We left the room and walked across the wide entrance hall to the front doors. Iku stood to one side with her empty platter against her chest. Her pleading eyes met mine. I turned away, but not soon enough to miss her disappointment. It mirrored my own.
We didn’t say a word until we were well on our way down the road. Bee gave a nod to Midge who took flight. He scoured the woods around us for a good five minutes before he returned to her shoulder. The little bird shook his head.

Sage looked to our newest companion who walked a few steps ahead of us. “Is the lord always so blunt with his guests?”
