurriedly took a shower and washed her body carefully. After refreshing herself, she wore a dark blue long-sleeved turtleneck shirt and black slack trousers. She left the villa after having a light breakfast and after hanging her laundry. … Jennet went to the company and met Marvina that was already in the office, doing her work. "Hi, Marvina!" she greeted with a smile. "You are early today." Then, she glanced at Marvina’s messy desk. Marvina smiled back at her. "I have to complete the hotel reservations for my clients. How about you? Oh, not bad." She glanced towards Jennet's desk that was filled with stacks of papers. She smiled apologetically at her. “It’s as you can see…” Jennet pulled the chair and sat. “Mira hands her works to me. I have to complete the proposals in two days.” She placed her handbag on the desk. "What is that? A medical report?" Marvina asked when she saw a white medical report popped out from her handbag. Jennet pushed the medical report deeper into her bag, hiding it. It would be troublesome if those pesky women saw her medical diagnosis. They will make fun of her and even worse may spread unsolicited rumours about her. “Yeah, it is,” Jennet replied. “Are you ill?” her friend asked, concerned. “I am not so sure. But, I want to find out about that,” Jennet said. “If I may ask, what happened?” Marvina looked at her. “I got red spots all over my body. I am not sure if it is chickenpox. Maybe it was an allergy caused by the instant noodle. But, I have been eating instant noodles for as long as I can remember,” Jennet replied feeling conflicted. "Hmm, you better visit the doctor as soon as possible. Getting one at an adult age is risky, I mean for the chickenpox,” said Marvina. Shortly after that, she added, "Why not go now? The sooner you go the better, right?” Jennet shook her head slowly, "I will go after work. At the moment, I can manage plus I do not want anyone to know about my condition if I were to ask for a leave during working hours.” She turned on the computer. “I want to complete these tasks before I go. Who knows, if I get sick leave, Mira won’t find fault with me because I have completed the tasks,” she added. "Hmm…Make sure not to overwork yourself," Marvina said softly as she shifted her eyes to the computer screen right in front of her. “I won’t,” Jennet promised and she spent her time completing the paperwork. In the afternoon, Luca called and asked her out again but she declined him kindly. "I am sorry I cannot join you. I promised with my friend to have lunch together,” she said in a low voice while eyeing Marvina, who was about to unpack her lunch box. The office was empty but she was still wary in case someone aside from Marvina eavesdropped on her conversation. "Hmm, are you, perhaps still feeling awkward after everything that happened yesterday?" Luca asked softly at the end of the line. "Part of it yes, but I’m pretty busy after my short leave,” she said, explaining her situation. She got three days of leave to move houses and as soon as she returned, Mira gave her loads of paperwork. It seemed Mira was unhappy about her; as always! "Okay. I won't disturb you then. But, I hope next time you won't give me any more excuses," said Luca. His tone was still soft although he sounded a bit demanding. "Umm, I can’t possibly promise you anything because I am up to my eyes at work at the moment. I’ll probably join you in another day when I’m free,” Jennet answered, smiling sheepishly. "Probably?" "Yes, it’s all probability for now,” Jennet replied. “Well, I need to hang up soon. I am sorry for not being able to join you today," she apologized. She was desperate to end the conversation as she wished to lessen the time spent on him. "Okay. Do not worry. I will hang up now then," Luca said with a chuckle and he ended the call after hearing a 'Thank You' from the other end. Luca looked out of the window and exhaled deeply. He chuckled by himself. She was avoiding him. But, he was alright with that because he knew, he had a lot of time to capture her heart. He was happy to be her first male friend because soon, he would be the first man in her life, and when that happens, he would not let her go from his life. Luca stood up from his chair and rearranged his coat. "Well, I will not be giving up on you since I know how precious you are to me now," he said to himself, "…this is just the start of it." "Felix, let's go," he said to his assistant that stood at the door this whole time. The two of them left the office together. …
